Disney bringing Brave game home this summer

Third-person action game based on Pixar's upcoming fantasy film headed to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, and PC/Mac this summer alongside movie.

by

Pixar's upcoming fantasy adventure Brave hits theaters this summer, and Disney today said it will have a game ready to launch alongside it.

Brave hits theaters and home screens this summer.

Due out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, DS, PC, and Mac, Brave: The Video Game is a third-person action adventure title. Gamers are cast as Merida, the expert archer and hero of the film. In the console versions of the game, players can also take on the roles of other characters from the film.

Disney did not say if Brave: The Video Game will follow the events of the film--due in theaters on June 22--or tell its own story. The company did say that players can embark on quests in a "magical world" and solve puzzles to unearth secrets. The Xbox 360 version is compatible with the Kinect, with the PS3 iteration offering gamers control using the PlayStation Move peripheral.

The console versions of Brave: The Video Game include a single-player campaign, cooperative support, and an exclusive mode where players take on the role of a bear.

Brave: The Video Game is in development at Behaviour Interactive in Montreal.

@nintendoboy16 I'll admit, those are some of the extremely rare movie games that are good, but can you name three more?

@contraigon Goldeneye 007 on N64 (and Wii) and The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers and Return of the King on PS2 and GameCube disagree.

Hey Disney, here's a thought: how about you release your movie-based games AFTER the movie is actually released!

Some people say this game will suck, but don't forget about Toy Story 3, especially the PS3 and 360 versions.

Kind of surprised they're missing out the 3DS maybe implementing 3D was too much effort for a cheaply produced movie cash-in. (As with all Movie games I hope it's a great game that both catches and enhances the essence of the film. Thats always the hope, just not expectation.)

Usually everyone is right that movie tie ins aren't good, but some can be the exception. I recently played ToyStory3 over the holiday and it was pretty fun! So, I'm willing to give this a chance ^_^

Thank god, I was beginning to worry

Why is this news again? Its probobly already predictable what will happen: The movie might be good, the game will suck, but some people will still buy it. Do I get a cookie?

LOL it will be released on the DS but no 3DS...

there was a video game for every pixar game out there. Disney interactive should thank God for children. Black Rock, bought by Disney, made Pure and Split Second, which were awesome games, and then they died. They were the makers of the MotoGP series, as Climax. Propaganda Games, the ones that made Turok, after Tron Evolution... dead. Yeah, so Disney has trouble when it comes to investing in serious games.

Gosh, is it really? This isn't some cruel tease? I thought I was excited for Mass Effect 3, but this... Mouth dry. Palms clammy. Adrenaline fizzing in bloodstream like cheap ginger beer. *watches calendar with predatory intensity*

Not interested. Movie games aren't often good, and I don't support this Pixar release at all due to their shuffling of directors

You know a console's cycles coming to a close when movie tie-ins are appearing on PC/MAC

If done right, this could be cool. But my expectations are as high as Death Valley.

all games based on kids movies sell well, of course not many hardcore gamers will care about this unless they have kids

A videogame tie in for a movie. I can safely assume this will be GOTY. Movie games do have such a flawless track record after all.

Hitting ds but not the easily more powerful 3ds,psp,and vita? That is proving low expectations already. They COULD create an almost Elder-Scrolls-esque rpg (except in slightly smaller scale)...the Scottish world is ripe for that after all.It could have heavy rpg elements, since this is one of the first movies (besides Incredibles) that has combat even in the movie, since it is set in ...say..17th century or earlier you would have to work hard to keep it from becoming a fantasy rpg. This is one of the best suited movies for a game but it will probably only be reduced to the purpose of making people want to go see the movie for sheer hope it is better than the game.

Why is everyone freaking out? Don't knock it before you try it. Besides, Pixar games are usually not half bad.

Oh good Lord not again... The movie looks good, a GAME? Please no.

@MrAWESOME7: You're correct, but I would hardly consider Arkham City or Asylum as having anything to do with any of the Batman movies, especially The Dark Knight or Batman Begins. If you compare The Joker in AS to the one in Dark Knight, they are not even remotely similar.

MrAWESOME7

Movie games are always trash. Except for the games that are kinda named after the movie but not 100% and has a different story example. Batman arkham city and batman arkham asylum.

Looking forward to the movie, Pixar rocks, not so much the game.

well, i just don't see this as news, it's safe to assume that moives like this one will have a tie-in, and most if not all movie tie-in's are just shovelware. what would win me over is quality of the product

eddienoteddy

@Savoritias @gix47 What would it take for a movie tie-in game to win you over? I agree that many movie games are less than great. I'm just curious.

indeed, who would have guessed that thier would be a tie-in game from a Disney film

Wait, a tie-in game for a blockbuster Disney film? That's a little unexpected!
