Microsoft today unveiled the next iteration in its Xbox One user interface, and it looks significantly different from the original.

At the moment, the company is referring to it as the "New Xbox One Experience," and it brings a whole new look to your console's dashboard. According to the reveal trailer (watch it below), the home screen has been redesigned with a series of vertical and horizontal menu options. If anything, it looks more like the PlayStation 3's XMB than the original Xbox One's Metro UI's tile organization.

Additionally, Microsoft's Windows 10 virtual assistant Cortana is coming to the Xbox One. It's the company's response to Apple's Siri assistant, and it will help you contact friends and launch applications. Interestingly, it seems that you will also be able to use Cortana to research in-game assistance. A demo in the reveal trailer shows a player in Fable Legends asking Cortana what quest he or she can take on next.

Microsoft is also making it easier to send messages and invite friends to parties from within games. Microsoft's philosophy with this operating system seems to be to never make you leave your game for anything.

Finally, Microsoft is focusing on making this new OS snappy and efficient.

The upcoming OS launches this fall. Keep an eye on GameSpot for the official release date when it becomes available. In the meantime, check out all of the news from Microsoft's E3 2015 press conference.
