Drawsome Tablet coming to Wii in December

Ubisoft bringing its own $60 drawing peripheral to Nintendo's console; Smurfs featured in bundled software.

Ubisoft is about to expand its peripheral business on the Wii with a new tablet device. Set to hit store shelves on December 6, the Drawsome Tablet features an 8.5-inch screen that accepts input from a provided, child-friendly stylus.

Drawsome will support tracing.

The device will compete against THQ's uDraw GameTablet, but it offers its own set of unique features. In addition to free-form drawing, the peripheral will support tracing as the tablet's screen features a translucent layer that can display reference images. SD card functionality will also allow sharing of artistic works.

Two games will come in the Drawsome Tablet package: Drawsome Artist and Drawsome Sketch Quest. Artist will feature the Smurfs and will allow players to draw, paint, or sketch on their own or learn advanced techniques via step-by-step guides. Sketch Quest will have players helping animals navigate races by drawing various objects in the world.

No pricing details have been revealed regarding Ubisoft's family-oriented peripheral, but it is currently available for preorder on Amazon for $59.99.

@CammiTac The name Udraw is better than Drawsome IMO.

@megakick : For someone who claims to hate the wii-u so much you sure do seem to talk about it a lot....

@CammiTac Drawsome is quite possibly the best name ever!! :D All I could come up with was F-art pad and Doodle-Fail. Legendary.

I just thought of something awesome inspired by the Wii-U controller. Flipnote studios on the Wii U. Nintendo wouldn't do it through this peripheral, especially with the Wii preparing to sail off into the wild blue yonder,so we'd have to wait until the Wii-U.But it would be awesome. I also really hope they put it on the 3DS. Flipnote for the win!

No one has anything to say about the name, "Drawsome?"

Remember when the Wii came out other third party companies released god knows how many peripherals and what not to cash in the success of the Wii. Well it seems good old Ubisoft is trying to cash in on the Wii- U even before it hits the market!!!!!!

I will stick with Inchworm Animation for my 3DS.

@Icehearted : Overall it is apples and oranges...the wii-u controller makes this look like a discount bin item (which doesn't take much to begin with)..but the main offense I think everyone is seeing here is this effort to try to cash in on a cheap hype-builder of the wii-u (mainly a peripheral with drawing capabilities) ..I would 10X's rather see Ubisoft develop something for the wii-u like Assassin's Creed etc. instead of trying to shove in a half-baked insult (imo) to the wii.The wii had a pretty good run...it is about to hit the Skyward Sword milestone..I say that Ubisoft let it live out its last couple months in peace without trying to compete with a product (udraw tablet) that isn't worth competing with anyways.
Not a good move for ubisoft...noone will spend $60 for an extremely dumbed down version (and I mean EXTREMELY) of what gamers will be getting next year...and how many GOOD games have we seen the uDraw in? Do you think that this will be any different?? I highly doubt it.....
Technically it's practically apples and oranges, but I agree with you. This is a really odd thing to do this far into Wii's lifespan. I was under the impression the WiiU was going to be hugely different than this though.

I miss the days when I used to only press buttons to play cool games :_(

This actually proves that more and more gaming companies are interested in the Wii U IMO.And it seems to me like Ubisoft is trying to fight THQ's Udraw.

The Wii was dead on arrival when it came to games, just a handful of good titles on it, mostly their old usual franchises, now it's just about to get buried when they launch the Wii U next year. I don't really know if any hardcore gamers will be attracted to it , it has a giant pad like controller and if not the alternative is the already lame Wii controller , and i doubt it will have any core titles that won't be available for the other major platforms. :| This, well, what's the point really?

It's a shame to know when something is going to be completely dead on arrival. I have a Wacom tablet that I use A LOT, so I like this idea, but this thing just has absolutely no chance.

This maybe one of the worst ideas since the go. The wii is all but a dead system, with the new Zelda its last hurrah, and I have no idea what ubisoft is thinking.

Nice! As a tablet artist it is great to see digital painting made easily available. it's also nice to see that the market is actually growing. (As far as I know) the uDraw tablet and software has done pretty well for a peripheral interface. On a side note it is a good sign for the success of the WiiU.
