EA stock rebounds after publisher confirms no DICE projects have been delayed

Shares bounce back after publisher confirms work to stabilize Battlefield 4 is not impacting release schedule for any future DICE titles.

Wall Street is responding positively to the news that no EA DICE projects have been delayed, as shares of Electronic Arts have bounced back today, up more than 5.5 percent at press time. Shares are currently trading at $22.17, up from a low yesterday of $20.48 and nearly level with Wednesday's closing price of $22.34.

Yesterday, an EA representative confirmed that "the work being done to stabilize Battlefield 4 does not impact our release schedule for future titles."

EA shares tumbled Thursday, diving more than 6.5 percent after a statement suggested that all future DICE projects were on hold until EA could remedy the Battlefield 4 server issues. This would have included Battlefield 4 expansions and the new Mirror's Edge and Star Wars: Battlefront games.

Battlefield 4 server issues continue to persist. Just today, DICE released a new patch for the Xbox 360 version of the game that pledges to increase general game stability. Additional patches are in the works.

Gamespot covers "Stock  Rebounding" for EA but not tanking? Gamespot is biased due to their vested interest in advertising dollars. I would like to read fair reporting from a game website that isn't in EA's back pocket. Gamespot didnt  mention error CE-34878-0 despite thousands of gamers...NOpe...

Keep the pressure on people.  Stop "buying" anything" with an EA label.

Good. SW: Battlefront is your number one priority :)

So they were just blowing smoke up everyone's ass with their original statement.  Instead of their customers being #1 priority, it's the shareholders... what else is new?

#DICE needs to leave #EA. EA are destroying them. DICE should make a REAL True #battlefield game by themselves, independently. Ok it wont be called Battlefield but god dammit they should go #Indie...... Leave EA.

So they will continue to release them on time regardless of where they may be in the development cycle, such as Alpha Builds like BF3 and 4 were released in.

That means they're going to rush the game! NOOOOO

Its sad to see what DICE has become. I know EA is pulling the strings and we all know how crappy they are. Still DICE does not get a free pass because of that. I have been playing BF since the first game and have greatly enjoined the series. However I did not like BF3 because to me it felt buggy and not completely finished. Still though that game was generally well received and liked by a majority of people so I think DICE/EA did not really learn anything from that experience. However BF4 seems to be in even worse shape and I think more people this time around are realizing that the BF series is not what it once was or what it could be. Maybe DICE/EA will learn something this time around. I am glad I decided to pass on BF4. Maybe if it gets way better in the future I might pick it up. Until then I will not hold my breath. I can only hope DICE doesn't ruin Battlefront...

This is why I no longer buy any DICE games.

Once people get tired of the bugs year in and year out. They will stop buying to.

You only did a short term stock save EA... Long term you are screwed!

this is pretty hilarious... a statement to placate complainers actually ended up signifcantly hurting their stock price.... I KNOW they didnt see that coming when releasing that statement.... hilarious

No other DICE projects are going to be delayed because instead of delaying them because they had to pull staff off of other projects so they can do all the final polishing and bug fixes that should have been done before the games release and would have been done if Electronic fArts actually cared about the quality of their games and wasn't just trying to make a quick buck by rushing the game out of the door during the start of a new console cycle so then they are just going to rush to get those other projects out on time which means those other games will be half -assed and unpolished and full of bugs which will continue to repeat as time goes on.

It's funny how EF can make a statement like "The work being done to stabilize Battlefield 4 does not impact our release schedule for future titles." and those stupid and completely ignorant stockholders believe it and everything just goes back to normal. If they actually played their games then they would know what we know which is that EF is crap and everything they make is crap and one day they will go the way of Atari and Nintendope. EF is not too big to fail and pretty soon people are going to stop buying their crap games.

Didnt this get an 8 on this very website?  Seems inflated now that all these issues have surfaced...or paid for.

Of course, they wont delay anything.  They put anything out, finished or not.

You know there's the "EA Sports, it's in the game" line?

How about "EA DICE, it's in the DLC" for BF?

gilldominic
gilldominic

So the developers were honest and admitted that they have had to invest a lot of time and effort into sorting out the game (which was probably released too early to compete with CoD and be ready for next-gen).

