Tonight during a special event at E3, Nintendo announced Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., a brand-new 3DS game that will launch in 2015. A turn-based strategy game with shooter elements, the game is a co-development between Nintendo and Intelligent Systems (Fire Emblem). Veteran Nintendo role-playing game designer Hitoshi Yamagami is working on Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.

The game was first revealed in April through a trademark filing. S.T.E.A.M. stands for Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace.

In Code Name: S.T.E.A.M, you play as a member of S.T.E.A.M., a group formed by President Lincoln (even though the game is set in London) to fight an enemy force from outer space. Its visual style is described as a combination of steampunk and comic books. Overall, Nintendo describes the game as a "world-spanning adventure game."

The characters in Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. run on steam, and only a limited number are available for you to use for attacks. These characters are inspired by American comics, developers said, as well as artists like Jack Kirby and Bruce Timm.

Some of the alien enemies, including a three-eyed beast called the devastator, are inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, developers said. Another enemy is called a prowler, and is described as "very intelligent" and capable of working in groups to bring you down.
