Dying Light: Check Out This Bloody E3 Gameplay Trailer

New trailer shows off the game's parkour and melee mechanics, as well as the day/night cycle.

Warner Bros. today released a new E3 gameplay trailer for Dying Light, the upcoming console and PC open-world zombie game from Dead Island studio Techland. The trailer shows off the game's parkour and gruesome melee mechanics, as well as its day/night cycle. In short, you don't want to go out at night.

The video also suggests that the character you play isn't on-board with all the zombie-killing from the onset. "I'm not a murderer," the character says. Another, more sinister-sounding character, replies, "Of course you are, my friend. In the right circumstances, anyone is."

Dying Light was originally expected to launch in 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. However, Techland last month announced a delay to 2015 so that the studio could improve the game's parkour elements, among other things.

Though Techland won't launch Dying Light until 2015, the studio plans to release a Steam Early Access version of its hack-and-slash dungeon-crawler Hellraid this year, before a full release across PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2015.

Easily my most disappointing delay so far I've been really excited for this game. I love zombie games, I loved the dead island games and this looks like a much better dead island but with what looks like it could be some scares during the night part. Can't wait

I'm glad this isnt like Techland's Dead Island RPG...I had such and issue with the idea of hitting a zombie in the head and instead of brain splattering i see numbers...glad this looks so much better!!

looks to be very fun. dont know why its not on wii u as well. you know how good game pad utilization would be on a game like this. what a wasted effort.

Judging from the clip, I wouldn't put too much stock in that quote unless its a reference to something that wasn't shown (maybe they're talking about raiding another camp). They said the same thing about Tomb Raider and it was a great game but the hesitation about killing didn't last very long.

have they annouced if this game will have co-op? seeing as how dead island games did and hellraid is going to be im sure this one is but i cant remember if they actually said anything.

Dead Island ran like $hit on PS3, but when it ran well my friends and I had a blast. I wont be picking this up until I know it runs fine on PS4.

Is he supposed to have super human abilities? He jumped of a building and 0:38 he just pulled his whole body with one arm movement. xD

Doesn't matter, game looks fun as hell and I want to do all these crazy things. I wanna wall run and smash a zombie on my way down.

I disliked the crap out of Dead Island, but it wasn't so much that the game was horrible as hell, more like it was mediocre with so much promise! I mean the weight in hitting could've been a tad heavier, the story wasn't not partciularly good—definitely nothing like the infamous cgi trailer showed, but that's a different matter—the gunplay was absolutely horrible, shooting against humans was especially horrible, the characters were annoying, and there was no coop.

Sadly, I don't think the coop thing is going to change. Now the other stuff can easily be changed, and the trailer for this gives me a little hope that the problems might've been decreased or the game is just too fun that I shouldn't care. Hopefully, the drive for some actually decent dialogue might be there fully in the game. The action looks great from what I've seen; it looks like there's a good amount of variety with weapons and different attacks. And while I'm skeptical of the parkour aspect, it looks like it's going to add some variety to the gameplay of the game, something that Dead Island could've used.

After last E3, I kind of just ignored this being that it was made by the same people of Dead Island, but I'm looking at this with open eyes, and I really hope they manage to make a killer game. Definitely keeping my eyes peeled for this at E3.

I for once enjoyed both Dead Island, regardless of being sub-par games. Will be paying attention to this one; seems Techland has more funds and resources now for a middle size studio.

this looks like a modified version of Dead Island...

Tone down the gore a bit this game is just gonna encourage kids to kill just like what mass effect did to that one school.

It looks good but like another commentor said...they need more survival horror in zombie games. Killing dozens of zombies at a time really dilutes the excitement after a while. There's no sense of danger.

I want them to put in more animation when you use different types of weapons.

The story is probly gonna be pretty bad with shitty voice acting, but the gameplay looks fun as hell. I'm keen for this game.

I just hope they don't leave out the good crafting, exploring, many weapons, and the customization systems that were in the dead island games.

Such an emphasis on not going out at night and thats the huge thing yet i bet we will be forced again and again to go out at night.

First person parkour with somehow an even lower FOV than Mirror's Edge. Oh yeah, this'll end well.

hmmm I thought this game would be more survival horror...not looking forward to another dead island.

@Thyasianman i still don't know how so many people felt duped by a cinematic trailer. o_o

No co-op in Dead Island? On what planet? The entire game was built around co-op ffs.

@feared4power Man, I totally agree! Video games make people do everything you can do in them so hard dude! They should let us tickle the zombies instead and if you tickle them enough, little kittens and puppies should come out of the zombies and the zombies should be made of cotton and puff in a ball of colorful smoke when they 'go to sleep'. Totally!! That would keep the kids of the world safe from big bad video games!!

Tiwill44

@Gravity_Slave I don't think this particular game was meant to be a true survival horror zombie game, but I agree that there needs to be more polished zombie survival games. It seems like the only ones that exist these days are in Early Access / Kickstarter / Pre-alpha status.

Gravity_Slave
Gravity_Slave

That's a concept these developers are missing everytime. Hacking at a thousand zombies is fun for a little bit but it's the tense stand off with just two zombies and one shotgun shell kind of situations that I miss.

Games like Dead Rising, Dead Island and Left For Dead, although decent games, get old after a while and really take away the sense of urgency due to overkill.

Gravity_Slave
Gravity_Slave

Ya speaking of beta's. I kinda liked the direction DayZ was going. It's still a mess but I liked the feeling of being alone and in constant danger.

Exploration and wandering with tense moments of eery silence. You know you're getting deeper and there's only a couple of bullets left in your gun but you gotta check out that liquor store ahead. They always keep a gun behind the counter!

pongley
pongley

@Warlord_Irochi @pongley Swing and a miss. The issue is that platforming in first person completely failed in Mirror's Edge because the camera was too narrow to have a good sense of where your feet were.

@Gravity_Slave From what I remember the actual game play video seemed to show a little more stealth/survival tone. They could really do this well if the zombie and NPC ai is good. You were powerful face to face but will multiple zombies you had to be smart. At night they were very powerful and smarter than during the daytime. This trailer just seemed to want to draw people in the the intense gory scenes. I really hope this turns out well and balances power with survival.

blacksheperd
blacksheperd

@Gravity_Slave I just don't think they play it enough internally OR they lie to themselves thinking 24/7 hacking and slashing zombies is fun after a week. Honestly I still have hope. The trailer didnt show enough fighting to see whether or not fighting that money at once is smart.

Gravity_Slave
Gravity_Slave

Yes! And I loved it. My only gripe with it was its low budget. I can only imagine how great it would have been on the X1 with a AAA budget. *drool*
