EA lays out Fight Night 3 details

Arturo Gotti, Micky Ward grace cover of Feb. 2006's Xbox, PS2 versions; PSP, Xbox 360 confirmed for franchise's third bout.

Few boxers show the results of "The Sweet Science" on their faces like Arturo "Thunder" Gotti and "Irish" Micky Ward, two gritty welterweights who tend to block punches with their heads. The two have hooked up for three recent epic fights and will be showing their battered faces again for a new audience.

EA has announced that the two boxers will be featured on the retail box art of the third installment in the Fight Night franchise for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game is being developed by EA's Chicago studios and is scheduled for release in February 2006 on both platforms.

Today, Fight Night Round 3 was also officially announced for the Xbox 360 and PSP. However, both versions will sport a different pugilist from the current-gen editions as cover athlete. EA will reveal the fighter(s) in question at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month. No further information on the PSP and Xbox 360 versions of the game, including release date or rating information, was disclosed.

Though the games' releases are a way off, the punching has begun on the Web, where EA has released a teaser site for the game as an undercard. Details are slim, but a trailer featuring Bernard Hopkins duking it out with Roy Jones Jr. shows off the game's new graphics.

In a statement released today, EA made no mention of the PlayStation 3 version of the slugger, which made headlines at this year's E3 for its technical demo included in Sony's press conference.

I agree with all who complain about the "arcade" style of FNR2. However, it was still a GREAT game, regardless of its accuracy of simulation. The fact is that boxing, like so many other sports, is a sport of reflexes with inches being the difference between a knockout blow and a glancing blow. How is that supposed to be simulated? As long as every punch is 100% accurate, as it was in 1 and 2, it's not a "simulation" at all. I do wish though that they would ditch haymakers and instead base the hard hits on timing or perhaps just a button to hold while doing the normal hook or upper-cut motion. Also, a major problem with the haymaker system is that you can't destroy anybody with a powerful straight right hand. For some boxers, including some included in this game, like Micky Ward, the straight right hand is their best punch. In FNR2 the straight right is barely better than the jab. Finally (and this is turning into a rant), fighters punches should be rated individually. Fighters are known for one punch being money, and it adds strategy to a match b/c the other fighter will make avoiding that punch their key strategy. /Obviously, the Fight Night series has some problems, but they are all fixable. The analog stick control system makes it by far the best boxign game ever, regardless. Mankind has finally answered the question: Can one measly game make someone go out and blow their enitre student loan check on an HDTV and a 360? Yes. Finally, fighters that need to be included (come on EA, you have unlimited funds): Foreman, Hagler, Hearns, Hatton, Tszyu, Tyson, Joe Lewis, Corrales, Castillo, etc. etc. There should be at least 100 boxers. If there were, I would pay 100 bucks for the game at least. / One final comment: those of you who say you only want the game for the classic heavyweights...OPEN YOUR EYES. Some of the best boxing matches ever have happened since the turn of the millenium, including the fights involving the cover boys, Ward and Gatti. I challenge any of you to watch the first Ward-Gatti fight (a torrent exists) and come away pining for "the good old days" of boxing. Same goes for Castillo-Corrales. Castillo-Corrales III this February...check it out boys.

lol swan lord and oniacid! u guys are redickulus, do u really think that round 3 won't come out for PS3 when it comes out?! sure it will its an EA game EA games come out on EVERYTHING PRATICALLY. And oniacid 2 say that the demo and screens shown was 4 the 360 not the PS3 u are retarded seriously actually the demo at E3 had really nothing 2 do with Billbox or PS3 really the developers said they used the nvidia chip when i'm sure u know nothing but nvidia has nothing 2 do with M$ and i'm sure u don't know that nvidia is making the graphics chip 4 the PS3 also know as RSX. People get a clue instead of just posting a comment about something you not even know. Round 3 will be ready for ps3 as soon as it launches

"sony PS3= VAPORWARE and the Screens that you seen were the Xbox360 versions....Sony is so full of it they stink!!!!! Long live 360 it s the Real Deal.!!!" how about waiting till the Ps3 comes out first, it amazes me how people are blasting the other systems so hard and they haven't even been released yet. calm that "so n so is da ish" crap for next year.

If you people hate gamespot so much then why the hell are you going to the site much less taking to time to post messages about how biased they are?

"You people ever think, that the reason theres no PS3 confirm date cause it may be a launch title and its release date would give away the secretive PS3 release date. if they didn't intend to make a PS3 version, they wouldn't have hyped the PS3's opening at E3...and not the 360's." You kids really are fanboys. IF you get over all the sony-microsoft BS, you will notice that there is no release date for the 360 version either, just that the 360 version has been confirmed. It doesnt make anyone a MS fanboy just because they ask that since a ps3 version (not release date) hasnt been confirmed that is there a chance it wont come out. Do you really have to get so defensive over a damn console?

So Fight Night Round 2 will still be the best boxing game on the Gamecube next year, apparently. Unless you count the included port of Super Punch-Out!! or the Animal Crossing version of Punch-Out!!

We need Mike Tyson, Pernell Whittaker, Prince Nassim, and 50 year old George Foreman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That would be my dream Fight Night roster!!!!

"I can't wait for Fight Night 3 to come out. I just hope they fix it from the "arcade" experience that drowned Round 2. " Well, I know it is only the cover athletes but if Arturo Gatti is on the cover then the style of the game will probably favor haymakers & an all action/no strategy type gameplay again. So, once again forget about watching your stamina throughout a fight (hey, EA, fighters get tired after throwing 100 punches a round in any weight class!) and more of the relaxed realism of the last Fight Night...don't get me wrong, I love FN: Round 2 but it is more for fans of the fighting genre itself then actual boxing fans.

Whatever it comes out on I just hope they make it easier to throw haymakers. That analog stick sh!t was wack.

The PS3 version will come out thats no question sony has something in store for you and the guys at EA know it already You will see it at CES 06 and you can quote me on that. Theres a reason for everything. Most of the junk heard about sony has been from speculation but remember this Sony it self its its nature to be silent and then show you the goods not blowing it by showing you new things every week and for those that dont know surprise is what gets people talking and naysayers keeping there mouth shut.

We shouldn't care when the PS3 is coming out, or if GS favors M$. To let everyone know, I am a M$ fanboy, but I still respect Sony, even though their PS2 crapped out on me. But thats just my story. What I think is cool is how developers are developing not just for next-gen, but also current-gen. When the PS2 came out, it seemed like instantly the PSone was lost. Now with games being developed for both Xbox and 360, it is cool that developers haven't lost interest in current-gen, but that is all I have to say.

If you guys forgot yesturday's news, EA said it was skeptical of Sony that it will release the PS3 within Spring 2--6, and said "Fall 2006, if not later". So, if the PS3 DOES come out before that timetable, EA probably will not support the launch. If they do, the most they will release will be something like FIFA for the 360, only that's it.

Kracka2205

Why are people hatin' on Sony and GameSpot. Of course they're not gonna anounce a PS3 version. PS3 isn't even out, but you know that it's coming thanks to that awesome real-time demo back in may. Who knows, maybe by that time it will be Round 4.

Maybe just maybe it's 2007 instead of 2006 for the Playstation 3. I'm not insisting the consoles going to be delayed, but maybe the title will be. Of course I may be totally wrong....I'm interested in the classic heavyweights.

Round 2 was the absolut best boxing game ever and I expect the Round 3 to be even better especially on the 360, and EA better not be cheap on the 360 version like they did on thier other game for the 360. Cause Madden, Live, and FIFA are terrible compared to the xbox or PS2 versions.
