E3 2011: God of War and Team Ico 3D HD collections arrive in September

[UPDATE] Sony gives Sept. 13 release date for PS3 compilation of Kratos' PSP adventures; Ico and Shadow of the Colossus bundle coming Sept. 27.

LOS ANGELES--Before the annual fourth-quarter blitz of the latest and greatest blockbusters, Sony is giving gamers a chance to revisit some of its past successes with a new HD sheen. At its E3 media briefing today, Sony confirmed September release windows for God of War: Origins Collection and the Team Ico collection on the PlayStation 3.

God of War: Origins Collection rages September 13.

The just-announced God of War: Origins Collection brings together the two PSP installments in Sony's popular god-slaughtering action series: 2008's God of War: Chains of Olympus and 2010's God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Both games will be remastered in high definition with support for 3D displays as well as PlayStation Network trophies. God of War: Origins Collection will launch September 13.

As for the Team Ico collection, it will include the developer's pair of critically acclaimed PlayStation 2 efforts, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Like God of War: Origins Collection, both games will feature high-definition visuals, 3D support, and trophies. In Japan, the bundle will also include a special 100-page booklet about both titles and dynamic custom themes for use on the PlayStation 3 XMB dashboard.

[UPDATE] Sony has now confirmed that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection will arrive on September 27. The two-game pack will retail for $39.99. Each game has been remastered to support 1080p HD resolution, and they also feature full stereoscopic 3D and 7.1 surround sound.

PsP God of War games along with Peace Walker are some of the greatest portable gaming experience, and I'll definitely be getting them remastered in HD.

Coolyfett has heard so many great things about the ICO package. Coolyfett didnt really enjoy the God of War games so much, but Kratos is fun to use.

With news like this, maybe we'll get lucky someday and Square-Enix will release remakes of Chrono Trigger and Xenogears... nah, if they did that they'd end up getting arrested for murder because of all the people's heads they'd make explode with just the announcement. Seriously, though, this is some incredible news and I can't wait for both collections to come out!

@Neolostars - absolutely agree with you on many parts... certainly I think the fixed camera in Ico was done by choice for those reasons and more, I just found it limiting with what I personally prefer. Maybe a choice would have been nice? I adore the God of War series and I find that whilst this also often has fixed cameras, they seem much more dynamic in having the presence to cinematically follow you and point in certain directions when needed instead of you having to manually move them. I'd still welcome a custom camera in GoW too, but then the right stick for rolling in combat would be all used up, so it's understandable why they go with fixed... since I want to try Shadow of the Colossus for the first time, I will have Ico by default too within the same collection, so will definitely give it another try in HD to see if I can get along with it. :)

See, I knew there was no reason to keep my PSP. I'm looking forward to both these releases.

@SicklySunStorm: Some thought that Ico's visuals were blurry and hazy because it was originally planned for PS1. I think, however, the reason was more artistic than technical. Personally, I (and presumably a lot of fans) found the haze and bloom lighting perfectly matches the game's dreamlike, fairy-tale atmosphere. The fixed camera was meant for artistic and technical reason, IMO. One of the reasons the game was so mesmerizing because the environment was so epically massive, and they wanted to convey the unsettling feeling of being trapped alone in this huge, deserted landscape by distancing the camera from the two children and yet, it always follow them around, as if you're watching them from afar (take a look at the Chirico-inspired cover of the Japanese and European version and you'll understand what I mean). It also give a much better view of the large-scale environmental puzzles. And if you love God of War, I'm sure you know what I mean ;) I respect your opinion, though. Hopefully you will give the HD version a chance and find both games a memorable and rewarding experience. :)

The God of War collection is as good as bought and I'll have to take a look at the Team Ico set too.... it might get me thumbed down, but I'll be honest and say I couldn't really get on with Ico for two reasons; the visuals were blurry and hurt my eyes and the fixed camera in whichever area you were in I found very restrictive and annoying. Perhaps I can get over the blurry visuals with a HD version and the fixed camera won't be as bad if the visuals are sharper. I'm sure it's a beautiful game, I just couldn't put up with it and I really tried(!) I still haven't played Shadow of the Colossus, so will very much look forward to giving it a try after all the positive comments I've heard since it's release.

Awesome. I really enjoyed Chains of Olympus but I didn't really care for the single analog feature, so this should be awesome.

I have all God of War games, these included, but a PS3 optimized version with trophies and all sounds too sweet to pass on. Team Ico Collection also much anticipated, I'm currently replaying through Shadow of the Colossus.

Would be nice if their trailer was even in the same ballpark as HD. That looks like garbage, even factoring out video compression. I'm a sucker though, I'll buy it regardless.

I'm not into the handheld scene so this God of war collection works for me, but I own God of war 1-2 on PS2 so I never repurchased. Same thing for Ico and Shadows of the colossus, and Prince of Persia....I already have them in original form. I however may consider getting the team Ico collection only because those games were artistic masterpieces and deserve to be played in their best form I suppose.
