EA returns for another year of NCAA Football

Cover athlete for collegiate pigskin game being announced March 2; platforms, details, release date still unknown.

While LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell and USC wideout Dwayne Jarrett have decided to forgo finishing college for the glitz and glamour of the NFL, Electronic Arts is sticking around campus like a 14th-year senior.

In a move that doesn't surprise anyone, EA is bringing its top-selling franchise back for another season of NCAA Football. The NCAA Football series is routinely one of EA's top sellers each year (like its cousin Madden NFL) and thrives during the traditionally slow summer period for the game industry.

EA has not yet announced any platforms, release date, or details on the game. According to the game's Web site, the cover athlete will be announced on March 2. Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith of Ohio State and Brady Quinn of Notre Dame are the front-runners for the honors.

EA told GameSpot that more details will be announced in early March.

oh no this is only going to add fuel to the madden 08 rumor. Please don't let it be true...

I'm going to buy this game, just like every year, and play it a ton, just like every year. EA Sports can put out basically the same game year after year because of people like me (and there's a ton out there)

And this is news? Yeah, I guess EA has to release NCAA 2008. They aren't going to make money off of their license unless they release games.

I would guess, that EA will opt for Troy Smith. This would guarantee a few more sales from such a large campus as Ohio State. But I don't know maybe Brady Quinn and ND has more fans across the country?

Hmm I just wonder. When will EA stop making sports games? Some people may say, "it won't stop until the company is closed."

Yep, gonna suck. Just like every other EA franchise they've run into the ground...

Oh my god! NCAA! Wait, didn't that come out last year too? and the year before aswell... It's a nice game, but why all the commotion?

This is my favorite EA Sports title. I hope the new one will be good.

This is a waste of time and a crappy heading for a title. We know NCAA 2008 is coming out, my dog knew that and I don't even have a dog. If they're going to report on this franchise then it should be along the lines of new features and cover athletes. But not "EA Returns for Another Year of NCAA Football." Geez, if Gamespot is hiring writers/editors like these then I don't even want to know who's been posting the reviews lately.

Ok, I am not surprised. It comes out every year. It is expected like leaves on trees in Spring.

I love the NCAA and Madden series of games, but they are starting to look like the same thing every year...there needs to be some outside competition!!!!!!!

I root for neither the gators or the buckeyes. However, I do know that every time that some OSU fan says that the gators were not better, another moron is exposed. There is a way we decide if a team is better than another...they play against each other. What? They did play each other? OH yeah, Florida won...that is an answer enough. Your poor comebacks make you look like fools i.e. "First off if any team had sat on there ass for 2 months then had to play a red hot team that had played 3 weeks earlier they probaly would have gotten laid out also. " How about the fact that 2 months of REST is an advantage. You did not talk about that.

princepointe u dont no any thing. the sec is the best conference and ohio state was so overated and so is troy smith. big ten sucks because michigan got beat and ohio state got an ass kicking. but louisville would beat the wolverines bucks and the gator-ade. calvin johnson isnt gettin the respect he deserves and has no body fat ( i have nfl network on comcast digital cable0

stoutlad

Ian Johnson #41all the way. BSU, you know, that team it would be an "embarrassment to lose to", beat OU fair and square. It's time the team gets some respect, because they are very clearly worthy of it.

hopefully this year they will give us: a complete set of stadiums a complete create-a-player system put back in create-a-school give us complete 60 year dynasty stats fix the animations put back in touchdown celebrations get rid of the microscopic replay add more replays actually use the ESPN license bring back magazine covers etc... -sigh- we'll see what happens

Hey urbandonovan. You gator fans really amaze me when you prance around talking about that "AssKicking" you gave the bucks. First off if any team had sat on there ass for 2 months then had to play a red hot team that had played 3 weeks earlier they probaly would have gotten laid out also. Then our number 1 receiver gets hurt on a damn kickoff TD. Thats bad luck. Not a worse team. We'll see how long you bums are around stroking your gators or whatever you freaks do down there. You see what we did to Texas after that fluke last year. Your next. Thats if by some miracle you losers can make it back to the big time. Excuse me. You may get lucky with that weak ass conference system you in. Whats the east have like 2 other top25 teams. At the very bottom of the 25 at that. LOL

To those that hate EA because of the exclusivity deal, what did you expect to have happen when the NFL is shopping around for someone to buy their license? If the NFL wants to sell the rights to make a football game to only one company, I'll be damned if EA is going to pass up that opportunity! They did what they had to do to stay competitive in this industry. You cannot hate them for that. I don't hate them for taking the rights, I hate them for making horrible games.

Win or lose that game, you are still leaps and bounds behind Ohio State as a historic football program.... Just count the national championships that Florida has.... two? Go look at history. Take your victory and run, you were lucky to even play that game.

Yo, Dynamix. You know what I find funny? I find it funny how arrogant and pompous most OSU fans are. You guys acted like just because YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO WIN the National Championship, you were the greatest university and fans around (I'll never get tired of seeing that little OSU kid weeping in the stands after THE University of Florida scored one of their numerous touchdowns). And now you get all pissy because a guy wants to celebrate his team's accomplishments? Sorry the refs couldn't give you this game like they did against Miami. You have to at least keep the score close if you want the refs to be a factor. Couldn't even do that. So why don't you just stop the Gator-hating, realize that you got beat (well, I think obliterated is a better term) and shut your mouth until you ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING on an athletic field or court or whatever to regain any bragging rights you might have had at one time or another. IF YOU AIN'T A GATOR, YOU MUST BE GATOR BAIT. OHIO STATE? GATOR BAIT!!!

I guess the NCAA and Arena football leagues just happened to be shopping their licenses around too, huh? EA also made an attempt to get the exclusive deal with the NBA but David Stern shot that down in a hurry. To be fair the NFL isn't free from guilt but neither is EA as BadBoy10605 seems to believe.

EA needs a new design team and risk both franchises (madden and this ) with a whole new kind of gameplay and improved graphics. madden and ncaa have both been terrible thus far in the next gen era and if the design team didn't make any drastic changes from last year, it's time to fire them all and bring in some new people.

All I have to say is that EA better put two player co-op in both the PS3 or Xbox 360 version or I won't buy it.

This will be a rehash of the older game, just like Madden 07. Whilst they are both good games they are not very polished and suffer greatly from the fact that they are for the most part yearly clones of the predecessor. At least Sports Interactive (makers of Football Manager another yearly released sports game) actually make innovative strides and massive improvements every year that make the game fully worthwhile. The entire Madden interface feels lazy and uninspired after so many years.

It's amazing how little football Gator fans know. They act like just because they won the National Championship, they are the greatest university, and fans around. That is not even close to true. They are some of the most spineless fans around. It's funny how they seem to forget about Chris Leak being a dud, and how Tebow should be the quarterback. It is almost funny that they only have two championships in their entire existence. Troy Smith is the much better quarterback, and it isn't even close. Leak can only excel in one type of offense, and he will be terrible in the NFl. I will be surprised if he is even drafted higher than the 5th round. It's funny that it took an Ohio native to bring a National Championship to Florida. You can thank us for Urban at any time.

thats true urbandonovan but all quaterbacks have their bad games. You cant let that one game overlap the rest of the brillant games Smith had. Hence he got the Heisman. They didnt give it to him for no reason. Overall Smith would bend Leak over.
