Dishonored debuts October 9

Bethesda confirms North American release date for Arkane Studios' first-person assassination action game; European launch to follow October 12.

by

October lost a major release yesterday when BioShock Infinite was delayed to next year, but it gained one right back today. Bethesda Softworks this morning announced that it would launch Dishonored in North America on October 9, with an Australian release October 11 and a European debut following October 12.

Boom goes the dynamite on October 9.

Set for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Dishonored is a first-person action game that puts players in the boots of Corvo, an assassin tasked with protecting the empress of a stylized steampunk city known as Dunwall. However, the empress is soon murdered, with Corvo framed for the killing, and sinister forces grant the accused assassin supernatural abilities to pursue his revenge.

Dishonored is being developed by Arkane Studios with co-creative directors Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith at the helm. Colantonio was lead designer and director on Arkane's first title, the 2002 role-playing game Arx Fatalis, while Smith made his name as lead designer for Ion Storm's influential first-person action game Deus Ex. Beyond Arx Fatalis, Arkane also handled the original PC version of Ubisoft's Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in 2006. More recently, Arkane assisted 2K Marin with BioShock 2.

Looks very promising. As long as it isn't the same team that worked on Alpha Protocol I'm good. Then again Alpha Protocol probably could've been so much better had it stayed in the oven for about another 7-8 months, but I'm sure the publishers wanted to get it launched. This one looks like a refreshing IP and I'll be watching the reviews closely.

Hope this isn't a "Rogue Warrior"....ouch!

Hopefully Bethesda will release it as a complete game, with no content cut or locked-on-disc for day 1-DLC etc.

Is is just me, or do they always bust out the Bohemian flavored violin, and cello music to try and create a sense of atmosphere when somehting is " Dark, Sad, Depressing"

Love the look of the art-style, and if they are some in game screen shot, it looks good. I'm hoping if it is meant to feel like London they get some good British voice actors. This is where some London baced game rely fall down....... But I will keep my eye on this.

Anything made by the protegees of Warren Spector is going to be interesting at the very least. Lose one game by ex-Looking Glass employees, gain another. The addition of Harvey Smith to the team can only mean good things as well.

When you marry Assassins Creed, Thief, and Deus Ex, this is what you get.  An awesome piece of work I must say.  I cannot wait to see more of what this game has to offer.  Watch the debut trailer to really get your juices flowing.

Can we please have verification (like an actual Bethesda-based source of information) for the Australasian release date?

It's good that it'll release soon but please, squish all the bugs.

I can't wait to see this game at E3. I read about it in Game Informer. It sounds interesting. Although, it is possible that it will be buggy as hell. I hope not.

I like the way Bethesda doesn't make you wait long before a release.  This will be sweet!

Hm, Dishonored, a BioShock-esque game, gets a release date the day after BioShock Infinite gets delayed. Coincidence? I think not. The game still looks great though.

Guess they should have hired a bodyguard instead of an assassin for a protection detail.  Well, live and learn.  ;0)

Anyways, anything from Bethesda is worth noting.  Have to keep an eye out for this one.

Definitely on my 'to play' list, but I'll wait to see what the reviews are like before I buy this.

A release date is good, but gameplay video would be even better.

I think this game is interesting, but the lack of game footage so far is very disappointing especially with the release date not to far off.

Just as  long as we have one non-sequel AAA title this year....

i like the way these editor crunch up everything they know about a game in a release-date-revealed article, while most of us reading it already know that stuff.... but its nice for the ocassionally gamey folk

We lose one Steam Punk game and get another. I think if Dishonored becomes a hit, Irrational Games might regret that move.

Out with photo realism I say and in with the art stylisation again.

On another note though...

Sound ambitious but again. Gonna need some gameplay here guys. As my dad always used to say to me. "Talk is cheap"

OMG I remember watching the trailer and some interviews back then and there were so much hype around it before launch. Man, I was so looking forward to that game, just to get utterly disappointed :(

@Cryptic_Shadow they are good for release dates (normally) but then because people want a game now they get it and complain about the bugs -_- I don't like bugs either but you either wait for a game to be refined or have it early and they refine it through updates (hopefully free) I honestly prefer the 2nd one as it also allows them to figure out the big bugs and focus on them instead of waiting forever to still get a glitchy game

maderrin

@urielros Not so much. There was Arcanum in 2001, a steampunk rpg in a classic form. And Dishonored is not going to even be an RPG - First Person Action game, that's what it says.

@KFHEWUI and its being released around the time of borderlands 2...great another game that will involve me and I won't be able to put down
