E3 2002: ATV Quad Power Racing 2 preshow report

The follow-up to Acclaim's quad-racing game to be unveiled at E3.

ATV Quad Power Racing 2 is the follow-up to Acclaim's PlayStation quad-racing game, and it will be prominently displayed at the publisher's booth at E3 later this week. It's primary improvement over the last game, according to Acclaim, is that it features a roster full of 10 real-life pro ATV drivers, as well as more than 40 sponsorships from quad manufacturers and other relevant brands. Three of the pro riders have been revealed by Acclaim: Dana Creech, Kory Ellis, and Tim Farr. There will be seven others, as well as 10 fantasy riders that the publisher promises will be just as distinctive as the real-life ones.

All the action will take place on 10 tracks, scattered throughout five unrevealed real-world locations. You will reportedly be able to kick and punch at competing riders, and Acclaim has labeled the game's control scheme as "over-the-top." This will presumably facilitate your execution of the game's 20-plus tricks.

ATV Quad Power Racing 2 will also feature split-screen multiplayer modes, with two players possible in the game's PS2 version and up to four possible in the Xbox version. The game will be playable at the show floor this week, so check back for full-on impressions.
