Driver 3, Deer Hunter mobilized for mobile

Sorrent to bring two classic titles--one hardcore, one casual--to the wireless beat.

Sorrent, publishers of the Fox Sports mobile game series, hosted an E3 press luncheon yesterday in the Staples Center’s Fox Sports bar. Its upcoming mobile version of Driver 3 was playable in beta form; however, Sorrent’s major announcement was its global licensing of Atari’s Deer Hunter franchise. Sorrent plans to release a mobile version of Deer Hunter in conjunction with Atari’s launch of Deer Hunter 2005 for the PC.

Greg Ballard, Sorrent’s president and CEO, said that “Deer Hunter…is exactly the kind of title that will appeal to today’s mobile gamer,” elaborating that the game will “appeal to both casual and core gamers, offering the serenity of world-class hunting locations and the rush of the hunt.”

Justin Kubiak, Sorrent’s product manager, sees these upcoming titles as representative of a new level of quality for Sorrent. He credited the newly hired vice president of production, Robert Nashak, as the reason for this qualitative leap, commenting that Nashak has “revamped our project process.”

Nubiak touted the mobile version of Driver 3 as revolutionary--both for its resemblance to its console big brother and for its epic scale: “The thing that is unique about this game is the inclusion of three distinct maps modeled on their respective cities. These things are huge. The streets are tortuous, and the cities are sprawling. It’s possible to get lost.”
