Double dip for XBLA this week

Two-fer Wednesdays on Xbox Live Arcade features Klei's Eets: Chowdown, Pinball FX for 800 Microsoft points ($10) each.

by

Last week, Microsoft surprised a few gamers by offering two new games--Gyruss and 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures--for its weekly Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays program. The increased flow of downloadable games continues again this week, as two new titles will be on Xbox Live Marketplace this Wednesday at 2 a.m. PDT.

Eet! Eet! No one likes a skinny gamer!

First up is Eets: Chowdown, which jumps over from the PC to the Xbox 360 from Klei Entertainment. The 2D puzzler features Lemmings-style gameplay as users guide Eets through hazards to each stage's exit. The Xbox 360 version features a new cooperative game mode titled Marsho Madness, which sees players working together to stop an invasion of evil marshmallows.

Also up this week is Pinball FX from Zen Studios. Up to four wannabe Tommys can become pinball wizards on three 3D pinball tables that become more challenging as the game progresses. Players can opt to use the standard Xbox 360 controller to control the flippers, or they can work out their deltoids by using the Xbox Live Vision camera and making arm gestures to bounce the ball around.

Both Eets: Chowdown and Pinball FX are rated E for Everyone and retail for 800 Microsoft Points ($10) each.

Game is really good, 800 points isn't bad for a classic arcade pinball game with clear graphics. Glad there is a game for the older gamer inside, taking them back to the days of The Adams family, Simpson's, and south park, and aliens... bringing old-school gaming back.he-eh

anyone have a link to some of the pinball screens? i wish they'd make some games 600 points. Boom Boom Rocket the other week was a great game but 600 points would have made the most sense to me.

I wonder if this two-games-a-week will continue to happen. I think it's great to have two games in one week - it just gives you a better choice rather than just have one game; thus having to wait another week if you don't like the current week's game. I would really want this to continue on Xbox Live Arcade.

They really do know how to charge too much for a game :P

I noticed that there have been 20 arcade classics released, and 21 other games of varying quality that were not arcade games. I'm glad this Pinball game is coming out this week, because it was one of the ones I was looking forward too (since I collect a lot of digital Pinball games). That Gyruss conversion from last week was really really poorly done. The gameplay was intact, but they screwed up the sound and music (which was in MONO unlike the arcade games which was stereo).

$10 for pinball, regardless, is a bit much. Reminds me of Flow for the PS3...

I will probably skip these two. We can thank Wii's VC for Microsoft releasing multiple games each week I'd think.

Not very appealing. Why can't they bring games like battletoads, the old ninja gaiden and stuff like that.

10 bucks for original games is not bad, or at least for non-remakes of old NES games.

GarfieldX: The whole point of calling it retro gaming is by bringing back the old goodies and being able to play them again. If you up the graphics (which you cant with the older 8/16-bit pieces) and add online support, it's not a retro game, but a mutant form (not saying that's bad, but it defeats calling the games, retro). Kinda lame this week, but it makes me hungry.

I am unimpressed by XBLA's offering this week, but as a whole, it's superb. At least Microsoft is forcing companies to update the graphics and add Xbox Live multiplayer support. Everything on Wii's VC is just 20 years old ROM with no enhancement or update whatsoever. I'm not saying the oldies are not goodies, but if you think about it, it costs Nintendo ZERO to put up those ROMs and makes $5 to $8 each. Where as XBLA games need programmers and designers to add the Live multiplayer part of the games.

at least one of thems gotta be good, the last seven weeks they've had one good game per week. now there's eight good arcade games. sony fanboys take note, that's eight more than the playstation store

I like the sound of these two titles, thought last week's were pretty good, though I only have demos but I like pinball allot so Ill definitely give this a go. Hopefully the "two-fers" continue.

Arcade has really been on a roll after the slow start to the year. Timing couldn't be better considering this is the slow retail period for the industry. The nice thing is that everyone can try the free demo's to see if it's worth paying $10 for it. Neither Nintendo or Sony does that for every DLC.

mpalacio

Chargrilled "4 top quality titles to choose from in the last 2 weeks. puts sonys store to shame. definitely get what you pay for... in sonys case.. nothing." I disagree; last weeks titles kinda sucked (maybe except for Gyruss). This weeks seem worse. Wouldn't be so bad but these are not worth $10. Seriously, Castlevania was $10 and you got a really good long game. Mini-golf was kind of a joke and this pinball and lemmings knock-off don't seem that great; I'll wait for something better. These are in no way top quality...quit kidding yourself. The 360 isn't flawless. However, I do love the diversity and concept of arcade.
