E3 2014: Devil's Third a Wii U-Exclusive

Tomonobu Itagaki's upcoming action game coming only to Wii U.

Devil's Third, the long-in-development action game from Tomonobu Itagaki and Valhalla Game Studios, is now a Wii U-exclusive. Nintendo announced the news today at E3. The game was revealed in 2010, and was originally intended to be published by the now-defunct THQ for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

After THQ went bankrupt in 2012, the game's fate was left in the balance. However, Itagaki reclaimed the Devil's Third rights from THQ and said late last year that the game was 80 percent complete and on schedule for a release in 2014.

I'm not really interested in this game, but I think it's great Nintendo is adding more variety to an awesome list of exclusives for the Wii U. Even better that this is third party developed.

i think this is not a motivation to buy a wiiu

waiting for 4 or 5 years and then exclusive to a system aim at E or T rated games?!!!!!!

dear nintendo, with all my love to you since my childhood, couldn't you find another title to publish???

@raziel2kain If you were interested in it, this is probably the only way it was going to get published... It also has Bayonetta 2 so it has a decent amount of action games(not many in the market these days).

TBH only the multiplayer looked interesting the rest of this game seems generic...

Welp, I was looking forward to this game until I heard "Wii U only" :/

@dogman7 right...

It probably wasn't getting published till Nintendo bought it... THQ went under and with it most of the smaller IP's went with it.

@dogman7 I never understood people that prefer good games to not be made at all instead of being made for a Nintendo console...

@Foppe @dogman7 Didn't say I don't get made. I just don't have an interest in it anymore since it's for a console I don't plan on buying anytime soon.

Tbh, I was vexed at first sight of the news but after seeing this trailer, I'm not so upset... The game looked way better to me in the original trailer. Idk why Itagaki changed the main character so much, but I'm still glad he got a shot to put the game out.

the game probably was going to sell that much anyway. Now it even going to sell even less on the Wii-U

it ok we still get better exclusives.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I love Itagakis games and was really looking forward to it. But I guess it's as good as cancelled being I'll never get a Wii U. I've been waiting for news on this game forever and am so disappointed that his game is a Wii U exclusive (of all the places).

At least this is some good news for the Nintendo Wii U. The last THQ game of sorts

No comments except that they should hire Vin Diesel to voice that character.

lol at this game !!!

You lying assholes said it was coming to PS3 and 360.

Well, I hope the developers are happy when this game doesn't sell.

Yomigaeru

@DrKill09 It could be the case that Nintendo themselves are publishing the game, and are the only ones willing to do so.

ArabrockermanX

@DrKill09 oh look the guy that has been predicting Nintendo's down fall since the N64 comes in to complain...

News flash, THQ went under and the developers had to find a new publisher.... I'm sure they are happy their game managed to find one considering how small of a market it is aimed at.

Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta collection, and now this? Wii U gets better all the time!

Only on Wii U!

Yomigaeru

@bunchanumbers I wasn't really into the original Bayonetta, but Hyrule Warriors and Devil's Third sound right up my alley. There were quite a few great games in the NDE, but sadly quite a few are 2015 titles.

Splatoon looks like it might be fun, but I hope it isn't online only. Also...who do I have to pay off to get Ori and the Blind Forest onto other consoles?

Printul_Noptii

I am also a big Ninja Gaiden Black fan I also like NG2 and partially can put up with NG3 so I hoped for more stylish action at least on the Xbox or PC.

bummer :( with bayonetta 2 also being an WiiU exclusive these news kinda suck :(

@Printul_Noptii

Right, in the meantime those of us not missing out on games just because of a need to complain that the Wii U has no games, will enjoy them...

Yea we all saw how Ninja Gaiden 3 turned out not to mention Yaiba, this really isn't that big of a coup.

Vodoo
Vodoo

@divinejester  Those games sucked because Itagacki left the developer before they came out to form his own studio. This is his first game on his own. The last Ninja Gaiden game he did was NG2. He's an epic action game developer and I'm so disappointed it's a Wii U game.

Great!

Finally, the Wii-U gets an exclusive specifically created for the average, mostly uneducated joe. Maybe it will sell better then!

WllDan7

I saw the multiplayer and single player demo on ign. And from what I have seen I am in. Especially with that multiplayer. It is nice to have cool games on the wii u. And if people don't like this tough. If third parties supported the machine nintendo would not have to buy the games you may have wanted for other systems. So come in or complain over a game. Seriously so pretend this or bayonetta is like nintendo getting fallout as a exclusive.

spacecadet25

Looks cool, but will it actually be fun to play considering that you have to use Wii U's crappy controller/tablet?

spacecadet25
spacecadet25

@rarerichz @spacecadet25  Dislike of Wii U's gamepad is pretty widespread.  And did you read about that new paint splattering game for Wii U?  You have to tilt the controller to look up and down.

hochstreck
hochstreck

@spacecadet25 @rarerichz

Widespread? Are you aware that remarks like yours, mostly come from people which have never used that controller before?

Your post is a great example on how effective ignorance can reproduce itself.

Hurvl

Just like with the Wii, the Wii U snags a few not-so-family-friendly games (Bayonetta 2 is also Wii U exclusive) to mix it up. Perhaps an odd match, but most gamers are adults after all.

hochstreck

@Hurvl

As the average gamer is either stupid or juvenile, you better create games like this one, Call of Duty, Uncharted, Gears of Wars, etc - if you want your console to sell well.

This is actually a really cool looking game, for the masses.  Maybe Nintendo is actually trying to turn things around, and step out of their comfort zone.

Good for Nintendo!  I haven't said that in a non-sarcastic way since back in the N64 days...

I'm planning on grabbing a Wii U at the end of the year but it certainly won't be for this game.

I think it's going to crash and burn, almost like DNF.

spacecadet25
spacecadet25

@ketsuhige  Weird, this is the only game I'd grab a Wii U for.  Everything else they have I played a previous version back in the 1980's

spacecadet25
spacecadet25

@ketsuhige @spacecadet25  I played the first Bayonetta, a way over-rated monotonous game.  You are right though, I don't think any of the 8 Mario Karts or 9 Mario Golfs games were around in the 80's.

ketsuhige
ketsuhige

@spacecadet25 @ketsuhige LOL. That's hilarious. Does that include Bayonetta 2? Because that's among a short list of Wii U worthy games and I don't thing it was around in the 80's.
