DS download stations take off at Atlanta airport

Delta Air Lines offers free playable demos including Brain Age, Elite Beat Agents, and Clubhouse Games to its customers.

Many businesspeople and tourists use handhelds to pass the time during their journeys. And now, travellers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport can download interactive demos for their Nintendo DS handheld while they're waiting for their plane. There are six units in the Delta Air Lines terminal, and users wishing to download the games simply stand with their DS within "a few feet" of one of the download stations and follow onscreen instructions.

The company plans to roll out the service at other airports over the coming months--the games available will also be periodically updated, although Delta had not got back to GameSpot with more details as of press time.

You have to remember that the DS's core demographic appears to be former non-gamers. These are people who probably got their DS at Best Buy or Wal-Mart, not EB GameStop. They also may not be in the habit of carrying their DS with them on a shopping excursion, where they could use an in-store Download Station. Airports are a great non-retail location for these devices, which I think is why this is a big deal: it's the first location outside of a retail store.

I've been there before. Sounds pretty neat.

Hopefully the next time I travel, it will be in all airports ;)

Ugh, that airport's a pain if you're there for a layover. You've got to allot yourself at least 45 minutes since, without fail, your connecting flight will be on the other end of the place. Beats the heck out of LaGuardia in NYC. Probably the worst airport I've ever been to. Regardless, don't they have these DL stations in Gamestops? I see the point here... ATL is one of the busiest airports in the South and they'll get a lot of people to use it, but I don't see why people are making a big deal about this.

they ARE in retails and in malls :) wether you realize it or not, best buy, gamestop and other locations have DS Download stations. What I want to know is when the DS will communicate with the Wii to do the same thing?

This is a great step for Nintendo (Sony take note) but with all the security in airports these days, getting to one of these things will be nearly impossible unless you've got a $200+ plane ticket. These things should be in malls or retail outlets or (here's a crazy idea) in a gaming store.

now why couldn't all airlines do this.. It would have made my trip to London last August so much better.. As I hate flying and this would have given me something to do.. As I didn't take my DS out of my bag until after I landed and had to sit there for 8 hours waiting on my luggage when there was huge delays..

they should do this at more major airports, and move to smaller ones too. last summer i used my ds alot at the airport.

According to Delta's website, the six units are located on Concourses A, B and T. These concourses serve the vast majority of Delta's flights out of Hartsfield Airport. The article does not say where in said concourses the Download Stations are located, however. To view the press release, go to www.delta.com, click on "News & Promotions" in the lower-right corner of the homepage, and it will be the second story down. Look for "Game On!" in the title.

I've always wanted to try out the DS Download Station feature. And I won't be able to try it via airport due to fear of flying. I'll try it at my nearest EB games though.
