Documentary About Video Game Music Hits Funding Goal

"Have you ever paused a game just to hear the music play?"

The Players' Score, a documentary about the personal and cultural impact of video game music, has reached its Kickstarter funding goal of $24,000. The funding milestone happened Tuesday, with just three days to go in its campaign.

"Have you ever paused a game just to hear the music play?" reads a line from the project's Kickstarter page. The film's producers--a group of students and independent filmmakers--want to capture the phenomenon of video game music from the perspectives of cover bands, chiptune artists, and well-known composers.

Some of the artists lined up so far include the composers of Journey (Austin Wintory) and Shovel Knight (Jake Kaufman), as well as cover bands like The Megas and Starbomb. Now that the project has been successfully funded, The Players' Score will feature people like Video Games Live co-creator Tommy Tallarico and the metal-minded group Power Glove.

A pledge of $20 or more will get you a copy of The Players' Score, which is expected to be available sometime in spring 2015. The Players' Score is not the only video game music documentary in the works, as Beep: A Documentary History of Video Game Music and Sound, was also recently successfully funded on Kickstarter. It's a good time to be a fan of video game music.
