Dragon's Dogma global shipments top 1 million

Capcom reveals plans to develop its original fantasy role-playing game into a major franchise.

by

Worldwide shipments of Dragon's Dogma for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have crossed the 1 million mark, Capcom announced today.

Capcom is planning to build more Dragon's Dogma.

According to Capcom, Dragon's Dogma is the publisher's 55th title to top the 1 million shipping mark. Based on the game's first-week sales of 300,000 units for the PlayStation 3 version, released on May 21, the company is planning on developing the brand into a major franchise. The Xbox 360 version sold 29,024 during its debut week, as well. The game was the highest-selling title in Japan in the month of May, even with just a week's worth of sales.

Dragon's Dogma generated positive reviews. The RPG was praised for its combat and boss fights, but was criticized for its backtracking elements and quest events. For more information, check out GameSpot's video review below.

I really like Dragon's Dogma. it an KoA: Reckoning have to be 2 of the best games in their category that's been released in a while.  My only wish is that they would make it possible for Multiplayer. I'm not saying "let's get 4-8 players," or anything nlike that. but more of "online Co-op." 2 players an their pawns," still keeping max characters in play at the 4 limit." cuz i love the game an all, but sometimes i would like to have another thinking ally. cuz i've hired mages for example, then battled creatures that the mage would tell me they're weak against fire, "which usually we players know most times." but then while we fight the creature, the mage will give everyone ice enchants. idk about everyone else, but if i know somethings gonna take more dmg from something im not wanting the opposite. I know ppl don't like playing co-op, but me an most ppl i play any games with agree it would be nice to have the option. Two Worlds sucked,"mainly all the text  being hard to read, an the controls are stiff." but it still offers a choice of multplayer, as well as Kingdom of Fire: Circle of Doom, an these are older games.

I'd like to see more environments in the sequel like sea, sand, snow. Imagine your at sea and one of your pawns yells out "kraken", and it can grab you with it's tentacles and you can cut them off. Some rain would be cool too.

I'd like to be able to have the option to rent myself out in the next version, play as a mercenary and would be totally happy with the Demon/Dark Souls approach of no mic. It would just be fun to be hired by people or have a little chance to play directly with others. Please don't lose the animations and the climbing on creatures aspect. I love the fact in this game that aiming at specific spots on a targets body has dynamic effects ( I play as an archer in most games, this one included). Shooting an eye blinds it, knees drop it, face shots hit hard, armor can be shot off, etc. Please develope more on these great aspects of combat. And PLEASE streamline the menus.

Oh and: The bigger the world, the better.

Yaaay, major franchise ftw!

the thing i wish they could add/change in the sequel is

-More variety of quests

-More monsters, more big ones too :D

-More classes

-Bigger world

-More classes

-Fast travelling between town in early game

-Stats distribution, stats leveling up with classes is just hard for me to change from one class to another.

-Multiplayer(optional) it can be fun to travel along and fight big monsters with your friends like Souls game.

Yes, I love Dragon's Dogma and would love to see more. The DLCs, however, I can live without. I hope you've learnt your lesson and really serious about changing your stance on DLCs, Capcom. Your new IP has taken off quite well, let's not kill it with unnecessary greed, shall we?

This one was probably the "sleeper" of the month for titles released in May, especially since this one had to contend w/ the releases of Max Payne 3, Diablo 3, TERA, & others.  It's a surprisingly good game, and while the backtracking & quest elements did have their low spots, the combat & customization make up for it.  So if Capcom is looking to turn this into a major franchise, then there's room for improvement for the sequel.

I'm really enjoying the game.  Had to go to 3 stores to find a copy for 360, both of my town's Gamestops were out of them.  I'm definitely getting any future games set in this universe.

Got Dragons Dogma and I loved it, very fun game with quite a few classes to switch between, fun combat, some fantasy beasts to slay and with the Berserk armour (Griffith and Guts armour) that sealed the deal and I run around looking like Griffith all day long.

It's shocking to see how little it sold on the 360 and i would have bought it on 360 if it wasn't for my GF wanting to play it too I'd have got it on 360 but oh well. When you get into new game + or after the main dragon boss fight it's pretty fun.

I'm not touching it with a smelly stick merely because of Capcom's horrible DLC policy... already on the disk? Screw you guys. There are already so many "additional" items on Xbox Live to get the lot would already set up back 1,600 points... milking the consumer or what.

The combat system in DD will change action RPG forever, but the game has a flaw I can't stand...

I lost counts on how many times I threw my pawns off the cliff because they won't shut the $*(@ up.

