Dirt 4 On Nintendo Switch? It Could Happen, But Not Soon Or Maybe Ever

"We've nothing to announce right now, but, I wouldn't rule it out."

Codemasters announced the next Dirt game, Dirt 4, earlier this week, confirming it's coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this June. Now, game designer Darren Hayward has teased that it could also come to Nintendo Switch--but maybe don't get your hopes up about that.

"Personally, I've got my Switch preordered and I'm getting it day one," Hayward told the UK's Daily Star. "Obviously at launch [Dirt 4] is not coming to Switch. We'd already picked our platforms. We've nothing to announce right now, but, I wouldn't rule it out."

Hayward went on to say that Codemasters would have to do "quite a lot in terms of extra tweaks" to support the Switch's unique features, including its Joy-Con motion controllers.

"There are not many inputs, so you'd have to have super simplified controls and because of that, it may not be the ideal scenario for Dirt 4," he said. "That said, I could definitely see Nintendo Switch having some compelling racing experiences."

Dirt 4 follows the 2016 racing game Dirt Rally, but is the first numbered entry since 2011's Dirt 3.

According to Codemasters, Dirt 4 will put an emphasis on the dangerous nature of motorsports. "Dirt 4 is all about embracing that danger," the developer said. "It's about the thrill, exhilaration, and adrenaline that is absolutely vital to offroad racing."

As for the Nintendo Switch, it launches on March 3, priced at $300.
