EA Humble Bundle passes 1 million sales

Milestone achieved in under 36 hours; total spending eclipses $5,000,000.

The EA Humble Origin Bundle, launched earlier this week, has surpassed 1 million sales. The milestone was achieved in under 36 hours.

At press time, 1,062,518 bundles have been purchased, totaling $5,095,852.27 in payments. The average purchase is $4.80.

Gamers can pay a minimum of $1 for Dead Space 3, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition, Medal of Honor, and Bunrout Paradise: The Ultimate Box.

Those paying above the average--$4.80 at the time of writing--will also receive Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3: Starter Pack, which contains The Sims 3 and expansions Late Night Expansion Pack and High-End Loft Stuff.

EA is giving all proceeds to charity. Users can choose where their donations will go between five organizations: Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, and American Red Cross.

The Humble Origin Bundle will be available until August 28.

Origin/Steam games will eventually get cheaper and cheaper. Not that cheap like the ones in this bundle. But what about the overpriced DLC?

Kudos to EA. The Sims 3 Starter still sells quite well and the $6 million in sales so far speaks to the demand for the games in the bundle as a whole. Of course this a great thing they're doing. Probably the kindest thing I've seen from a major publisher in a long time. I just hope Valve is matching their generosity and waiving the ~30% they usually charge for each sale of these games on Steam for the Steam codes, otherwise not only is EA promoting a competitor and not making a profit, but they're also shelling a pretty big sum of their own money.

it's kind of funny how many are asking for codes, i mean c'mon people with only 5$ you can get all of those games. no one can be that cheap...

Someone wants to get rid of his MOH code ?

This... this is a good thing. I... was wrong. Good things can come out of this for EA.

people are funny. one year ago, battlefield 3 sold by the millions for $60. the sims 3 and the 2 expansions still cost $60. the dead space trilogy costs $15~$40 each. if steam drops their price to $10 each everyone lose their minds and spend hundreds and hail steam for being nice and selling our games cheap. but if EA sells them all for $1 and donates it to charity, "no one will be playing those games anyway", "EA sucks, it doesn't even have any good games to give for free", "they're doing it to make us use origin" (although most games have steam key). stop hating a brand, it's just a fuckin' brand!

I am so happy none of my $4 is going to EA. Hell, I even tipped humble site with $2.

Still haven't played Dead Space 3 because I'm afraid it will ruin the series for me.

We still have like 10 days before this runs out, good thing because Code autentication has stopped working on ORIGIN... surprise surpise. DO you think they'll add more games in last days?

Hey I have a bunch of keys left over from this one if anyone wants to trade for previous keys on bundles I missed for games you don't want / already have. PM me if you want. The only keys I used from this bundle are Sims 3 and Dead Space (which I gave away).

BF3 is just going to be pretty empty anyways with BF4 on the way. I just snagged a copy and grabbed Medal of Honor since I actually didn't have that one. Everything else I gave to friends.

As usual, shit EA doesn't care for anymore. They have nothing enticing to offer to Humble Bundle. On the brightside people still get a bunch of games they can play for a bit for almost 5 bucks.

Let people support EA and their false charity if they want. Just try to give a bit to humble if you can.

If anyone wants battlefield 3 origin key or crysis 2  , message me , i have both games and wont be redeeming

They are doing it not for charity but to get people to install origin with games that don't sell much anymore.

Note: It doesn't matter if the games are good or not. That's individual. Some of them are some of them are not for anyone

Oh and here's a free Dead Space steam key. I already have it on the 360: 0A230-JY9Z7-RM3XA

You can assume the first person to like or comment is the person who got it.

EA only did this to get more people on Origin. Seriously.

I bought the bundle but I still haven't installed Origin. Whether I do or not depends on if I want to play Dead Space 3. I've never played any of the DS games. I'll start with the original on Steam. I'm really not bothered about any of the other Origin exclusive games in the bundle.

Origin looked decent at first glance, however every 3 minutes or so my downloads kept stopping and I had to restart Origin to get it to work. MANY are experiencing this problem right now, not impressed!

I have mixed feelings about the EA Humble Bundle, on one hand I don't like AAA games stealing the spot light from smaller indie developers who need the money, but on the other hand EA is not making any money and instead the money you spend there goes to charities and the website and all the games are AAA that I haven't really played (except for Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, and The Sims 3) and for $1 I can see what they're like! I bought it, but I do hope they go back to indie Humble Bundles sometime soon, they're usually better games and it actually helps developers!

Armaita

@KemistiOMg it's not about cheap or not. I don't want ALL the games .. just moh . if i pay 5 dollar  , then i'm stuck with all of those games. Then going to put them on internet for free and HOPING that someone will use them.

