TOKYO--Square Enix announced that it has shipped more than 1.3 million copies of its PlayStation 2 remake of Dragon Quest V in only two days. The game was released on March 25 and had reached the impressive sales figure by the end of the following day.

The original game was released on the Super Famicom (SNES in the US) in 1992, and the PS2 remake brings back the classic game with 3D graphics and some minor additions. The game also comes with a bonus disc that includes movies from Dragon Quest VIII.

The Dragon Quest series has always been popular in Japan, and long lines have traditionally formed in front of stores whenever a new title has launched. While these lines did not materialize for the release of the PS2’s Dragon Quest V remake, the title's sales are proof of the series' enduring popularity.
