E3 2011: Street Fighter X Tekken crossing to Vita

Capcom bringing crossover fighter to Sony's new portable; Infamous protagonist Cole McGrath to join the fight.

by

LOS ANGELES--Capcom's upcoming crossover fighter is more crossed over than previously thought. At Sony's E3 media briefing today, the company announced Street Fighter X Tekken would arrive for the newly renamed Vita handheld in addition to the previously announced PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. On top of that, the game will feature Infamous protagonist Cole McGrath and his arsenal of electric powers. (Capcom later confirmed that Cole would be appearing in the PS3 version as well.)

Street Fighter X Tekken X Infamous.

Originally announced at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Street Fighter X Tekken is the first of two games that will pit the pugilists of the two famed fighting franchises against one another. Developed by Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken is a 3D game with the action confined to a 2D plane, much as it was in Street Fighter IV. Although the full roster has not yet been revealed, it will feature Street Fighter staples like Ryu, Guile, and Chun Li, as well as Tekken characters like Kazuya, King, and Nina Williams.

Sometime after the launch of that game, Namco Bandai will offer its own take on the crossover with Tekken X Street Fighter. Little is known about that project, which is being overseen by Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada.

@Phil-teh-Pirate I'm in doubt there would be Link, that is without sword/shield. Capcom has wanted weapons tonned down imo. Not like we've seen Rolento/Bryan yet either. But I now realise this is just Vita, so probably no console exclusives.

Not as big news as Kratos in Mortal Kombat but big news nonetheless. Good to see fighters making a comeback, the PS1 was known for fighters, notably Tekken.

Eat your heart out Kratos in MK, THIS is how you sell me the PS3 version of a game :D

This is... a surprising news. And it actually got me interested with the game. Would love to see how Cole fight. Is having popular Playstation characters in fighting games going to be a new trend? :) EDIT: Missed that last bit in the article... "Namco Bandai will offer its own take on the crossover with Tekken X Street Fighter." WTF. So there's going to be 2 versions? Won't they just be cannibalizing themselves?

@KhanhAgE Actually, I used the wrong word in my last message. I meant to say Cole McGrath doesn't fit in Street Fighter X Tekken UNLIKE Kratos in MK, Sonic in Brawl, and Link in Soul Calibur. It was a bad mistake which resulted in me removing the comment. Stupid I know, but it was too late for me to edit my last message. Sorry about that!

Good news. However, I'd like to know why this article is in the Web site's Xbox 360 section.

Although I like Kratos, I didn't like that he was included in MK... And also Cole has no business with Street Fighter X Tekken..(imo)

That dude from Infamous just got a free pass to hang out with the big boys.

It never would have made sense for this game not to come out on the NGP (I really do not like "PSVITA" as a name) and its really not going to make sense if Tekken Tag 2 wont make it to this system. Especially since there were 2 Tekken games on the PSP. I'm buying the NGP (I'm calling it that forever) upon availability! Cannot wait ;)

>nintendoboy16 please to do tell me how Spawn (Original Xbox) and Darth Vader/Yoda fitted into the universe of Soul Calibur? If anything, Coles inclusion makes more sense than the Star Wars characters that were in Soul Calibur IV.

The little extras like this on Sony consoles are pretty nice. The new bundle they showed off at the PC has me wanting to get a PS3 already....

cole looks odd and out of place doesn't look like SF charater or a TEKKEN character. Why not Drake or sly cooper? Cole would probably be cross of Crimson Viper and Ryu i guess.

When they announced this I was really hoping they would say something about cross play between platforms. This game would be huge if that was the case. Hope its being implemented.

@shabulia They do it because it's funny, or just for fun. And if you think tournaments is the only place fighting games get played then apparently the genre is in worse condition than I thought. Don't people have consoles in their houses or something?

wonder what cole's moves are gonna be like?

This WAS good news until they said Infamous' Cole was going to be added to the game. Exclusve characters from entirely different universes don't work well in fighting games. Why does Namco insist on doingthis so much? Spawn, Link, Star Wars Characters and now this?! Cole is not a Tekken fighter nor is he a Street Fighter. This is just lame. He'll fall into the category of "never used characters." Any tournament would never even accept him as a competition plauer because he is an exclusive to Sony. Sorry, I feel this is just a dumb move.

sweet! so im guessing cole will be in the PS3 version as well. id be cool if we could play this at home, then transfer the data to vita so we can play elsewhere
