DreamCatcher Games has today announced that it will publish the Xbox version of Painkiller in the second quarter of 2004. The game, which is being developed by People Can Fly, is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of a guy named Daniel Garner, who was recently killed in a car accident. Upon discovering that the gates to heaven are closed to him, he becomes embroiled in a war between heaven and hell and is enlisted to do battle against all manner of demonic enemies.

"We are really excited about Painkiller coming to the Xbox," said Richard Wah Kan, DreamCatcher Games' CEO. "Xbox is a true hard-core powerhouse, and it's got all the muscle needed to run a game like Painkiller."

The Xbox version of Painkiller is currently scheduled for release in the second quarter of next year, shortly after the PC version, which is due in March. For more information on Painkiller, check out our previous coverage of the game.
