EA Access Now Available On Xbox One

Subscription program leaves beta and is now available to anyone.

EA Access, the "game-changing" subscription program from Mass Effect and Battlefield publisher Electronic Arts, is now available for anyone on Xbox One. The program began last month for a limited number of beta testers, but now anyone can try out the service.

An EA Access subscription is $5/month or $30/year and lets you play any game in "The Vault" for as long as your subscription is active. You also get a 10 percent discount on EA digital games and content, as well as access to upcoming games five days before they are released.

The first four games confirmed for The Vault are FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4. More will be added in the future, and might includes titles like EA Sports UFC, Need for Speed Rivals, and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, if box art featured on the EA Access website is anything to go on. Last week, EA COO Peter Moore promised that the company will not remove games from The Vault.

As for games you can play early, these begin with Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15, NHL 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition later this fall. Early access for upcoming EA games will vary by game. For some games, you'll be able to play one mode for a limited time, while other games will allow you to play a full version for a limited time. In all cases, if you decide to buy the game when it is released, your progress will be saved, allowing you to pick up where you left off.

As for why EA Access is only available on Xbox One and not PlayStation 4, Sony said last week that it did not think the service offered the kind of value PlayStation fans have come to expect.

I signed up and am happy with the service.  Out of the 4 games they have so far i only already owned Battlefield 4.  I probably wouldn;t have bought madden 25 but have had fun playing it.

I also planned on getting NHL 15 as soon as it came out.  Getting the game for 10% off is nice.

Why can't I pay this subscription with my XBOX Live money? I have $50 and it says credit card only.

This service is all about patience. If you are patient and wait 30-60 days after the releases of new sports games I would think they would add them to the vault. Then for only $30 a year you play FIFA, Madden, (New Baseball game maybe by EA?), NBA Live...and so on

this will eventually result in cheaper digital games for consoles across the board

Cheap services used to entice us and to get us used to not owning their software. Then when it becomes the norm, they snatch away your right to physical ownership with a streaming cloud service. DON'T ENCOURAGE THIS BEHAVIOR.

For some players EA is offering a great service here.

To me not so much, but lets see how this plays out. If they do things right this can be an important factor on my decision between a PS4 and the X1.

I've been doing digital downloads for every game i buy on pc for years.  Console only people will love it once they get used to it.

Had a hard copy of Fifa and BF4. Went to gamestop today and got $48. Came home and spent $5 for the games I'm only going to play for this month. Put the $48 towards Destiny and reserved the Fifa 15 ill get to play early. I AM SO HAPPY WITH THIS!!!!

Is anyone else unable to load the EA Access app? Every time I try to it says it can't connect to EA servers.

I have no interest in EA or their games. Seems like the only people who still love EA are Xbox fanboys because they need to justify spending $30 a year to access their games while dissing a beta version of PSNow. Not surprising, I guess.

I think it's good being only on the Xbox One,  it deserves some love too

I sign up a week ago on beta and it's awesome been on FIFA non-stop, and battlefield has been downloaded but not played. Not enough time

So I got it for a month and guess what? The gaming market hasn't toppled, people haven't rioted, and the world hasn't blown up. Yet. Anyways, I'm waiting for the games to download and so far so good. I figure if it's that bad then I just cancel and I'm out $5. No harm no foul.

@Btons28 Yea, not likely. They would lose major profit that way. Sports game I would be willing to bet will not be available for at least 6-9 months after release if not the full cycle with the previous year's game in the vault.

@natedawg3654 I don't even remember when was the last physical game I bought for PC. Maybe Mass Effect 1. Even on console I rarely buy physical copies any more.

@brian_ghattas You may not have but thanks for sharing your opinion. Thankfully different people have different interests. I for 1 love Fifa, Need for Speeds, Battlefield, Tiger Woods or PGA tour games. EA have made some great games a lot of which I have missed. For £19.99 a year, that's 41p a week. Thanks for the heads up on PSNow though I'll check that out as I haven't had much cause to play PS4 recently.

