EA confirms Burnout Crash

Megapublisher officially announces new action-style racing game due out this fall for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade with Kinect support.

There's been a great amount of mystery and intrigue surrounding Burnout Crash, the rumored new entry in Electronic Arts' racing series. That's finally set to change, as the publisher today officially announced the game.

Burnout Crash hits XBLA and the PSN this fall.

Burnout Crash will land this fall on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. As was rumored, it will challenge gamers to maximize the damage done to vehicles and buildings while behind the wheel. No price point was offered for the game.

Burnout Crash sports three game modes across six unique locations, and it boasts 18 crash junctions. Additionally, the game supports the Autolog feature, an online social infrastructure that was first introduced in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

The XBLA iteration of Burnout Crash will support Microsoft's gesture-recognition technology, Kinect. The Kinect-enabled game mode has two teams using gesture controls to crash and burn in what EA calls a "party battle."

Series creator Criterion Games--which most recently developed Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit--will handle development duties on Burnout Crash.

seems like after the fiasco of fighters uncaged, no one dares tackle a kick-ass fighting game, something i thought was what would kinect make truly interesting ... still 'young' tho i suppose, i do suspect the famour motion sensing tech is just not fine enough (considering the lousy controls in the abovementioned game)

At least Need for Speed filled the gap for a new Burnout game with Hot Pursuit, it felt a lot like Burnout 3.

Grand theft auto retro on berserker drug is what this game is on. Impressed waved goodbye and wtf is settling in.

When this flops it is going to be EA's rational of why Burnout doesn't need the modes we like (like this one) actually implemented in the real game... Really I think they should just give us another Burnout Paradise but also give us the option to just play the races / events in menu fashion without me wasting my time driving around an open world to find something to do or swap cars. Paradise was great to distract my 8 year old because he could just mess around and never actually play any events, but I need something I can get into and playing faster and easier. In other words, give us a Burnout 3 / Paradise offspring that makes both camps happy.

Pretty disappointing. I was hoping for a full-fledged sequel to Burnout: Paradise. It's been 3 and a half years since Paradise after all. Would have been great to have an all-new city to explore and do events in, but also be similar in content to Revenge with much more emphasis on destruction and crashes instead of races. I thought Critereon did a fantastic job with Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit last year. Oh well, I'm still getting this game and it looks like it'll be fun but it was not what I was expecting. I hope a real Burnout game title comes in the next few years.

I still like Criterion (Hot Pursuit was epic after all) but Burnout deserves a full sequel. I have faith Criterion will still make this very fun, but I want a new, full Burnout game already.

You gotta be kidding me!!! Make a new proper Burnout sequel with crash, races, AND most importantly takedowns.

Criterion, ruined by EA....................

While Crash Junctions are fun, an entire game of just them not offset by the speed of normal races would become a bit boring for me.

When they said a while back that they were going back to their arcade style for the next burnout I thought they ment a burnout game like burnout 3 or revenge. I didn't expect the arcade style to be this :S.

I actually think this looks kinda neat. There aren't many top-down racers out there like this. I might be interested in trying a demo.

Would have loved a new Purnout Paradise, but this might while away some of the time waiting for any news on a new Burnout Paradise. I'll give this game a try, might be good.

Yep. Lame. I just want a bigger Paradise with better wheel support, a decent map, and the ability to restart races wouldn't hurt it none either. This is an iPhone game, on consoles for some reason.

This is basically Showtime mode from Burnout Paradise in game mode. I'd rather just play it in Burnout Paradise!

@mjc0961 there was a "restart last event" option in the easy drive menu.

Well, I will undoubtedly be checking this out after the success of Hot Pursuit. Granted, I'm a tad bit surprised about the limited number of crash junctions, considering Burnout 3: Takedown had a hundred venues if I remember correctly. But I'm certainly not going to jump to conclusions the day of announcement; will be looking forward to this.

They should just make the whole game Crash Mode with a few variations on the mode. I was never a big fan of the racing in Burnout, just Crash.......
