E3 2019 Bethesda News - Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, Ikumi Nakamura

E3 2019 is over, and Bethesda's press conference has long finished. While the Bethesda name is commonly associated with Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, the publisher is also responsible for a much wider array of games. In fact, we got new looks at Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, along with reveals of several brand-new titles, including Deathloop, from Dishonored developer Arkane.

Before E3 2019, Bethesda made it clear that Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield wouldn't make an appearance at the show. Todd Howard did come on stage and briefly mentioned the two games' names, but there was no look on them along the lines of what we got last year. That said, Howard did recently provide a status update on the two games.

In terms of what was at the conference, we learned the latest and saw a number of trailers for a variety of games, including Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76 (getting a free trial and a battle royale mode called Nuclear Winter), and Elder Scrolls Blades, the latter of which is coming to Nintendo Switch with cross-save. We've also got a new game in the form of Commander Keen for mobile, a follow-up to one of id software's earliest games, and a new game from Tango Gameworks called Ghostwire Tokyo--a horror mystery game.

Interestingly, Bethesda also threw its hat into the ring of cloud streaming companies, unveiling a new project called Orion that it claimed would offer a superior streaming experience. It even briefly demonstrated it live on stage, using a phone to play 2016's Doom, and it looked rather impressive.

Fallout 76

Despite Fallout 76 receiving some mixed reviews upon its release, the developers at Bethesda Game Studios Austin have been steadily improving the game over the last few months. These changes include a number of interesting quality of life updates and some substantial changes that make it more in line with traditional Fallout games. During the press conference, Todd Howard took the stage to show off some of the ambitious new updates for Fallout 76, which include a new battle royale mode called Nuclear Winter and the Wastelanders update, which re-introduces a dedicated story and NPCs to interact with. Furthermore, Fallout 76 will have a free trial period during June 10-17 as well. Here's a quick rundown of what was revealed with Fallout 76.

The Elder Scrolls Series

Though we're likely years away from seeing Elder Scrolls VI, the series is still very active thanks to games like The Elder Scrolls Online, Legends, and Blades. All three of these spin-offs received new updates for what was to come this year and beyond. First up, The Elder Scrolls Blades will release on the Nintendo Switch sometime in Fall 2019, and will feature cross-play with mobile versions of the game. The card-focused battle game Elder Scrolls Legends will also see a new update on June 27. Lastly, The Elder Scrolls Online will get a new DLC known as Dragonhold sometime in Fall of 2019, which will lead to new dungeon content.

Commander Keen

In a surprising turn, Zenimax Online Studios is also working on a new project focused on reviving the classic Commander Keen IP. As a free-to-play mobile game, you'll once again play as Commander Keen and his friends as they battle alien invaders and other monsters. It will also introduce new characters into the Keen franchise, including playable twin geniuses who use clever gadgets.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil series and The Evil Within horror games, took the stage to reveal a brand new title from Tango Gameworks called Ghostwire: Tokyo. The game's director, Ikumi Nakamura then took over to describe the studio's first new IP since The Evil Within, which is set in a world where people are disappearing, and monsters and mythological creatures have resurfaced.

Deathloop

Arkane Studios, the developers of Dishonored and Prey, revealed their next game called Deathloop. Starring as either of two playable characters, who are fierce rivals, you find yourself trapped in a seemingly inescapable loop and have to use your particular set of skills and weapons to fight strange enemies in an even stranger land. Aside from the incredibly stylish trailer which showed off some cool action, we're still in the dark about what Deathloop is about. Still, Arkane's signature style and visuals look to be in full swing with this new IP.

Wolfenstein Youngblood

Arkane Studios also happens to be assisting Machine Games with the next Wolfenstein spinoff, Youngblood. As a co-op focused game starring the daughters of BJ Blazkowicz, you'll use a variety of means to slay vile nazis during an alternate 1980s. Set for release on July 26, Youngblood looks to be upping the action to a massive scale, and it might be on track to becoming the most intense and fun game of the series.

Rage 2 DLC

Rage 2 will see a set of new updates and expansions throughout 2019. In addition to new vehicles, enemies, cheats, and skins--a new expansion called Rise of the Ghosts is coming as well, which adds in a brand new area and mini-campaign. Rage 2 will also see more content following the next expansion.

Orion

During the press conference, there was a segment focusing on new streaming software known as Orion. Developed by id Software, Orion will allow players to stream the latest Bethesda games to modest hardware. In a demonstration, Doom was played live on a mobile phone on stage, running at 60FPS. Doom Eternal

Closing out Bethesda's E3 2019 press conference, id Software showed off new footage of Doom Eternal and revealed the launch date for the game--which is set for November 22, 2019. Releasing on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and Stadia, Doom Eternal ups the action by focusing more on traversal, and of course, the incredibly gory combat. We also saw the first footage of Doom Eternal's multiplayer called Battle Mode, which pits two player-controlled demons against one player who assumes the role as the Doom Slayer. Finally, Bethesda revealed a new collector's edition for Doom Eternal, which includes a life-size helmet modeled after the Doom Slayer.