@brian_ghattas You make no sense i dont see the big hate against EA people are just following now just because they were voted worst company people just decide to hate and no one need to justify anything its a very good deal you're the one coming here justifying psnow when deep down you its not good value also i have to love for EA they're a publisher they dont make the games that i love no need to hate on them

So ya xbox fanboys dont love EA they love a good deal so stop trying to justify PSNOW the price is pure madness

gunnmetal

@brian_ghattas lol psnow, yeah pay more money for old games youve already bought time and time again. how many final fantasy 7 games have you bought? ff7 psx, ff7 on ps3 digital and now pay again to stream it!

@clarens56 Let's wait until the final product arrives before throwing stones. Also, learn how to use punctuation marks as it makes you look uneducated online.

@Ahiru-San @brian_ghattas lol!! Let's see if Sony changes the pricing on PSNow after Activision announces their Access service is exclusive on XBox One.

@tableofjapan @gunnmetal @brian_ghattas i dont consider these games old its like saying this generation pf console is already old since all the games in the vault are next gen only unless there is a sequel to these games they're not old as for ps now now thats a definition of old bunch of games released 5 to 6 years ago with bunch of sequels foe way to much money i still laugh everytime i think of when sony say EA access is not good value

iammcgruber

@rasterror I really don't see what's so bad about digital. So no more damaged/scratched discs, no more getting up when you want to play a new game, more room on the bookshelf. People hate it, but steams been doing it for a long time and it's a huge success. I never trade my games in anyway, and while I like looking at a massive collection of games on the shelf like everyone else, I find scrolling through a ton of games on "my games and apps" is just as satisifying.

suppaphly42
suppaphly42

@rasterror no not just $5 but $5 from everyone that looked which is maybe millions so if that then EA says its a hit and pushes for only digital content as you may have noticed  the first step has already been take with the no more free demo unless  you pay $5 a month which makes them not free demo anymore  do you see now

brian_ghattas
brian_ghattas

@dhsk8sb No, just the endless stream of horny bachelors who populate these sites such as yourself.

suppaphly42
suppaphly42

@iammcgruber @rasterror yes but steam is free online play is free. not money on a timer. yes you have to buy the games, and some games have a sub,  but they are dirt cheap when on sale.

what consoles are doing is just milking people with have to have internet have to have XB gold have to have EA access, or in the case of playstation have to have plus have to have now ( i know you don't "have to have it now" but it will change ) so how long till every game pub is on board with this and a hobby that we all love is subject to if you are paid up and not oh i own this and can play when ever i want.

also i have never scratched a game ever, if you have then you don't take care of your stuff

and if people are so lazy they can't put a disk in the system  then just role over and die now life is to hard for you

rasterror
rasterror

Then I'll cancel it like many others would. I doubt that even EA would be that stupid.

suppaphly42

@rasterror whoa i think i will have to keep my points to myself as a whole bunch of my comments are disappearing i may be being watched

suppaphly42
suppaphly42

@rasterror that ea and ms are trying to get a strangle hold on the digital console market to kill used games and to do that they have to kill hardcopies. this is the first step in the insidious plan by MS and EA to get the policies that had to be scraped back in action. they never gave up on them, just realized it has to be done in small unnoticed steps. so that by the time we do see what has happened its to late .

i don't buy used games because i want the pubs and dev to get some of the money for the game they made, but i still want ownership  of the game i buy. so that they can't just take it from me like a policed state if i don't agree to the terms.  please don't call me a tin hat person

clarens56
clarens56

@suppaphly42 and than we have steam wouldnt that be great i dont mine a digital future more sales for us like steam gamestop will not buy our $60 for $4.99

rasterror
rasterror

Insidious plan by Microsoft and EA? So what do you think Sony and multiple publishers are doing with Playstation Now? Not only are they trying to destroy game resales bu[ they're trying to wring every dollar out of consumers. What company or business would think it's good to rent something to someone for a short period of time for twice the price of buying it out right?

suppaphly42
suppaphly42

@rasterror ok this is a bit weird all that stuff was just gone a minute ago i did a restart and now that one is back but a bunch of other comments are gone anyway yes what they are doing (sony now ) is junk too and and all of what i said is comparable as we all know sony was on board with that stuff too
