Infogrames has announced the release of Driver 2 for the Sony PlayStation. Leading up to launch, preorders for the game have exceeded 1.2 million units. Driver 2 again features Tanner, the undercover cop whose mission is to infiltrate and break up the mob by posing as undercover "wheelman." New features include a two-player mode, more vehicles, the ability to abandon a car and commandeer other vehicles, and larger cityscapes.

"The success and worldwide appeal of the Driver franchise continues to grow and has become one of the most widely recognizable and best-selling properties in the interactive entertainment industry," said Martin Currie, director of marketing for Infogrames. "As we head into the key holiday selling season, we hope to continue that success as elements of our multimillion dollar marketing campaign come to bear."

Driver 2 carries a suggested retail price of US$49.95.