This game was awesome i've put more than 120 hours on it.

But i bet 10$ bucks that capcom will try to "improve" and will end fu**ing the game up.

Just like BioWare did with Dragon Age.

the pretty blatant Cashcom day 1 DLC aside  Capcom deserves the sucess of this game. its a great RPG and hopefully the beginning of a new franchise.

but yea the way Capcom handles DLC just leaves me feeling dirty and used.

If you would like to adventure with Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Mother of Dragons and true Queen of Westeros and need a mage then my pawn is for you. My psn is Rasputin177 she is around level 44 and don't worry about her not so amazing weapon I am doing the Metal vs Mettle quest very soon and that will give a major improvement to her weapon.

Glad to hear this took off. I had a blast with Dragon's Dogma. I'm hoping to see some REAL DLC content for it soon, and not these lame 'Beneath A Different Sky", find the hidden marble nonsense. More monsters, locations, and classes. That would be awesome.

Loved Dragon's Dogma. I just hope for the next one that they fix things and make it better with problems it is.

Mainly less repetitive, both in terms of ALL the backtracking you hav eto do over the world map. It's one thing not to have fast travel/mounts (I know there's limited fast travel, butit's not that useful because it's so rare) but you need to focus on making travel fun, an dit wasn't in DD once you had been back and fourth 2 times.

Enemies need to have more variety in spawns. I do not get why the big enemies didn't "roam" around and things. Griffith's always attack outside Gran Soren, Cyclops always spawns at the bottom of the waterfall near the encampment, etc.

Then quests, or lack of originality/unique quests. ?The board quest were so generic, "escort x person here or kill x number of enemies." I would have liked more unique quests with actual thought put behind them.

Overall the game was fun, mainly because of it's great combat and fighting the giant monsters, but the repetitive nature of hte quests/travel/monster spawns held it back, hopefully the next one will fix it.

I'll buy it when the game of the year super duper edition comes out. I love this game but I refuse to be played for a fool by Cashcom

DizzyWong
DizzyWong

I'll definitely buy the sequel.  I think this game is great, I only have maybe one or two gripes with it, and those are easily dismissed.

I'd say the only thing that bothers me is the repetitive running around.  But, then again, I haven't been this familiar with an in-game world since Skies of Arcadia.  I think once you get over the repetitive running around, the land of Gransys actually becomes endearing.  Like that time I ran by a trio of guards bragging about finding a freshly dead Cockatrice, and how they meant to offer it as a tribute to the duke.  I won't get into how that turns out, for those who haven't played/seen that yet.  There's plenty going on out there in the wilderness, you just have to run around and find it.

In closing:  I enjoy this game because it feels like the RPG's I grew up with.  I like Skyrim and all that jazz, but this game has a feeling of familiarity that makes it outshine even Bethesda's blockbuster.  To me, anyway.

The_Dragon_Wolf

@SoulRain2 Agree with all except two, the fast travel and the stats distribution.First, an easy fast travel system will ruin DD and destroy the sense of adventure and exploration that it had .. easy fast travel is the bane of any open world game .. it completely destroys the open world feeling .. players will always pick the path of least resistance no matter how much anyone claims they won't, all that said .. DD does have fast travel system .. you can make a whole network or portals and go anywhere you want in an instant .. the only difference is that it only becomes available or possible to make after you explore most of the world .. second, it requires some effort to make it a reality .. as if it is a quest in and of itself .. think hard how that can be done and you will figure it out. As for stats, DD isn't a game of clashing numbers, so automatic stat growth isn't a problem given the amount of factors that affect the combat are numerous and aren't limited to stats .. if stats were really important to combat i'd want manual stat allocation .. but DD combat has so many factors that affect combat (Abilities, Items, Positioning and Direction, Character's weight and size, ... etc etc) that stats only factor by 20% or less .. not a big deal.

had you consider the game without DLCs took about 100hrs to complete. Some of the dlcs are meant to help players that couldnt get pass the early game.

The_Dragon_Wolf

@GameFan1983 Why resort to violence (throwing people off cliff isn't a guaranteed way to make them shut up by the way XD) when you can talk to them, if you use the chair inside inns to nicely ask them to talk less (apparently it affects any pawns you hire too) .. no need to throw anyone off a cliff XD

Midnightshade29
Midnightshade29

@BillyColeman You know , now that it sold well, they will "try to tap the casuals" and tweak the sequal for "Accessabitly".  You know it will happen. It's happened to all good franchises hardcore gamers love. They take stats away, choices, give less quests, less powers... turn it into a shooter... oh wait  wrong game...lol....

