EA Chicago workload detailed

Def Jam: Icon developer also has a licensed title and a fighting game based on a new IP in the works for Xbox 360 and PS3.

In announcing the inauguration of development house EA Chicago's new downtown Chi-town digs, Electronic Arts today also ran down the projects the developer has on its plate at the moment.

The 150-developer studio is currently working on a trio of titles for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360: the previously announced Def Jam: Icon, a licensed title, and a fighting game based on a new intellectual property. To accommodate the demands of the projects, EA plans to add another 100 developers to the studio next year. Interested applicants can check out the open positions at the publisher's official Web site.

I'd Love to see them do a game based on K1 or Muyai Tai, could use pretty much the same system as Fight Night. i loved those games but have never been a big fan of boxing. and with the beat em up market being so stale these days with just more of the same for the same old series of games, it would make a nice change.

In less than 339 days.. EA has pumped out 13 games for the xbox 360. good grief. And most of them have gotten mediocre scores. Now let us compare that to some other companies shall we? (these are just for 360) Other companies care about and take pride in their games.. like: Ubisoft: they've released about 4 games this year. And all of them are good or excellent. outstanding ones include graw and splintercell DA. And we got rainboy six: vagas coming soon which is gonna be great. Epic: they've spent a looong time on gears of war. perfecting it to the last minute. And getting the MS fanboys hyped up. Bungie: working on their masterpiece halo 3 since 2005. And boy, i'll tell ya, it's gonna be one kickbutt game. Activision: released the critically acclaimed and one of the best fps of all time game: cod 2. And we got cod3 on the way next month. Bethesda: released their much hyped and one of the best rpgs ever game: oblivion and I could go on and on. Ea should learn a lesson or two.

It's nice to see one of only two EA studios that are worth a damn (the other is Criterion) get some additional resources. I guess EA must have a few dozen programmers, artists, etc. floating around with all of the closures it has been announcing lately with DICE, their Warrington studio etc.

EA Chicago has done quite well with Fight Night. Unless that series flops, I doubt EA will close the studio.

I hope this "fighting game based on an intellectual property" is a lot better than Marvel:Nemesis was. Don't get your hopes up, though...

Good luck to Kudo for hopefully making all those games awesome - can't wait for a possible On The Spot about Def Jam: Icon with him and Alex Navarro duking it out on the streets.

Interesting. Wonder what the license is, and if the IP will be any good.
