E3 06: Dead Reefs Preshow Impressions

Dreamcatcher reveals Dead Reefs, a PC mystery adventure game set in the 1700s.

Dreamcatcher announced today that they'll be publishing Dead Reefs, an adventure game from developer Streko Graphics, in October of 2006. While details on the game are currently somewhat spartan, we did manage to wring loose a few plot points from the publisher.

The events of Dead Reefs takes place on an island that was formerly the base for a group of pirates. After luring ships into the dangerous offshore reefs, the pirates would board them, kill the inhabitants, and steal their loot before the ships sank. Unfortunately, their luck ran out when they killed a group of monks, who were transporting an evil relic to a nearby island. When the relic was discovered, it cursed the pirates and the island they inhabited, and since the death of the monks, a periodic madness overcomes the inhabitants, resulting in a murder every nine years. Which, honestly, doesn't sound like much of a curse.

Anyway, a hundred years after the theft of the relic, your character, the investigator Amadeo Finvinero (say that three times fast), arrives on the island with a mission from the king: Discover the source of the curse and do your best to lift it. The game itself is a first-person adventure rendered in 3D, so it presumably won't be your typical point-and-click adventure. We'll have more details on Dead Reefs as it approaches its release date.
