E3 2014: Rise of the Tomb Raider Coming Holiday 2015

New instalment in Tomb Raider franchise debuts during Microsoft conference, but no exclusivity announced.

Rise of the Tomb Raider, a sequel to last year's Tomb Raider reboot, has made its debut during Microsoft's E3 press conference with a holiday 2015 release date. While Microsoft made the reveal, no platform exclusivity was announced.

The debut took the form of a new trailer, which showed Lara speaking to a psychiatrist while reminiscing about some of her latest adventures. Falling off a cliff, flares, and a sweet crossbow all featured in the trailer.

Lara's previous adventure, Tomb Raider, was released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, an updated version for the Xbox One and PS4, was released earlier this year.

Rebooting Tomb Raider was really successful project and it has accomplished a lot of sale.

This game never disappointed me at all.  I have a high hope for this game.

I like how tomb raider reboot has a m rating that is cool can't wait for the sequel to come out.

i wonder if someone would ever do a Fear Effect 2 retro helix reboot. that was a cool game back then can you imagine how it would look on ps4

Why would it be platform exclusive? There are probably more Tomb Raider fans on Sony's consoles than Microsoft's.

Good news. This is one of my ALL-TIME favorite games ever (TR Reboot). The Tomb Raider reboot just totally blew away any expectations I previously had for it. It was such a great game and very well done overall. Even playing it on the 360, it looked more "next-gen" then some of the XB1 & PS4 games I've played. Can't wait to check it out.

i wonder if Square will put Rise of the Tomb Raider against Uncharted 4 next year. That would be an epic battle. Love the new Tomb Raider, so very excited with the sequel!

I loved the Tomb Raider reboot, so I'm totally looking forward to this one.  It looks like 2015 is shaping up to be a great year for games.

We have a organic reason to play all these tomb raider games.

The last Tomb Raider was awesome.  One of my favorite 3rd person action titles of all time.  Can't wait to see this game......and the next Deus Ex.

But I hope they change that god awful title.

I like the reboot. I think it was great. It looked stunning. Lara had personality and the acting was great. One of the things that I didn't like were the tombs. The tombs were pretty shitty.

Go in pull your torch out, walk through narrow passage until you can run again. And then you one little shitty ass "puzzle" if you can even call it that. The tombs were bad. Want more complex tombs.

kinda excited, but not really... its over a year and half away from it coming out, and thats not to say it doesn't get "delayed." SO "meh!" until then....

Loved the reboot and this looks like proper next gen graphics, yet probably wont look this good once released as just a show off trailer. Game play was great and fantastic story too. Can't wait for this, Uncharted 4 & Batman - will get PS4 once these are released - sorry XBOX but.....

I think  this will be a great game for xbox and ps4.. Don't port it to pc.

It was a horrible experience for those of us who bought it for pc.

Awesome. I will def buy this game. The re-boot was fantastic, the only downside was lack of new game + mode. Ohhh yeah unlocking the same stuff all over again is not fun. no Sir.

it's funny how gamespot points out no console exclusivity, as if they dumb enough to put out the new Tomb Raider solely on the x box one  .. if it was going to be exclusive to one console it would have been the PS4 instead.. and who wants to bet it will be 720p on x box and 1080p on PS4

Neato.  I'll get excited about this game AFTER I find out when they are going to release the next Hitman.

How the f*ck did she not die or disfigure herself from that ridiculous fall?

"By the end of last year - Tomb Raider is in the black," Amos revealed. "We've crossed the line of profitability for the last-gen and PC versions."

They would be absolutely stupid to not release this on PS3, 360 and PC seeing that's where the bulk of the profit is.

I think it's too early to announce exclusive content. Maybe next year's E3....

Did they say if Square Enix is also doing this one?

LARAAAAAAAA my love !!!!! I am stoked for this game. I am sure it's multiplat on PS4, X1 and PC.

This better not be a Xbox exclusive or Square Enix can go drown with FF13... something like that. I would be playing it PC, but if it was just for Xbox... just how much more wrong could Square do.

Tomb Raider reboot was one of my favorite games from 2013. Can't wait for the sequel! And they already confirmed - it will have LOTS of tombs to explore!

jenovaschilld

@lilflipp Yeah the inclusion of the mini tombs seemed more padding then fully fleshed out ideas, and I also felt the game was kinda short - me and a friend finished it in about 10hrs of playing and that is doing everything we could find and even collecting most everything before finishing the story. (the play till you die rule was in effect.)

