E3 2014: Role-Playing Game X Now Officially Xenoblade Chronicles X

X, rebirth.

A trailer during the Nintendo Direct video presentation at E3 2014 revealed that the role-playing game previously known only as X, being developed by Monolith Soft, is now titled Xenoblade Chronicles X, placing it in the same series as the developer's critically acclaimed Wii RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles.

The trailer packed a lot of sci-fi imagery into its brief running time, showing massive spaceships and armadas of smaller starfighters, as well as futuristic vehicles soaring over the surface of an ocean. The trailer indicated that the game will be released in 2015.

I bought a WiiU just for this game.  The last Xenoblade game was pimp as hell.

The game is cooking for far too long. AND it's getting uglier for some reason.

@Ripper_TV What you are watching is just cut scenes.  Furthermore, it's not ugly (just because you want movie-quality graphics).  If you understand what the character designs look like in the Xenosaga trilogy and Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii), you should understand what X is all about.  Never judge a book by its cover.

why is it giving me a monster hunter type filing? and all this player 1,2 and3... and the whole character selection means that the story is more bland since it doesn't care who you are, I mean almost all games with nameless characters are this way, I'm not gonna hide it, something tells me I don't gonna like it. and I really liked the xenoblade for wii

@baral-o You should give this game a chance for once.  Furthermore, this is NOT a Monster Hunter game.  This game is a cross between Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy with the traditional elements that made the Wii version of Xenoblade Chronicles a huge hit in Japan.  In Xenoblade Chronicles X, it has everything and more.  More details and improvements are still ahead so have patience and stay tuned.

@baral-o Chrono Trigger and Suikoden 2 are both games with silent protagonists and stories that were really good (in my opinion at least), so I wouldn't be judging just yet. Honestly, X is giving me a Fallout feel, I know Bethesda are definitely not good story tellers, but I feel like this game is going to take the rebuild Colony 6 thing, but expand it into  an entire game giving it an almost Fallout 3 or New Vegas feel, but with a good story behind it hopefully.

This looks fantastic. A sure buy for me.

@misterwhite123 There's gameplay footage on youtube it looks the same is it did when they last showed gameplay footage.

Seeing that screenshot has lost all my enthusiasm, xenoblade was sort of high fantasy, this looks like some space opera garbage, that is way to big of a shift.

@divinejester What you've failed to realize that the trailer is just a freaking cut scene... not actual gameplay.  That's the problem with youth today... always quick judging on an unfinished game.

GoaterSlayer

@divinejester I would argue that Xenoblade was a high fantasy/space opera mash up, or on the same playing field as a lot of modern Final Fantasies. It's got jets and lasers and robots, but the plot plays out like a high fantasy epic. This new Xenoblade definitely looks to be more in line with Xenogears. I'm thinking most of it will be on a a planet if not all of it, as opposed to Xenosaga which was a poorly executed space opera.

Recently got a Wii U and I paid $90 for Xenoblade alone since it is a rare game now. I will make sure to get it on release day this time.

@meharu Xenoblade is 45 bucks at every gamestop. It got reprinted months ago.

@meharu Hey you're lucky here in Mexico it costs like 200 dollars... used.

So does this mean it's being ported for sure and there's no need for another operation rainfall as this does look awesome, but I wasn't crazy for the battle system on Xenoblade.

The new trailer got me way more excited than I thought I would be for this game....

It is another must buy now!

Orga777
Orga777

This was the only thing that got me excited about the Wii U this year. Well, this and Smash (but I knew about that game already.) Hopefully there will not be any dumb nonsense about pricing like Xenoblade Chronicles got on the Wii...

jamiejamie8
jamiejamie8

@Orga777 Are you talking about how expensive it is used like at Gamestop? If so, that's partially because Xenoblade Chronicles didn't have a very large volume of games made for the US, and partially because GS opened new copies to sell them as used to make more of the profits =/

Orga777
Orga777

@jamiejamie8 @Orga777

I know all that. I just hope Nintendo learned from their mistakes from that crap and just make more copies and NOT make it a Gamestop exclusive title that screws over everyone.

I knew it was the X game but somehow it kind of looked like phantasy star.

This game is the only one capable of getting me to purchase a Wii U.

@Thanatos2k I'm in the same boat, but I'm pretty sure I'd pick up some other games once I actually have the console.

@Thanatos2k I was also interested in Pier Solar and the Great Architects.  Of course that could be 3ds as it was an e-shop game.

Thanatos2k

@Rayzakk Pier Solar is being released for every platform in existance, including the Dreamcast.  You do not need a Wii U.  Get it on Steam.

what system is it for? the wii? or wii u

jamiejamie8
jamiejamie8

@monson21502 The Wii is essentially a dead system. Unlike the XB360 and PS3, Nintendo isn't really offering any future support for the Wii.

an_advert

@jamiejamie8 @monson21502 Does the Wii U have backwards compatibility? Because if it does I can understand not supporting the Wii anymore, Wii U isn't a very expensive upgrade after all.

xantufrog

@an_advert @jamiejamie8 @monson21502 I mean no offense by this...

Your question and that of monson are exactly why the WiiU is struggling: people still don't know what the system is and what it can do. Nintendo dropped the ball on that end - the broad populace doesn't understand its value. Hopefully exciting games like this get people drawn in enough to buoy the system

@XionXIII Sad. There are tons of killer announcements. I for one am super excited about the future of gaming.

Awesome, can't wait. Tetsuya Takahashi is one of my favorite developers. Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenogears are two of my favorite games.

lostn

@gutsallover Yeah but I wish he would be allowed to finish his series for once. Xenogears was envisioned as a 6 part series, but Square only allowed them to make one game, so they left Square and joined Namco where they could continue making Xeno games. Except they didn't own the legal rights to Xenogears so Saga could not officially be connected to Gears. This series was also meant as a 6 part series, but it got cut short after XS3, and they did not complete the story they intended. Then they got bought out by Nintendo, and once again lost the rights to both Xenosaga and Xenogears, and had to start again with a new series not officially connected to their past two series.

I really hope this time Monolith gets to finish their series before leaving Nintendo or being bought out by someone else.

RJS86
RJS86

@lostn @gutsallover as to why square allowed such a great team to leave is beyond me, if you follow their history the team was behind chrono trigger and chrono cross as well, there isn't a game where these guys were involved that I didn't love.

I felt brokenhearted when nintendo practically bought them and the realization that I wouldn't get another game from them for my Sony consoles but thanks to that I ended up buying a Wii U and enjoying great Wii U titles.

@broly180 lol sony did not do that great this E3, it had some good games like The Order 1886, Uncharted 4, Entwined, No Man's Sky, Let it Die and Bloodborne, but I was more hooked on Smash Bros., Xenoblade Chronicles X, Splatoon, Zelda Wii U, Yarn Yoshi, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Party 10, Starfox, Pokemon Remakes.

adsparky

If it's as half as good as the original Xenoblade it's gonna be awesome, but it didn't look nearly as good graphically as the past trailers.

tdawgg30

@adsparky It's because you were watching the cut scenes trailer.  The real gameplay is at the Nintendo Treehouse.  Look for it on YouTube.