Then the business boys at EA saw the share prices and got the whip out. I feel sorry for DICE now, they'll be likely working in permanent crunch mode now trying to get all these DLC updates done to time now because that is clearly more important than the actual quality or stability of the game (not the first EA title to be released practically unfinished is it!?).

It is also pretty obvious that fixes and patches being released quickly will be sacrificed so that the DLC can be done on time still.

Further to that the DLC will likely not have time to be put through enough testing and optimisation, so will probably bring MORE issues requiring fixes and patches, making the whole thing more of a struggle, and the end product more of a mess.

If EA just let DICE do their jobs then I bet BF would have a fraction of the issues and would be getting fixed much quicker. It might mean the title got released a month later and the same regarding the DLC, but I wouldn't have minded to be honest. I barely played for the first 2 weeks of release as it was so unstable anyway. Most people playing the game will still likely suffer a game breaking bug at some point in a play session....

cowbellkid

Well of course it won't affect release dates. They've proven time and time again they release games whether they're finished or not.

My PC version of BF4 still doesn't work. FU EA.

Razor10000
Razor10000

this is why i don´t buy EA games anymore, they care more about money and shareholders than respect their customers, it doesn´t matter if the games is rushed, unfinished and broken. there games are never completely fixed, they patch it until is playable and them they move on. EA should have died along time ago, they just keep buying and destroying good franchises.

this is what EA does:

cool trailers(people hyped) -> they release broken game or worse and diferent sequel -> people buy -> people get mad -> EA does damage control(lies) -> they patch the game until is playable(not completely fixed) -> REPEAT

Chr0noid

EA is basically herpes.  They just keep coming back.

Rush game to meet deadline. Release broken game to customers. Allocate resources from other projects and delay the start of the next to fix the game. Resources returned back to projects already off scheduled. Rush game to meet deadline. Release broken game. Allocate resources from other projects and delay the start of the next to fix game. Resources returned back to projects behind schedule.

So they also just admitted that their whole "We've halted development until BF4 is fixed" was just a PR thing to make people get off their case.

@TERMINATOR-SSD DICE will never be able to leave EA. EA owns them. thats what happens when you sign a deal with the Devil

Perfect example of how EA does things.

"We've come to some problems, but it's alright, we'll just tell our developers to work faster."

Moegitto
Moegitto

@Whiskey3romeo DICE is far from incompetent, they are only a developer and have to do whatever EA tells them to do. Gamespot has an article with them saying they wanted to delay the game till 2014, meaning EA just wanted to try and steal sales from Activision before they released COD: Ghosts. But they probably ended up just making people run to COD instead...

waffleiron88

DICE is capable of good work but they can only do so much when EA is cracking the whip on them to push out content.

@waffleiron88 They changed the name to "GPU Temperature Rising" though.

Something to do with poor optimisation... ;)

@ZeroFallout1 Most of my play sessions end when my game freezes up and crashes out. At that point I look at the time and decide, "that's probably been long enough playing anyway I guess...."

Not exactly what you expect from a game that is so MP-centric, but at least it's a silver lining of sorts, helps stop me losing hours and hours without noticing!

ncogneegro
ncogneegro

This is harsh.  EA is focusing on fixing a broken game, the MINUTE they said that the value of their company went down, so they then had to tel everyone that this will not impact other titles.  Now the stock traders are happy because this won't effect their qauarterly earnings projections.  THis shit isn't EA"s fault.  It's this broken system that determines the value of a company.

How does wanting to ensure your product works as advertise devalue your company?

23Jarek23
23Jarek23

@HapiJoel Pretty much, they've never even hinted at any dates for DLC. You'd have to be an idiot to not realize the lie though considering they just released a statement saying they weren't working on any DLC until the game was fixed, suddenly...No dates and schedules have been impacted!

nl_skipper
nl_skipper

@gufberg  No no, their halting development, but they wont delay the release of the games, just release those in an un-finished state as well,  duh!

Moegitto
Moegitto

@Sl4cka Close but more like: "We've come to some problems, but it's alright. We'll just fire everyone that works with that developer and stop making games in that series while holding onto the IP license so no one else can attempt to make the game again."

Whiskey3romeo
Whiskey3romeo

@Moegitto @Whiskey3romeo I've seen not one shred of evidence of Dice being competent.  They've released a broken and bug ridden game and have not fixed one single thing, including the stuff they've claimed they've fixed in their patch notes.
