E3 Nintendo Direct slated for June 11

Nintendo expected to show off Wii U Mario, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart games during briefing next month.

Nintendo will not have a traditional Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing this year, but the company will hold a Nintendo Direct briefing during the show on June 11, the Mario maker said today.

The Nintendo Direct, which is expected to give gamers more details on the all-new Wii U Smash Bros., Mario, and Mario Kart titles, will begin at 7 a.m. PDT.

Nintendo announced in April that it would opt out of a large-scale E3 press conference this year, instead focusing on smaller, more dedicated presentations and events.

Nintendo's latest Nintendo Direct was held last week and saw the company announcing a three-game exclusive Sonic partnership with Sega, a release date for New Super Luigi U, and new details about Pikmin 3.

I love Mario games. Who cares if they use the same set of characters for 10 games, they are all still unique and fun games that always have something new, unlike other franchises.

Too...much...Mario. That being said, I am looking forward to Smash Bros.

Dear Nintendo: When you develop the next Mario Kart, please for the love of god, LOSE THE BLUE SHELLS. Bring back BALANCE to the Mario Kart series (like the original SNES version).

Wish it were to happen earlier, but that's alright. Wii U will probably have the best Exclusive games to be announced, but I hope that's not the case. I want great games for each of the consoles. Make me want to buy your console!

I didn't like the changes they made from Melee to brawl.... and i didn't like the fact brawl had about 1/3 of the characters a remade palette. I seriously hope they don't plan on doing that again.. i mean cmon.... 3 foxes? and forcing people to play that horrible campaign for characters was terrible! please make it like Melee again ! or just re-release Melee with updated rooster and don't screw up one of your best franchises anymore.

I'm still excited about the new Smash Bros. but the controls will probably suck without GC controller support. :\

in future years, the E3 will be nothing more than game companies streaming videos of their press conferences while at LA the gaming press will be there to just play the demo of games that are going to be released later in the year.

I think Nintendo has done a smart thing in regarding their priorities as well as their Direct videos about their products that come around ever few months.

If it is a cheaper way to go, as well as less distraction so they could focus more on their games then all the better for it.

@mario-nin-freak yeah they always add or bring back a unique feature from the past games it adds a special feeling seeing things like the tanooki leaf being brought back, and in things they add ,like the squirrel suit, they add a new ability such as being able to hang on a wall

Nintendonerd549

@The_Gaming_Baby yeah they do have a lot of mario games announced but that is their main thing. and smash bros. should be great cant wait to see any new characters

@Shanks_D_Chop

And I bet when they do, you'll ignore it and go for Mario and Zelda again because if you didn't, then you wouldn't be saying this since this past January, nearly every game they highlighted was the "stuff other than the same old stuff."

@Micropixel

I liked how they did it in MarioKart 7, where the Blue Shells would hit every racer driving in the middle until it hit first place, so it's not completely unfair to the lead racer.

I'm just hoping that Nintendo takes cues from Sumo Digital's Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, that game really pushed the kart racing genre forward.

@Joedgabe One: Melee had twice the roster problems that Brawl had. So many clones!!! Fox & Falco, Marth and Roy, Mario and Dr. Mario, Pikachu and Pichu...why...Pichu...? At least Fox and Wolf play totally differently.

Two: Brawl doesn't force you to play the campaign. You can unlock the characters through normal battles. (Which is what Melee did, last I checked)

Three: Brawl has the Pokemon Trainer. Instant win.

@Jebril You can probably use the pro controller, which would be nice because I don't really have anything that uses the one I purchased.

@Jerell_rast Let's be honest, it would be better if all it had to offer was Zombi U. I won't support the Xbox One  out of protest, I don't want always online(even if it is a half assed check in system), or blocks on used games. I'm going to miss Forza but it seems like it is on its way out, same for Halo it only takes MS so long to screw everything up.

WoodenStick

@TBoneTony Hopefully, instead of that, Nintendo will put demos on the eShop to try with a low set number of replays so that we can try it out around the time of E3. It's better than mass numbers of people running to Best Buy with no intention of buying anything there.

@HonorOfGod They can't. They have to go after PS4 and XBOX One announce what they have to not be overshadowed by the press. If they comeout a week before, for instance, they become yesterday's news quickly. I don't like it either, but it's to make sure they get enough press coverage.

xolivierx
xolivierx

@HonorOfGod at least they will show actual video footage of the games and official titles/release dates...I hope. I bet it'll be all scheduled for christmas 2013 = way too late. If solid games are at the rendez-vous, I just might get the console.

Just pray miyamoto be healthy for the next 4-10 years , otherwise no nintendo for you anymore. All you have is mario-mario and mario for now... If you are ok with it , im ok as well.

And yes they are the same olf stuff.

@abHS4L88 @Shanks_D_Chop Such as?

Granted, I've not really been following Nintendo. Not since the Wii. So they might have some news IPs that I've missed or even just bringing back some franchises that have been neglected in recent years and are gathering dust. I accept that.

But I see no mention of such things within this article. Though I guess you could count Pikmin 3...

And I wouldn't make that bet if I were you buddy. I've passed over the last few Mario and Zelda titles.

@abHS4L88 @Micropixel To me the best Blue shell is from Mario Kart DS.

