Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze enters UK chart in ninth

Latest Wii U exclusive fails to topple The Lego Movie Videogame.

Nintendo's latest Wii U exclusive, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, has entered the UK charts in ninth after its first weekend on sale.

It was the highest new entry in the chart for the week, way ahead of Rambo: The Videogame in 21st.

The Lego Movie Videogame secured first place for the second week running, with sales increasing due to the streets being full of kids taking their half-term break from school.

Football sim FIFA 14 was second, Call of Duty: Ghosts third, Battlefield 4 fourth, and Lego Marvel Superheroes was fifth.

Lego titles accounted for nine games in the UK top 40 this week, with The Lego Movie perhaps reigniting interest in the entire series.

The rest of the top ten was rounded out by Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition in sixth, Grand Theft Auto V in seventh, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag in eighth, and Rayman Legends in tenth.

Ninth isn't that bad on sales, it also shows that there are many gamers who still love hardcore games and fans of Nintendo games

Not bad for a Wii U only game on a platform that doesn't have a huge install base.

Is that level based on the Arcadia area of Bioshock?

"Tropical Freeze is a good game, and aficionados of the genre will love it, but it does absolutely nothing to move forward either the Donkey franchise, 2D platformers in general, or the case for buying a Wii U."

Sales will show the same thing.

Another flop for the Wii-U

Rambo: The Videogame is so bad that I might just watch a Let's Play video of it for laughs.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition in sixth. Lol, it's gone up from last week, after all this time.

Hopefully this game will allow you to play using the Wii U pro controller. 9th place for this game is not bad considering the install base in the U.K is small.

Not bad considering how poorly the Wii U has done in that area in the world. I played DK:TF over the weekend with a friend and good lawd is it difficult. The first world is a breeze, but after that it starts putting the screws to you. Went from 32 lives to 5 by the end of world 2.

I personally like the idea of having a Donkey Kong  game in a full HD it's looks great and it's ? DK the franchise as a whole has been known to be hard. Yes there are some flaws but i can pick out several new AAA releases of late that are more glitched up or just half baked in it's development process but then again it's their review take with it what you will. I rate the game a 8

What's with all the hate from Gamespot and viewers?.... If you suck at this game there is no reason to bash it, or give it a crappy unfair review. It got a 9/10 IGN and I own this game and absolutely love it. Some times I wonder about Gamespot.

Really looking forward to getting it. Can't wait to play the 6 out of it!!!

Well Nintendo shouldn't be worry about DKC: Tropical Freeze not being the highest sales because they got Mario Kart 8 coming out in May but still, that's a long wait. Nintendo should be looking into making there 1st party games into Lego and I enjoy playing Lego games from time to time, Star Wars and Batman was so fun.

@Sharkspawn80  I got far more gaming skills than you could ever hope to possess.  The game is bad because it is bad, not because people suck at it, Mr. derpsauce

@EasyComeEasyGo Nintendo should start outsourcing their franchises to third party developers if they don't have the infrastructure to support both their handheld devices and home console devices. Or they should start opening up and acquiring development studios to ensure that droughts like the one engulfing the Wii U doesn't happen.

But no, Nintendo is too busy chasing after smartphone and tablet gamers to do that...

@london751 @gameroutlawzz  Yeah right, I game on the Wii U,have South Park: SoT and Dark Souls 2 pre-ordered for my ps3 and my PC will be used for Renegade X. Also,Im from Quebec so try harder.

Youre a fucking braindead and I laugh at your gaming skills. Nintendo always did

and still deliver the best games.

@19James89 @EasyComeEasyGo

I'd really like to see Nintendo outsource the virtual console games. Obviously, they don't have time to churn out very many when HD development going on. Hell, they could hire the guys behind the Dolphin emulator to work on bringing GC games to Wii U. They've already dedicated themselves to learning the GC hardware without access to official documentation. It makes sense.

I reference virtual console in particular because outsourcing core franchises hasn't always yielded the best results. Take Other M, for example. It's in the bargain bin for $10 when Prime 3 is still going for around $30.

EasyComeEasyGo
EasyComeEasyGo

I wouldn't say Nintendo is doing bad but I would agree that they should outsourcing other 3rd party but I still like Retro and trust me, I like there work. If they do a Zelda game, I would buy Wii U just to play Zelda. Nintendo has already stated that they will not bring any 1st parties into Smartphones but will bring other Nintendo features in the future.

@Hurvl @gameroutlawzz @london751  Since french is my main language you can guess that Im fairly well-educated to have a comprehensible 2nd language when more than half the population here can barely write/speak understable english sentences. They cant even properly write well in their own language since theyre too busy watching stupid fucking Vines videos and other BS the social websites are constantly spewing at us nowadays.

@gameroutlawzz @london751Now that we know stuff about you, we can start making "educated" guesses, but just saying that all of the UK people are sheep isn't anything more than baseless slander.

@b74kd3th @chev7781@AlanDO_MariMo No, you just lack the intelligence to notice a troll and realize that their not worth spending so much time on. And due to your lack of a sex life, you got nothing to do but troll a company who's games you want badly.

19James89
19James89

@EasyComeEasyGo I'd say on the Wii U front Nintendo is performing abysmally, there's just no other way of cookie cutting it. I like Retro studios and what they've done with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is sterling, but it's yet another platformer on a console which seems to churn out platformers and very little else.

A Zelda game will more than likely be made for the Wii U, but when will it be released? 2015? 2016? 2017? Will it be too little too late by that time period? There's still no information of when Bayonetta 2 is getting a NA/EU release and no information on X or SMT X FE.

Nintendo shouldn't be focusing on smartphones and tablets, all their effort should be focused on the Wii U and making that product a successful product.

The Wii U has been out now for nearly a year-and-a-half and still doesn't have that must have exclusive and to be honest given how little of an impact SM3DW has made on Wii U sales, I'm not confident that Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros will have the desired impact of really driving up the Wii U install. Maybe this is the first Nintendo console where its first party games just cannot save it from being written off an abject failure? I hope I'm wrong, but 2014 looks no different to 2013 in terms of a games drought and a real lack of compelling software to convince even the most ardent Nintendo fan to part with their hard-earned money on a console which really isn't worth owning if you already own a 3DS family console.
