We all knew that Resistance 2 was set to hit the PlayStation 3 this year, but at Sony's E3 press conference, the company revealed that the series would also be hitting the PlayStation Portable. The game, called Resistance Retribution, will be arriving in spring 2009 with development duties falling on Bend Studio.

The E3 trailer explained how the 1951 Chimera assault on East England was fought off only to have the alien forces revolt and overwhelm the whole of Europe. The resistance forces, meanwhile, have begun to reverse-engineer the Chimera technology for their own means.

It was at this point that we got to see the game in action. There was no reveal about who you'll be playing, but the male character is viewed from a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective. We saw the character using rifles and rocket launchers, fighting off Chimera. The end of the video also revealed an enemy about three times bigger than the main character.

Resistance Retribution is being lined up for a spring 2009 release, and the game is being shown off in more depth during E3 2008. We'll have more on the game shortly.