That's the reason i'm asking if someone is not using there's.

VIZGIX

@MigGui There are legitimate reasons to dislike EA's business practices, so there is definitely still a need to keep an eye out for EA. However, I agree with most of what you are saying, and this is a step in the right direction for EA.

I don't see why people are so hesitant to use Origin, even if its only for a game or two that wont work on steam. People shell out hundreds of dollars to play system exclusives, but bitch about having to download another program/client to play a game they (want?) to play?

I mean, I'm not the biggest EA fan, but I still jumped on this bundle because I am out for my own interests above all else.

@DiverseGamer I actually liked it. the first part plays a lot like past games, and the second part concludes the series with a bang.

@telaros Nothing enticing?...Did you read the title of the article.  Apparently there is something enticing about this bundle.  Quit being a bandwagon hater.

@mrboone01 Watsi isn't worthwhile? All they do is crowd-source vital treatments to extremely needy people. Isn't that what the greedy capitalists usually say they would prefer instead of socialized medicine?

madmartigan117
madmartigan117

@edinko Oh dear lord.. You have to install Origin to get free games.  Did they put a gun to your head and force you to drop a few bucks?

WayneL23

@edinko dude all except battlefield 3 and Sims 3 starter pack come with steam codes as well. You don't have to install origin.

@MooncalfReviews Uh... That IS the point... Why is that so wrong? You think a company would just do a charity out of the blue for no apparent reason? Even a gaming company at that.

@MooncalfReviews

Meh , i used all steam keys , and left all Origin keys unused. So they didnt really get me to use that piece of shit called Origin.

thorn3000

@punz_ well duh, 1 milion people bough the bundle in 2 days, which means 8 games, which means 8 milion additional downloads in the last 2 days as compared to the standard amount of downloads....obviously their servers will need some time to recover, always happens by major game releases for every company / client / platform, but this is beyond major release to be honest, this bundle is selling like free cakes

MooncalfReviews

@edpeterson They already went back to indie titles. They had a new one this week with Binding of Isaac, Amnesia, etc.

Hells_rebelion
Hells_rebelion

@edpeterson I don't see a problem, while yes they are in the spotlight right now.  I'm sure 5$ wont break the bank and people can still grab up the Indie bundle while they are on the site for chump change.

GameYakuza

@Armaita @KemistiOMg oh the horror! too many games! seriously, each game has a separate code, so you can pay what you want, grab what you want and promptly forget about the rest.

@madmartigan117 @edinko YOu are unable or unwilling to see the bigger picture. Nobody also puts guns to peoples head to pay microtransactions in dead space 3. Its a cheap psychotrick to lure people into origin. It seems to work on you

@PartyGavinParty

Charity for a self-serving reason isn't charity, and is just manipulative and douchey.

And to answer your question, yes. Some companies give to charity for no reason.

punz_

@thorn3000 @punz_ Not many still reading this ,but the problem is that the client does not auto resume dead downloads. Whether or not the service is getting hammered should not affect this.

I've been searching around for a fix a creating a simple .ini file seems to solve this. Downloading the beta fixes it for some people as well. It should have worked properly from the get go, not impressed!

Oh, and the download speeds have been fine.

DiverseGamer
DiverseGamer

@VIZGIX @DiverseGamer @GameYakuza

I don't think that's true because the co-op requires online, and a game company wouldn't create a game that requires internet to get through the single player campaign.

VIZGIX
VIZGIX

@edinko @madmartigan117 oh for sure. EA is all kinds of evil when I comes testing the limits of how much a consumer will pay, and trying to squeeze every last drop out... That all said I still bought the bundle and will still play the games, heck I even have to use origin.

But the bottom line lies in economics, whoever offers the better offers will sell more games. This bundle imo doesn't really do anything for them in the long run if they don't change their business practices. they get everyone to use origin to play the HB games? So what, that doesn't mean anything if they don't sell any more games after that (they didn't make money this time b/c charity). Really the problem is not people who bought the HB, but the masses of sheeple are willing to pay for all the micro-transactions after buying the game on day 1, and don't care about all the technical/development problems with games.

PartyGavinParty
PartyGavinParty

@MooncalfReviewsCharities get their money, EA gets publicity. Who gives money to charity anonymously when you're a business? Businesses give money to charity for publicity and tax write offs. How and why would a company as large as EA give to charity without publicizing it?

You're looking for a reason to hate EA. I mean, giving 5 million dollars to charity is 'definitely' "self-serving."

thorn3000
thorn3000

@MooncalfReviews @martinz0000 first of all 3...second of all, do other clients never have promotions to get you to use them?...I don't see the wrongdoing in it especially if it goes for charity
