Dragon Age: Inquisition won't feature Morrigan as a party member

Morrigan won't be a party member in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but will have a "significant" role in the game.

by

Morrigan will play a "significant" role in upcoming BioWare RPG Dragon Age: Inquisition, but will not be a party member in the game.

In the original Dragon Age, Morrigan was a Witch of the Wilds who became an integral character to the game's plot, and was voiced by Claudia Black. Many speculated about Morrigian's role in Dragon Age: Inquisition after the character made an appearance in the Dragon Age: Inquisition E3 2013 trailer.

"It is fair for people to understand that [Morrigan] will not be a party member. That's going to disappoint some people," said Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw in an interview with GameInformer, "but it's important for us to be upfront about that."

Writer David Gaider added that Morrigan's would take a big role in the third Dragon Age. "It’s not a cameo. She plays a significant role,” he said, adding that the player's choices in the first game would have an effect on Morrigan in the game.

“[Morrigan] has a human role in this plot, which I think may surprise some people because they might only think of her as a plot device,” Gaider said. “She has this big plot she’s involved in, and while that’s true to an extent, I’m taking her to a human place. That will make sense after the fact.”

Dragon Age: Inquisition is due out in 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.

I wonder what happens to the child she was pregnant with from DAO.

"Dragon Age: Inquisition won't feature Morrigan as a party member."

Good, now she won't whine and mope the rest of my party to death for an entire game.

I hope they don't mess this one up like they did the second one.  I'd be ok if they just took the first game and modernized it.

The truth is..u didnt seen Morrigan actualy die when u chose that option...cuz when u stab her in the chest shes fallin through the mirror...so i think it is possible for her to survive dat injury..i think :P

I wonder if its because

---Possible Spoiler?---

She sounds almost exactly like Flemeth in that E3 trailer. Did the Grimoire not protect her?

Boooooo! Bioware will probably screw up the ending of this game to

A future DLC feature then? Btw I think it would have been great if in the end of DA:O it would have turned out that she was the main bad girl all the time. Using PC to further her ends toward ultimate power and removing her rivals. Something  like Kiera from SW KOTOR 2.

She is one of those "love to hate" characters and was really interesting in your party....aaand let the Bioware fuck ups begin.

I hope they won't make her another generic raving antagonist who tries to take over the world or something equaly stupid...

Really, temper your expectations...you will not see any DAO party member as a DAI party member. I don't see any DAO character even remotely being in the party. Or DA Awakening for that matter.

The ONLY character from the past games who was a party member I can see returning (and not announced yet) because she may easily fit is Merrill from DA2.

I tried so hard but couldn't seem to get in her pants. She would just tell me I'm a sweet man or something like that. I played through twice and never succeeded. Anyone know what you have to do to screw her?

Well, if the player character is part of, say, an 'inquisition', then it might make sense Morrigan would not want to be a party member..

Or, as some people have pointed out in the forums, the PC may be her child from DA:O. If so, would he/she be interested in visiting grandma's house/hut if she's still around? :)

of course she won't. she's gonna be the last boss.

My favourites are Sten, Alistair, Liliana, DAO Anders, Sigrun, Aveline, Isabela, Merrill and Varric...not that anyone cares.

Sten is the new Arishok, however, which is good enough for me. I like Aveline's strength and Merrill's Tali Zorah-like awkwardness.

Haha....its looking more like Merrill will come back as a party member.

But the BEST DA character is Varric.

I am more concerned with cool loots, nice roster of beasties to slay and non cookie cutter dungeons.DAO 1 and add ons had crappy loots, yawn...Morrigan being a dragon in all, glad my toon never sired her. Here's hoping for a better LARGER game.

What if Flemeth actually succeeded in snatching Morrigan's body, and you've been screwing Flemeth all along?

As long as her significant role isn't giving out quests like "You'll never get past that monster without a particular potion. Go out and fine me exactly 3 wolf hearts that have only a 2% chance of dropping from wolves that you kill and I'll make the potion for you. Once you've defeated the monster, then return to me for another quest!" :P

@tightwad34

lol, seriously i found her the easiest to lay, she practically threw herself at me. The trick is to try and bed her fast, as soon as you meet here before you become to good friends ( without insulting her ofc). If you become good friends with morrigan, she wont wanna have " fun"  with you, which is the complete opposite to the other people i know. Her whole romance bit is about not knowing what love is, and very confused by it.

@Mojira7 can;t be because its set 10 years after origin or something so that would mean we play a 10 year old

If she ends up being your mom in the game maybe you will have to for a while.

@Bercilak Thanks. If I ever get around to playing it again my main priority will be trying to bed her.

@streamline her child is not the player character. They have explained this already. Why would the create a main character who doesn't exist in all saves? The child is optional...and a ten year old BOY when da2 ends.

hadlee73

@streamline I hadn't thought of that possibility, but considering the outcome of DA:O you may be right. :)

@Mefistofel666 @PrpleTrtleBuBum @lpool8 @Mojira7 no they did 9it was in the gameinformer magazine) its set not long after 2.. and im not ar*ed even jesus had to grow up (same thing if ya think about it) if morrigans 30 0dd and the kids 20 somethings gone wrong

Mefistofel666
Mefistofel666

@PrpleTrtleBuBum @lpool8 @Mojira7 And the time in "mirror world" can't really be running at a different pace, That woud be nonsense right? (sarcasm end). And it's frikken child with soul of a god, you can make shit up without getting any bad points in story writing. And it may be more that ten years. devs didn't say anything, or i missed something.

tightwad34
tightwad34

@Mefistofel666 Who's your favorite? Mine would probably be the Dwarf from the first one, I can't think of his name though. He was pretty funny, always drinking and cursing(well he always says sod this or sodding that and I assume that's his way of swearing).

isshiah
isshiah

@streamline they mention it on the bioware forums. Sorry, but it's a mess over there and I wouldn't be able to find it again.

Some players chose not to go through with morrigan's plan, so it would be illogical for the child to exist in their universe at the start of DA3. Also, if the child does exist, he is a human boy in the lore. The main character varies in race and gender. Therefore, I believe the child is not the DA3 character.

streamline

@isshiah I haven't seen anything definitive that says the main character isn't Morrigan's child.  Do you have a source you can reference? Also, why does the main character have to be in the saves? DA2 was a new character and DA2 took place over many years. Even if you start as a 10 year old, that doesn't mean that that you can't age in the game to be a formidable warrior/mage/etc. Japanese anime have heroes in their early teens so it's not impossible.
