EA manager calls Black Ops II 'tired'

Global product manager Kevin O'Leary belittles Activision's just-announced Call of Duty game, suggesting yearly release cycle not ideal.

by

Activision formally took the wraps off Call of Duty: Black Ops II last night, giving fans a first glimpse at this year's new series entry. Not everyone is excited about the game, as Electronic Arts global product manager Kevin O'Leary took to Twitter today to belittle the title.

O'Leary probably didn't rush out to preorder Black Ops II today.

"Poor [Black Ops II], you look tired, you should take a year off and rest," he wrote.

O'Leary did not provide a rationale as to why he finds the game to appear in need of rest, and as of press time, he had not dispatched a follow-up tweet.

EA will ship a new shooter three weeks ahead of Black Ops II this October in the form of the multiplatform Medal of Honor: Warfighter. That game is a sequel to 2010's Medal of Honor reboot, which received a warm critical reception and shipped more than 5 million copies.

Well of course he does! He works for EA! Would you expect him to say "Black Ops II looks excellent!" whilst someone at Activision comments how much they love Battlefield 3?

Wait, wait, wait. Someone at EA saying CoD,  yearly released series needs time off to rest? What about all the FIFA's and Maddens? If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is.

Firstly EA release just as many FPS updates as Activision, in fact I saw a timeline recently with release dates and EA have released more MoH/BF games than there have been COD games. I'm not saying yearly updates are a good thing but they are both just as bad.

Secondly, as pointed out by others, they are different games that play very differently and there is space for both games to exist.

I agree, COD just doesn't need to be released every year. I say this and I don't even play online.

my guess is that O'leary did rush out and pre order black ops 2, then went home climbed into his closet with a pack of cupcakes, turned out the light and wept as he ate them lol!!! at sixty frames of awesome and some new toys and guns and story that doesn't stink or break er bf3 campaign erp!!! he may hate himself for it, but he'll buy it!!! super duper incredible evil laugh!!!!!! p.s. i really no REALLY  love bf3 multi player it is simply amazing! both games rock and the silly fight between millionaire devs is just that silly!!! and more than a bit contrived, like Paris Hilton trying to stay relevant in the fashion industry. silly your a Hilton you are so rich you don't need to be relevant you could just buy the word....

yeah, yeah. I hate COD. I hate the idea of a BO2. That said, this  Kevin O'Leary's post on twitter seems more like an EA darkling atacking the competition.

When you release a sequel every year, it's very hard to make something new within that limited time. That may be true from the point of view of a developer but as long as you give the player the same thing in a different package, that doesn't matter much.

I agree that yearly releases are for from ideal, but EA is no better than Activision in this respect.

COD kills any and every shooter from EA so maybe he should concentrate on making a better game.

As a PC user(still happily playing Black Ops) I’ll be cautious after getting burnt with MW3.  Am I the only PC user who thought those tiny MW3 maps, with their tight corners, were specifically catered/designed for console users in mind? The fixed FOV was blatantly for console users! Here’s hoping Treyarch keep the PC crowd sweet.

Thats a bit rich, coming from EA. I wonder who'll win a ring-fight between EA and Activision when it comes to milking franchises.

Oh EA is so mad that Blops isn't an MMS any more XD. BLOPS will destroy Warfighter now just due to this XD.

lol EA is just as bad with many of its games, i find it funny how EA and Activision try to score cheap points against each other with comments like these.

Though i do think cod needs more space between releases and a new engine urgently.

YEAH! Activision pumps out CoD every year! EA is so right! They switch between Medal of Honor and BF using Frostbite on both and pretty much the same thing! So much different than Activision! *sarcasm*

So you can't thumb down comments any more? Does that mean I can say I like Call of Duty without the comment getting hidden away for having too many thumbs downs for having the wrong opinion now?

REALLY? this garbage again? How is ea doing with their madden milking and  sims uber milking? He is the ea manager isnt he? Interesting fact, ea started this "one medal of honor every year" sadly they couldnt keep up so they stopped. Activision is pwning them in their own idea with insanelly high sales numbers and their are pissed off their success. Also look at your new cod rip off called medal of honor warfighter, look at the brand new and diffirent black ops 2. What is tiring here? You who keep on insisting to copy cod or black ops 2 that goes future warfare with nonlinear gameplay and diffirent turnouts in the campaign?

Stop making this news! EA and Activision are like idiot parents fighting over who has the more talented children! EA are just telling Activision off now because Kotick's churning them out every year... his breasts must be HUGE.

Don't know how EA has the nerve to call others when they are the worlds worst, I think they got what they deserved when voted Americas worst company!

Sledgehammer / Treyarch / Infinity Ward / Raven: - Call of Duty 2 (2005) - Call of Duty 3 (2006) - Call of Duty 4 (2007) - World at War (2008) - Modern Warfare 2 (2009) - Black Ops (2010) - Modern Warfare 3 (2011) - Black Ops 2 (2012) EA DICE: - Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (2010) - Medal of Honor (2010) - Battlefield 3 (2011) - Medal of Honor 2 (2012) I don't think you can really throw stones at the "one effectively-the-same game every year" greenhouse, EA. Point is, both publishers need to try doing something original for once.

@ChillingSky Medal of Honor and Battlefield have been around a bit longer than  Call of Duty. Neither has outpaced Call of Duty since Call of Duty came around.

@Tacojoint - BF3 is a much different experience but it has a much larger (actual, real) learning curve for most COD players... but if you buy it and put the time in it's WAY more satisfying than any COD game i've played since WaW.

@guildclaws Include all their other yearly "Updated" sports games to that list lol.

@ChemicalReaper First of all, EVERY Call of Duty game has the exact same play style, with different skins. Sure they have different developers. Medal of Honor, Bad Company, Battlefield, are three different formulas of FPS.

Also, for the reply to the commment I originally made -- Medal of Honor is not made by Dice but, by Danger Close. Dice did the multiplayer component of Medal of Honor (Danger Close will be doing both SP and MP this time around with Warfighter).

So same play style every year (with the SAME 1998 modified QUAKE 3 engine, when they make BILLIONS from this same formula every year) -- compared to a different playstyle every year, with much improved physics, AI, sound, graphics, game design -- WHILE making much less profits.

@sykopat99 Why remove the edit ( I know that only today I already earased 3 of my posts to correct it.), and why remove the dislike, instead of simply stop hiding the most disliked posts? I want to see those posts, but I also want to know  if lots of people dislikes it.
