E3 06: SOE details new EverQuest II add-ons

Echoes of Faydwer expansion set for November release; The Fallen Destiny adventure pack to arrive next month.

The ever-expanding world of the massively multiplayer online PC game EverQuest II is about to get a bit bigger. Sony Online Entertainment today announced a pair of upcoming add-ons to the game, one a full-fledged expansion and the other a smaller-scale "adventure pack."

Echoes of Faydwer will be the game's third expansion pack when it is released "on or around November 14." The expansion adds a new playable race to the game, the winged Fae, as well as a new starting city in the Fae's home of Kelethin. Other additions in Echoes of Faydwer include more than 350 new quests, new items and mounts, more than 40 new creature types, and more than 20 new zones and adventure areas. The expansion also sees the return of the achievement system from the Kingdom of Sky expansion, but with additional subclass abilities.

Players unwilling to wait until November for new EverQuest II content can pick up the Fallen Dynasty adventure pack in June. Created in the same manner as previous add-ons like The Bloodline Chronicles and The Splitpaw Saga, The Fallen Dynasty offers encounters meant for high-level players, new weapons, quests, adventure areas, and a design sense that draws on Asian influences.

Echoes of Faydwer will retail for $39.99 when it is released on store shelves and through digital distribution. The Fallen Dynasty will be available only as a download and will cost $7.99. However, customers who have subscribed to SOE's Station Access program for two months or longer will be able to download it for free. EverQuest II is rated T for Teen.

This might persuade me to come back to EQ2. Gonna be tough though since the 3rd Guild Wars Campaign will be coming out around the same time so I might stay with GW. I did get a big letter in the mail yesterday from SOE handing me a free 10 day trial period and trying to lure me back with all the new features they recently added.

What most of you don't understand, is that EQ2 has tons and tons and tons of content. Some in the previous comments suggest they release patches instead of expansion packs. Well they do. Everyday they add something new, every month is a new Live Update which adds expansion quality content such as new spells, quests, areas, mobs, and much much more. They also have a world event every month, which are very fun and full of great content on it's own. These world events usually change the entire EQ2 game and it's amazing to see it evolve. Adventure packs are optional. They always include a lengthy demo of the adventure pack area so youc an try it before buying it. And once you do buy it, it is as in-depth as a new expansion pack might be in other games. I pity those who don't play EQ2, simply because they are missing out on a game truely gifted with amazing developers and great in-depth content. If you've played EQ2 when it first came out, I can garentee you it is not the same game. Give it another shot. www.trialoftheisle.com Note: No, I'm not a Sony representative or anything like that. I think EverQuest 2 is an under-rated game and believe everyone would say the same if they gave it the chance.

I still play EQ2 as my primary MMO. It has a much better community than WoW or Guildwars plus we have seen a large influx of people from WoW who are bored with it because of it's over simplicity. Everquest does take a bit more time to level (as it does have more quests and storylines to follow if you choose to do so). WoW does not get the kind of content that is in Adventure packs for free. They get a dungeon here and a dungeon there (SOE has added around 9 - 10 dungeons for free since launch). SOE is listening to it's players with this expansion. No new level cap, updated content, and a new starting place.

I think it is silly they charge people for the adventure pack. We get that kind of content for free in WoW.

Sony needs to either slow down on the expansions, or make them free patches.

ill be starting up again now that kelethin is coming back. ive been playing EQ1 mainly the past few months. WoW just didnt do anything for me, was too easy and gave a lot for achieving little.

Besides, the third Guild Wars campaign will be coming out right around the same time, and so will The Burning Crusade. Who has time (or money) for multiple MMOs and life? Play the best, I say. Blizzard and ANet for the win.

im palying guild wars and i think id rather not spend the fees to play everquest again (it was horriable when i played it, there was so much lag from older players still using dial-up)
