Dust 514 launches May 14

PlayStation-exclusive MMO from Eve Online developer to launch on May 14.

Console MMO Dust 514 will launch on May 14, according to a status update from the game's official Twitter account.

Dust 514 is linked with Eve Online.

The project was first unveiled at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in 2009, and will be CCP Games' first new title since 2003's Eve Online. Exclusive to the PlayStation 3, the game will be linked with the wider Eve Online universe.

The two games were officially connected on January 10 this year, and allowed players of both titles to interact with one another.

Dust 514 will be free to play and utilises a micro-transaction model. For more information on the game, be sure to check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

A bit longer? Sorry but i don't believe that. No free2play game comes with out restriction's. In the end if you wan't a FULL experiance you will stil have to pay to much for stuf you don't wan't but can't do with out. Or you even have to pay to finish the game or something like that.

If dust 514 is realy what you say it is then it's the only F2P game that does not rip people off.

This is going to fail. Absolutely no doubt. I don't see any chance anyone is going to choose this over all the others FPS out there. It's super complicated and technically underwhelming. I thought it looked interesting but the beta really pissed me off.

I love the concept... unfortunately, the execution feels flawed from my time in the beta.

I love the concept of this paired to eve, but why did they have to use two of the most facepalmingly boring genres in the industry? Yet another bland, indistinct fps; paired up with a glorified accounting simulator?

Dust 514 is honestly one of the worst shooters I've played, I keep trying with it because I love the idea behind it, but the gameplay just baffles me. I have no idea what I'm meant to be doing, the upgrade system is completely over my head, and once you finally get on the battlefield, I'm general slowly marching around with no contact to team mates until getting shot by an enemy I've never even seen.

I know a certain amount of this is my fault as a gamer, but this game makes no sense!

Finally! The beta version is good and all, but it's got way too many glitches and stuttering issues. The environments are fine and the combat works like a charm, but could still use some polish. Can't wait for the finished product :)

Finally!, i may be able to play this game without any stutters and glitches..

The Dust keynote was awesome! :D

Game is not an MMO and is free BUT pay to win.

Played the open beta for a while and then got bored of it; hopefully this open realse will breath some life back into the game for me.

Finally! Downloaded the open beta and stopped playing after two day because it was so rubbish. Needed a lot of work back then and got board of pointless, enclosed deathmatched with no connection to the wider galaxy.

I wasn't a big fan of the beta but I mean, the game's free so, I'll probably give it another chance.

I tried the beta awhile back and was not all that impressed. But I spent far to much time on my xbox back then...fast forward to today and that dead xbox in the on my desk...my 9th one....so umm....I'll be giving Dust another go come May 14th.

What people need to realize about this game is that CCP aren't aiming for a big launch, they aren't going to make this game and then do a couple of patches and thats it.

They intend to keep adding patches and expansions to it (For free) Forever.  From what i've seen Uprising is a compltely different game from the Beta we have been playing so far and it will just keep on expanding and getting bigger and bigger

(CCP even want to let dust Mercs capable of boarding titans and supercarriers (Owned by eve players) in the future..  They are MAAAAAAAAAD)

Played the beta for a bit; the idea appealed, the execution not so much.

I will try it. Just for the sake of being a space opera fan.

I've been in the beta since May of last year, and I can say although CCP failed on numerous stuff during the beta, this next build and release, certainly makes up for it. From what I've seen, Uprising looks brilliant, and CCP's road map is promising.

The game CAN be played free. You don't have to buy anything in it with real money. Real money items gets you stuff earlier, THAT'S IT. Maybe some cosmetic items later on, but everything in the game is free.

It's more than just a FPS. Your battles mean something now. Not just play a public game, and that's it. Your battles affects EVE Universe. It's a fun game when played with a corp / clan. Coming from someone who likes competitive games, playing DUST against other competitive gamers is the most fun I've had in YEARS!

My corp has played over 60 corp battles. When we played BF3 as a platoon we were lucky to get 30 matches in a year. It's pathetic. We've played more competitive games in a beta, than we did in a full retail game. Now that fights mean more in DUST, i expect even more fun to be had.

People that write this game off based on beta gameplay or from what they heard are missing out. Trust me. Download the game May 6th, when the new build comes out, join a corp, and see for yourselves. If you're tired of pub games over and over, give this game a try, and feel like you're making a difference.

@DeKuip Just from my time playing it it really does not feel like you cannot compete without paying for stuff.

@HapiJoel

You make no sense because you dont know how to navigate a menu or an upgrade system :/ for the thousands times over again!, you were playing a fucking beta!!.

Not the actual release itself!, learn to how look and read!.. The Actual Dust 514 game is coming out May 14. And if you dont like the pace of the game?, then jump back on the COD bandwagon.

@EddyG0RD0 Dust is not pay to win, you gain no statistical advantage over your opponent.

glassesboy

@EddyG0RD0 lol...another person going of hearsay. P2W? No. There's been many threads on DUST forums arguing this, and I've yet to see one where I agree with. I'm one of the most cynical people on the forum, and was very critical of CCP, but P2W? I don't see it.