You could at least counter it with a Mushroom right before it crashes to the ground.

@xolivierx @kuda001Yo listen up here's a story

About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees
Is just blue like him inside and outside
Blue is his house with a blue little window
And a blue corvette
And everything is blue for him and himself
And everybody around
'cause he ain't got nobody to listen to

I'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

Oh really? That's weird because I remember seeing Pokemon from GameFreak, Kirby, Smash and Kid Icarus from Sakurai, Fire Emblem, PushMo and Advance Wars from Intelligent Systems, Xenoblade from Monolith Soft, Golden Sun from Camelot, while EAD handles most of the other franchises.

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@Shanks_D_Chop

Yet when they did, you still said "Where are the other games?" that's the point I'm making. So yeah, part of it is them promoting their new and other franchises, but it's also up to the gamers to actually pay attention.

Actually, their heavy hitters are still strong enough if the 3DS was any example since both a 3D Mario and MarioKart spiked sales of the system, essentially wrecking havoc on the Vita's launch in Japan. Super Mario Galaxy 2 sold over 7m and that was the sequel, whereas the original sold over 10m and MarioKart Wii sold over 33m and Brawl sold 11.66m. The difference with these games compared to CoD is that these games only come out once per console (in rare events, 3D Mario will appear twice) so consumers know they'll be getting a game that'll last them the whole console's life, not something that'll be outdated within a year, like CoD or EA sports.

They actually have an IP/franchise for every genre and for the most part, all of those franchises have been well received by the public and critics, problem is is when those games don't do well. Sure Nintendo is more forgiving of poor sales compared to other developers (I mean Fire Emblem has persisted this long despite almost never selling 1m, Xenoblade didn't even break 1m yet Nintendo's allowing Monolith to create another game) but even they have to draw the line in deciding which games to put out and which to put a stop to. You can tell them you want a new F-Zero all you want but what does it tell them if they do put it out and it sells like 500k only? And it's not like Nintendo has a horrible track record when it comes to the quality of their games which is all the more reason why I find it baffling that people demand for variety, but when Nintendo puts it out, they ignore it.

There's this one user who likes to troll sometimes (although he claims he's a Wii U owner) who said he wanted Nintendo to make an open world RPG yet he didn't buy Xenoblade and instead went for Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning, and Xenoblade is widely regarded as the best JRPG of this generation. Not saying everyone is like this, but when you look at the sales of the games, surely you can see that there's a disconnect between what gamers want and what they're willing to purchase.

Shanks_D_Chop
Shanks_D_Chop

@abHS4L88 @Shanks_D_Chop I can kinda complain since it's down to them to grab my attention. It's not down to me that they've been slipping into obscurity as a company and platform.

My concern for them is that their "heavy hitters" just aren't enough to sell them systems anymore. Look at how much flak Activision is getting for their approach to CoD, or EA with their annual sports games.

Nintendo haven't gotten to quite that level, they aren't pushing out a "major" Mario title yearly, but those titles are surely suffering from the same element of fatigue.

I think Nintendo need to be looking hard at their roster and making sure they are filling the genre niches. Have a title for every slot, make them competitive again. Nintendo long had the image of an overly cutesy, "kiddy" range of games which was unwarranted and unfair in my opinion. But it persisted none-the-less. After the Wii I think things have gotten worse in terms of their image and status as a "serious" contender. With MSoft looking like they're floundering and Sony not exactly on safe ground, now could be the perfect time for Nintendo to lose their bronze medal status. But I fear they won't do that if they put too much emphasis on Mario, or the hugely imaginative Mario Kart, while leaving the fresher IPs in the background, obscured.

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@Shanks_D_Chop

Then you really can't complain if you don't pay attention.

There were a few new IPs (as well as one or two major ones that will be revealed this E3), but I was talking about the January Direct where they covered not only Pikmin 3, but also pushing forward their new IP that Platinum's developing, The Wonderful 101, as well as Bayonetta 2, revealing Monolith Soft's next major entry, codenamed "X" (spiritual sequel to their newest franchise, Xenoblade), and a Fire Emblem crossover title with Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei.

Also with Nintendo, of course they're going to push out their heavy hitters first, it makes more business sense to release your guaranteed system sellers first then when the install base is huge, come out with the ones that are still strong but doesn't push major numbers so at least they have a better chance of selling well.

@abHS4L88 @alrepairs @Micropixel I dont know if you guys ever knew .. but I was able to manage avoiding the blue shell 4 to 5 times on mario kart double dash  .. there was a secret timing to the drift boost ...  It was only on double dash ..

( please remove motorcycles.. never liked them )

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@alrepairs@Micropixel

That's also possible in MarioKart Wii and 7, but I do think 7 is the best one since it flies low and hits any racer driving in the middle. Then again, Super Circuit was like a red shell that hit every racer until it reached the first place.

@imm_84 @ominous_prime @TBoneTony Best Buy has huge financial problems right now. They need this more than Nintendo does. Nintendo needs more people to be able to know about these games. Last I checked, over 100 Best Buys were shut down in the past year. Best Buy may be willing to do favors, but the number of locations for this around E3 event will not be as plentiful as getting it also to those that own a Wii U already.