Still you get my point I am warey of a sequal from crapcom.  they still refuese to make a HD level console monster hunter game (same reason they won't make a vita monster hunter game), because it means them having to spend money, yet they make this?  Something seems fishy here.

hellfire2034
hellfire2034

@suplax Bioware fucked up DA once they started workin with EA plus i think its hard for them to come out with a good story for DA2 with limited time and have to release it directtly at the date EA told them to. Monster hunter didnt get fu**ed up and it was an old capcom game it just ended up getting less attention frm capcom for the western release

hellfire2034
hellfire2034

@tachsniper looooooool atleast they constantly update us abt DD i dont mind it as long as they dont make super dragon dogma

The_Dragon_Wolf
The_Dragon_Wolf

@DinoBuster Totally agree, i'm waiting for Capcom to release some meaningful DLC to DD .. but i can wait easily since i still have lots of stuff i haven't done in DD .. it's one massive game with content that can last up to +100 hours and more.

The_Dragon_Wolf
The_Dragon_Wolf

@StilerSorry but i strongly disagree.-Fast travel isn't limited at all .. and actually easy fast travel like in Skyrim kills any and all sense of adventure and destroys the feelign of having a really large open world .. backtracking in DD is what made the game world feel alive and exciting .. you actually had to plan your long distance travels and stock well before going out into the wilderness .. that said .. you can make your own fast travel network in DD that allwos you to travel around very fast .. it just takes some thought, gold and effort to make .. think hard and you will figure it out.-As fro randomness .. there is randomness in the game, the Griffon attacked me outside Gransys only during the quest involving it .. i other griffons roaming around the world of Gran Soren .. and many locations have different monsters depending on the time of day and your progress through the story .. i visited places that had only monster type (x) .. then later visited them again to find more monster types .. not to mention .. after the Dragon battle everything changes 180 degrees.-The game had some of the most fresh and interesting quests .. i'm baffled people are saying its quests lack originality ..really !!!? .. the Thief quest, The Trial quest, The Magic Tome Quest .. etc etc .. these are many quests in the game break the norm and are really fun and different from most quests in RPGs .. heck .. even escort quests here are fantastic .. you really have to think about which battles to get into and which to avoid when you are escorting someone .. cause if you take an escorted person to a cyclops fight they will get stomped and killed almost instantly .. so if you see a cyclops in the distance you will have to think of a way to avoid any contact with it and find an alternative path to insure the safety of yuor escorted person .. even kill (x) quests are great fun when it involves cyclops, golems and chimeras. There is thing holding the game back other than lack of polish is the people's lack of imagination and wanting to be fed everything by a golden spoon XD

hellfire2034
hellfire2034

@Stiler the game was fun but keep in mind tht they didnt focus tht much on DD it seems like it didnt recieve much attention frm capcom, they can remove the board quest and probably add 2-3 more massive map are thingy (island or continent watever they will call it) for fast travel they shld put more portcrystal and enable it to be used everywer currently u cant use portcrystals in cassandris and etc, plus for the pawns they can put like answer some question type shit in the costomization and according to tht ur pawn will automatically pick one of the 9-10 personality enabling it to be more interesting and lets u want to knw wat ur pawn thinks abt and etc. Story was good just needed to focus abit more on it to make ppl focus at it more then it is now

The_Dragon_Wolf
The_Dragon_Wolf

@Deadly_Nemesis You might wait forever .. not all Capcom games get that treatment .. Monster hunter games don't have super duper versions as far as i know, nor any of the unique games Capcom made like Haunting Grounds.

@y3ivan That, for me, makes it worse... it's saying, "We gather that we may have made the  game too hard for some players, so to make it easier for them we'll charge them a bit more to help them through the early stages."

This is the sort of thing games generally have difficulty settings for, so if the player struggles they can turn it down a notch, not to have some money grabbing corporate f**kwit charge you to play a game you already have.

Midnightshade29
Midnightshade29

@hellfire2034 lol... it will be dragon's dogma freedom 2 ....   same game as dragons dogma with some new classes, a few more quests and they will call it a sequal, like they did with monster hunter on the psp for 3 damn games....  Only crapcom will call a new sequal a numbered game yet it's the exact same game with some added content.

y3ivan
y3ivan

@TTDog You could play the game like normal hardcore gamer and you will still make it thru just fine. It by no means hard for any gamers that play darksouls.

to regards of the "easy" dlc pack, it was done after 3 weeks due to general public view that the game is hard for early level players.
