E3 '07: New Wii Trauma Center leads Atlus lineup

Publisher also reveals Touch Detective sequel, pair of DS rhythm-based games set for release later this year.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Last year's Trauma Center: Second Opinion was Atlus' initial foray onto the Nintendo Wii, and it appears the results of that exploratory surgery were positive. Atlus today unveiled its E3 Media and Business Summit lineup of games, headed up by Trauma Center: New Blood for the Wii.

In addition to a new story that introduces characters and operations not seen in the original game, New Blood features a two-player cooperative mode where communication and coordination are necessary to successfully save patients. The game will also have an online leaderboard and spoken dialogue during cutscenes and operations.

Atlus has another sequel on the way in the form of Touch Detective 2 ½ for the Nintendo DS. Picking up in the wake of the first game, players will assume the role of the generally disregarded Mackenzie and attempt to solidify her reputation by solving another case that starts with a series of mysterious thefts. Atlus is promising a lengthier adventure this time around, with twice as many locations, as well as more side quests and unlockables than the original game.

Rounding out the Atlus lineup is a pair of DS rhythm games. Ontamarama asks players to make it through a dozen levels of music-based gameplay, rescuing captive Ontama--"sound spirits"--from tropical islanders under the control of an evil demon. Draglade is a rhythm game that borrows from the fighting game genre with such features as character customization and combo attacks. The game supports online multiplayer battles through the Wi-Fi Connection and local wireless cooperative quests.

Trauma Center: New Blood and Touch Detective 2 ½ are set for release this holiday season in North America, while Ontamarama and Draglade are just confirmed for "fall/winter 2007."

This is a joke, surely. There talking about a sequal and us folks in the UK havnt even had the first one yet! Sort it out Nintendo!

Trauma Centre still isn't out in the UK. No sign of Super Paper Mario either. Utterly disgraceful. If companies don't want me to buy their software, then I won't. It's really taking the p when the sequel to a game is out in the US before the first one has even been released in the UK though.

I can't wait for this game to come out. The DS and Wii games were so much fun. I am especially excited over 2 player mode!

Second Opinion was one of the best launch games for the wii. With all new operations and 2 player co-op I'm sold. My wife is going to flip, it's one of her favorites on the DS and the Wii.

Mossmanxxx : "Why does the wii look like last-gen? and not next-gen.?" -Why does the 360 play like last gen and not next gen? Sony kinda plays like next gen.. well at least it will if it gets any games.

Awesome games from Atlus there. I love Trauma Centre, although I am still waiting for them to release the Wii version here in the UK! It's only been 9 frikkin' months.

Me and my cousin were just talking about how awesome Trauma Center would be with co-op mode. We were so looking forward to it that we tried playing co-op with one of us holding the Nunchuck and one of us holding the wiimote...

it was almost a lauch title it came out a little after the wii first came out. plus it was a lot like the ds version. I liked the ds version (my sister bought it) and so i bought the wii version. it was fun. It's now collecting dust on my shelf. I hope that this one will make me want to put my rubber gloves back on, only if i can do it with a friend. sounds good to me

Trauma Center on Wii was terribly overrated and cumbersome. I hated that piece of garbage.

I'm looking forward to Trauma Center: New Blood. It's nice that it's going to have online capabilities. I look forward to more Wii games with online capabilities.

GODDAMN IT! We don't even have freaking Second Opinion in Australia yet! And now I won't even get it (it's being priced at $100, too, and it was a goddamn US launch title!) now because I'll want to wait (another 2 years, no doubt) for New Blood now.

kdfakldf Please a new Tactics Ogre?? Or a release of Ogre Battle 64 on the Virtual Console??? A new Touch Detective and a new Trauma Center, I'll definitely keep track on those two.

Well this is certainly some very good news. Atlus is one of my favorite publishers as they bring us games from Japan no one else would even bother considering. Now if only they could get around to bringing us Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation on the PS2 here.

Schweet. The new additions to Trauma Center: New Blood sound solid and the notion of a co-op mod for a surgery game sounds very nice. Hopefully this turns out well. ^_^

It says Trauma Center: New Blood is the title in the beginning of the article, but it also says Trauma Center: First Blood is the title at the end. I'm confused. :S

I love Atlus and have been waiting for Persona 3 to be released this month for ages. I agree with everyone who says that TC will be awesome (loved the original) and co-op sounds fantastic, but I definately wish there was some SMT news. I know there's been rumors of a PS3 SMT game but nothing has been said about if it still exists or not for like a year. And even though I know it won't happen, the first SMT is on virtual console in Japan.... come on Atlus, it's a great way to get people to know where the series came from... even if you might face some scrutiny for releasing the original here (the US)

Aww, I was expecting Super Robot Taisen: Original Generations...guess it won't get localized after all. ;_;

GMAN32X > Unfortunately the PW series is under Capcom, not Atlus. I'm pretty sure it will be out soon since you can preorder PW3 in japan right now. Nothing on Ogre Battle? I could have sworn Atlus was coming out with a few new RPGs though...

carpathianrogue

Atlus...Aren't they that company that release RPGs? I hope we'll see new RPGs (not Fable2) for 360/PS3, announced at E3.
