Disney Interactive has officially announced Tron 2.0, its upcoming sci-fi action game. The game is based on the original Tron film from the early '80s, and it will contain new characters, new locations, and other new elements, including new light cycles designed by Syd Mead, the concept designer for the original film. The game is being built on LithTech's Triton 3D engine, and it will feature a variety of special visual effects inspired by the film.
"For two decades, Walt Disney's Tron has captivated and inspired many in the gaming and CGI community," said Jan Smith, president of Disney Interactive. "Tron 2.0 for PC continues the legacy of the film with a truly unique and engaging story line filled with groundbreaking environments and gameplay that have never been explored before in games."
Tron 2.0 will let players assume the role of Jet Bradley, a young computer programmer on a quest to find his missing father, Alan Bradley, who created the Tron program. To complete the mission, players must investigate a strange and chaotic digital world filled with evil forces determined to take over the world. The game will take players through a series of sci-fi environments including the lab server, the game grid, the personal computer, the power router, the ancient mainframe, the Internet city hub, the infected server, the PDA, the database, and the firewall. Players will have access to a variety of digital weapons, shields, and gadgets, and they will have to contend against deadly programs and dangerous obstacles on their quest to find Alan Bradley.