You pay to get Skill Points boosters... paying to win? Not really. I'm better than most people who have more SP than me. You pay for weapons you get in a higher tier while not being skilled into it. You can get those weapons if you play a little longer.

Please, tell us, how exactly is DUST 514 is P2W.

@odcrl How is that huge? lol George bush stumbled well speaking "Sweet mercy think of the children!"

Further more the "his wife looked at him" she was already looking at him cause he was talking..... and "he said 9/11 was a conspiracy" he say's "con..." well talking about the Boston marathon bombing.... even if he was about to say conspiracy sounded like he meant "I hope people don't think this is a conspiracy like they always do..." kinda comment.

Plz find more facts before you make outlandish claims or post videos on them in the future.

@Dantology yeah i owned a Xbox once and about 7 other times don't have a working one now lol

Good think it only took 14 phone calls that had to be made during work breaks(cause that's the only time there offices are open....)  and 5 kinds of I.D. for me to end my Xbox live subscription, would have been easier to report my credit-card stolen......

My PS3? bought it day 1 still works fine happy too since mine still plays PS1 and PS2 games which i guess the new ones don't.

@jasonlee22 @glassesboy it was CCP that rejected M$ , M£ wanted a share of those AURUM profits and CCP is like M$ , GREEDY , so they didnt agree

david1230
david1230

@jasonlee22 @glassesboy microsoft rejected it because they didn't want a 3rd party company having access to their database, but yet microsoft not xbox allows all devs access to their severs for mircosoft on pc but won't because they know they would be eventually hacked just as hard as the ps3 was.

@glassesboy Ok but what if we dont play EVE or care about it's universe? Eve is one of the most niche intimidating MMO ever made why would they think a bland shooter in the same universe would appeal to console gamers that like shooters? You are gonna need more incentive than "It helps a world in an mmo maybe one person your friend met once plays"

If the FPS portion of it sucks and it plays out like better shooters already do, it will fail. No one really cares who else it helps out, they want to play it because it is fun for them.

This looks like a bad version of Section 8 mixed with frontlines.

arc_salvo
arc_salvo

@glassesboy @HapiJoel Actually, if everyone feels that way, that is good logic.  User experience is one of the key points of a game.  IT has to be accessible and fun to a wide audience, otherwise it probably means that your controls are bad.

This game has said that he's played many shooters.  If he's not a newcomer to shooters and he can't figure this game out, that should be a reason to be concerned for the developer.  Plus, it's coming out in a few months this year.

Still have my old 80 gb model. I replaced the hard drive with a common 500 gb sata hd, which took only 10 minutes for a novice like me, so easy with the old models. They may be big and ugly but there very reliable.

@WingChopMasta @glassesboy Bland shooter?, Dust 514 is alot more than just a bland shooter, its about owning property and Corporations that hire you for a mission..

Ragmon88

@WingChopMasta @glassesboy Let me explain what CCP is doing. By creating an F2P FPS, which is tied to another game which is P2P, they are creating a gateway for other people, who other wise would never look at EVE let alone try it. This way players of Dust have reason to try out EVE, now they have some form of investment in EVE, that way CCP can have more subscribed player, who would other wise never even try EVE.

PS: EVE now has a nice tutorial that eases you into the game...now its a bit more newbie friendly.

Arcturuss
Arcturuss

@WingChopMasta @glassesboy You're not HELPING some eve guys

You are doing things for yourself in the same universe.  Owning stuff, taking over systems and so forth.  CCP are a bunch of ambitious mad men

Lol, i think you should grow up, and learn how to navigate a menu..

Zoza24

@HapiJoel @glassesboy @arc_salvo  You buy the skill first and then upgrade a certant part of that skill before you actually see the difference.. Your not doing well with the navigation trough the skill list as it seems, Fail!!.

And if you think a beta cant change into something alot more improved?, then stay away from F2P games.. (Even a PC gamer knows that a fuck load better than many console gamers.)

HapiJoel
HapiJoel

@glassesboy @arc_salvo Ive never played EVE but I love reading the stories, hence why I was excited to play DUST.

But the skill tree doesn't make sense to me, I pay ISK to upgrade but still dont access to the skills, or cant upgrade because the suit wont allow me, and I cant find anything in game to explain that.

On top of that, the actual handling is pretty sluggish, I'm not really a fan of COD but at least its more responsive than DUST as is right now.

People keep yelling "its a beta!" but how much do you really think they'll change in the final?

glassesboy
glassesboy

@arc_salvo ever played EVE? Nothing about is accesible. I understand it's a different market, but 500k subs to a game that's as complicated as it comes should say something.

People act like looking and understanding what's going on in games is rocket science. Yeah there's a skill tree, read and you'll see what does what.

Yea there's objectives in the game, not hard to put 2+2 together. Gamers these days are so used to devs holding their hands, and people wonder why games are so dumbed down.
