With next month's DS releases of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl supporting online voice chat between players, Nintendo today confirmed that it would produce a new headset for its portable system that would facilitate that feature.
While a Nintendo representative would only confirm the headset as being released roughly alongside the new Pokemon games, the online store of retailer GameStop has a product listing for the headset specifying an April 23 shipping date with a $14.99 price tag. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are both expected to ship April 22.

Hah! Cool, I'm so getting this! I got some friends all over the place, and talking to em like this would be cool! Sure, the DS got a built-in mic alrdy, but it doesnt seem to have the highest quality around. I also saw a video clip where they talked with this and it sounded really good! And I highly doubt that Pokemon will be the only game where this will come in handy. Oh, and someone mentioned something about Nintendo doing this for more profit or anything. Well, I can just say that Nintendo have always got the best games around for the best prices there is. Selling some accessories like this for a small amount of money doesnt bother me a bit. I so much prefer to have it this way than to buy a PSP for example (which costs so much more and have loads of things you can do which I wouldnt ever bother looking into).

You guys do know that the DS has a built in microphone, dont sweat over having to buy this thing, the game is fully compatible with the microphone, and the speakers the DS already has.
cant we just use a normal phone one and doesnt the DS havea built in one.While can we just ue a normal headset from a phone they dont realy need this wow we get to talk to stranger now but I might get it so i can talk to my friends.but still y cant they just use the one built in the DS GOD DAMN

I already bought the one thats out already, It was only 10 bucks and it works really well!!!! I recomend it!

I've been using a pair of headphones (not a headset, but I've got the speaker part already covered) that are so old I've had to tape new foam (I cut out squares from the foam a motherboard I recently used - EVGA 680i - came packaged on top of; makeshift to the max!) over the speakers.

i also agree with billbob7897. If a lot of games star having voice chat all of a sudden. Of course i'll get this. Well i am getting Pokemon Diamond so, hey it might come in handy. But also i would like there to be a shooter for the DS coming out soon that uses the headset. Something like Gears of War.. because the voice chat in that is awesome. billybob7897, I totally agree. If, games all of a sudden start to get voice chat and a hella lot of them, I will likely buy. But MPH only has lobby chat now, and it just doesn't seem like Nintendo. Games are still likely to only have supports with friends. Because strangers might vocally hurt you :(
the good thing about this is you wont have to yell at your screen. that's what I had to do when I demo'd brain age. (it still got my words wrong)

I don't plan on buying it yet because I don't plan on getting Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. I wish they would really innovate the series instead of just adding a million pokemon and a few features every game. But if I ever get a DS game that's heavy on voice chat, I'm happy there's a headset option avaliable to me (and I'm glad it's wired because that means it will cost less money)
The DS has a built in mic and speakers...why the F*CK would I go spend 15 bucks to get a headset when everything I need for voice chat is already built in?

I'm really startying to want a DS, especially with Wi-Fi and the wireless connectivity between it and the Wii... And online chat between gamers with it just makes it that much more awesome.
man i wish it was wireless oh well.i probably wont get pokemon till late this year i hope theres a wireless by then.
