Dust 514 launches May 14

PlayStation-exclusive MMO from Eve Online developer to launch on May 14.

Console MMO Dust 514 will launch on May 14, according to a status update from the game's official Twitter account.

Dust 514 is linked with Eve Online.

The project was first unveiled at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in 2009, and will be CCP Games' first new title since 2003's Eve Online. Exclusive to the PlayStation 3, the game will be linked with the wider Eve Online universe.

The two games were officially connected on January 10 this year, and allowed players of both titles to interact with one another.

Dust 514 will be free to play and utilises a micro-transaction model. For more information on the game, be sure to check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

A bit longer? Sorry but i don't believe that. No free2play game comes with out restriction's. In the end if you wan't a FULL experiance you will stil have to pay to much for stuf you don't wan't but can't do with out. Or you even have to pay to finish the game or something like that.

If dust 514 is realy what you say it is then it's the only F2P game that does not rip people off.

This is going to fail. Absolutely no doubt. I don't see any chance anyone is going to choose this over all the others FPS out there. It's super complicated and technically underwhelming. I thought it looked interesting but the beta really pissed me off.

I love the concept... unfortunately, the execution feels flawed from my time in the beta.

I love the concept of this paired to eve, but why did they have to use two of the most facepalmingly boring genres in the industry? Yet another bland, indistinct fps; paired up with a glorified accounting simulator?

Dust 514 is honestly one of the worst shooters I've played, I keep trying with it because I love the idea behind it, but the gameplay just baffles me. I have no idea what I'm meant to be doing, the upgrade system is completely over my head, and once you finally get on the battlefield, I'm general slowly marching around with no contact to team mates until getting shot by an enemy I've never even seen.

I know a certain amount of this is my fault as a gamer, but this game makes no sense!

Finally! The beta version is good and all, but it's got way too many glitches and stuttering issues. The environments are fine and the combat works like a charm, but could still use some polish. Can't wait for the finished product :)

Finally!, i may be able to play this game without any stutters and glitches..

The Dust keynote was awesome! :D

Game is not an MMO and is free BUT pay to win.

Ready your wallet if you want to stand a chance.

Played the open beta for a while and then got bored of it; hopefully this open realse will breath some life back into the game for me.

Finally! Downloaded the open beta and stopped playing after two day because it was so rubbish. Needed a lot of work back then and got board of pointless, enclosed deathmatched with no connection to the wider galaxy.

I wasn't a big fan of the beta but I mean, the game's free so, I'll probably give it another chance.

What people need to realize about this game is that CCP aren't aiming for a big launch, they aren't going to make this game and then do a couple of patches and thats it.

They intend to keep adding patches and expansions to it (For free) Forever.  From what i've seen Uprising is a compltely different game from the Beta we have been playing so far and it will just keep on expanding and getting bigger and bigger

(CCP even want to let dust Mercs capable of boarding titans and supercarriers (Owned by eve players) in the future..  They are MAAAAAAAAAD)

Played the beta for a bit; the idea appealed, the execution not so much.

I will try it. Just for the sake of being a space opera fan.

I've been in the beta since May of last year, and I can say although CCP failed on numerous stuff during the beta, this next build and release, certainly makes up for it. From what I've seen, Uprising looks brilliant, and CCP's road map is promising.

The game CAN be played free. You don't have to buy anything in it with real money. Real money items gets you stuff earlier, THAT'S IT. Maybe some cosmetic items later on, but everything in the game is free.

It's more than just a FPS. Your battles mean something now. Not just play a public game, and that's it. Your battles affects EVE Universe. It's a fun game when played with a corp / clan. Coming from someone who likes competitive games, playing DUST against other competitive gamers is the most fun I've had in YEARS!

My corp has played over 60 corp battles. When we played BF3 as a platoon we were lucky to get 30 matches in a year. It's pathetic. We've played more competitive games in a beta, than we did in a full retail game. Now that fights mean more in DUST, i expect even more fun to be had.

People that write this game off based on beta gameplay or from what they heard are missing out. Trust me. Download the game May 6th, when the new build comes out, join a corp, and see for yourselves. If you're tired of pub games over and over, give this game a try, and feel like you're making a difference.

We are talking about a F2P FPS in a console and that console is the PS3 which, correct me if im wrong, is considered a difficult platform to develop games on. Thats one thing, what can be said about the demographic? It is 100% certain that PC has a larger demographic for dust than PS3, and I mean by far larger. So CCP, why PS3? It is certainly not something innovative and you are bound not to make the same amount of money as in PC.

Don't anyone get any Ideas. I got both a PC and a PS3. I'm not biased.

Eve is really doing some amazing things. What I love is unlike most MMO's Eve is actually getting better and changing in meaningful ways over time. The player base shows this as well. A decade on and it's still growing in population.

It's funny... the core of Eve doesn't really appeal to me but overtime it just might. It's not out of the question that one day it'll feature something for everyone.

I played one day of the beta and was like this sucks, it looks bland, the combat is boring and it's all PVP....

Compared to Defiance, Defiance is PVP and PVE, looks more lively for what it is...because graphically.....not that impressive overall but the combat even with it's issues is more enjoyable and I like the feel of progression in Defiance, even if I didn't gain a level in a mission I gained a new item or weapon...IDK call me petty but I kinda like the feeling that I'm doing something or that I'm getting something out of playing the game.....

IDK in a sea of FPS games it would have been interesting to see a flight sim....

Eve fucking sucks.  It's a game fat nerds with no life play.

I'm really eager to see how this plays out, and how it will interact with EVE Online. The whole driving concept behind the EVE Universe is "money is power" and they said that really wanted to emphasize that (requisition resources costs ISK in EVE etc.) but at the same time, it's not very fun to get annihilated in an FPS simply cuz you don't have as much funds supporting you as the other team.

Definitely keeping an eye on this though. I don't mind it being freemium because it's connected to EVE Online, so it's more like paying 1 subscription to play entwined MMOs.

WingChopMasta

MMO FPS just dont seem that appealing. Defiance got boring really quickly and looked far more put together with an MMO feel than this game does. It looks like an old BF style FPS. The game looks pretty bland.

Maybe I am just judging it because I am sick to death of shooters but I do want to see more traditional MMO's on a console for sure and I do like to see Sony testing the free to play model on the console.

Nice. I've been playing the open beta for over a month, and have not spent a single penny (even though I had the urge to splurge). The beta is not pay-to-win, and the game won't suddenly become pay-to-win when it releases.

A freemium MMO? Eh, not exactly a good sign.

Also, it's a bit odd to come out with a console specific MMO so close to the next gen coming out. I wonder why they'd release it now?
