KOEI Corporation has today announced that sales of its Dynasty Warriors series of tactical action games have exceeded 5 million units worldwide. The first Dynasty Warriors game was released for the PlayStation in 1997, with subsequent games in the series all appearing on current-generation consoles.

"The Dynasty Warriors brand intertwines the action and drama of a story based on actual events and forges it into one of the most exhilarating video game experiences in history," said Amos Ip, vice president of sales and marketing at KOEI. "Achieving this sales milestone emphasizes the lasting universal appeal of the Dynasty Warriors saga."

The latest game in the series, Dynasty Warriors 4, was released for the PlayStation 2 earlier this year and is scheduled for release on the Xbox in September. The game debuted at the top of the console sales chart in Japan when it was released there as Shin Sangoku Musou 3 and went on to sell in excess of a million units within nine days of arriving in stores.