Very different then 15+yrs ago when we played Tomb raider in college which took much longer.

While I know the multiplayer was done by another group, the amount of money and resources could have been better put to use in the main game.

@seanwil545  By the end of this year, there should be enough of a base of the new gen, for them to not be concerned with the old gen.

Torquille

@SingletreeAve Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, Camilla Luddington as Lara and Rhianna Pratchett as writer. Same as previous one.

@Vexov If it was Xbox exclusive Microsoft would be trumpeting it from the rooftops.  Since they aren't, it isn't.

@seanwil545 @thekazumalord Dreamcast is still the best because it had Shenmue.

@spartanx169x @seanwil545

That's a prediction and a gamble.

Seriously doubt by then the instal base of PS4 and XBO will be enough to ignore PS3, 360 and PC all together.

krislongknife
krislongknife

@Thanatos2k @Vexov

No ... you will not see many xbo exclusives that micro does not fund and produce.. its being outsould by ps4 and even if it was a 50/50 split the devs would demand micro pay them in proportion to the lost profit

... however it is being outsold which means micro would need to cough up even more money.. they could probably do it and it would be smart but devs also try to keep 2 consoles alive as if theres only one then the console maker has more power over them... currently they could just go to the other maker, if there were one they would be at the mercy of whoever was the sole console publisher

gameroutlawzz
gameroutlawzz

@deadline-zero0 @DeadorRock Probably the latter. Theyd rather focus on more generic hide-and-gun third person gameplay, shallow, linear environment and tombs that consists of a 1 trick ''puzzle'' like you said that most blindfolded monkeys could solve and put all the emphasis on a dull story instead of giving us a true Tomb Raider game.

Prediction yes, However not a gamble at all

Watchdogs sold

PS4 : 1.86

XBO :0.90

Next Gen::2.76m!!!!!!

PS3:0.43

XB360: 0.46

Last Gen: 0.89m

Thats 3+ next gens per each last gen... why should anyone care about the install base if the install base dosnt buy games... hardcore gamers moved on and they are the ones who pay full price for games... other people waiting also have backlogs and dont need games unlike next gen which is in dire straits game wise... Making a game for ps3/xbox360 is fundementally different from ps4 + xbo as they are built different ... Why spend money making 4 version when 2 versions will have far better return ... probably lose money making 4

PC:0.11m (all waiting for steam :/ and they think they dont need consoles... if not us who will fund the games you all expect to get for 5$ or less on steam)

All said ... Next gen or bust ... there will be several million more copies of ps4 to sell on by the time this is released in 2015... Yes next year

deadline-zero0
deadline-zero0

@gameroutlawzz I did liked the game btw, but like i said, i just want a game that's more than that "Uncharted formula" that focuses on story, with some linear shooting parts.

it's just annoying, to me atleast, that even though the tombs where completly optional, so more casual players didn't have to do them, they still where way too easy, with god damm

lighting up mechanics to help them even more.

gameroutlawzz
gameroutlawzz

@jake198624 @gameroutlawzz Every god damn franchises are turning into this, Resident Evil,Dead Space,Uncharted, Tomb Raider,Crap of Us. They ALL have the same dull, shitty linear, scripted and shallow gameplay where platforming is all scripted and impossible to fail,90% of the gameplay consists of pressing X next to a wall to hide behind it then shoot from cover. For a Video GAME industry I feel like outside of Nintendo and a few potent devs GAMEPLAY is now a BIG,big second place and all the damn emphasis is on the f*cking story, dialogues and graphics. Also dont forget the forced A.I. partner for more story plot-holes and hand-holding.

krislongknife
krislongknife

@seanwil545 @krislongknife @spartanx169x

My theory is no last gen

It was always going to be on pc because pc is an easy port

Notice i said "4 version when 2 versions will have far better return"

 Thats PS4/PS3/X360/XOne (4) and PS4/XOne (2)

PS3 and X360 are not easy port like pc... they also have far more limitations ... PC can easily outperform console and thus the port does not need to be weakened to work on it..

PS3/X360 are weaker and will limit what can be done in game or need rebuilds of those versions (like watchdogs where free roam was cut)

You will see a lot of support drop for 360/ps3 this year... hell micro didnt announce 1 360 game and multiplats are in it for the money not supporting old fans
