DICE pins down 360 Battlefield release date

[UPDATE] Mid-March deployment scrapped, developer confirms April 11 release for next-gen port of Modern Combat.

March was poised to be big for military-minded Xbox 360 owners, with the expected releases of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, The Outfit, and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat all scheduled for release by mid-month. However, those ranks were thinned by one this week as developer Digital Illusions confirmed on its Web site that Modern Combat would not be assigned to active duty until April 11.

While the PlayStation 2 and Xbox editions of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat arrived in stores last November, Electronic Arts is including a number of new features to differentiate the Xbox 360 edition from its predecessors. In addition to the expected next-gen graphic overhaul, the game's missions have been retooled, the artificial intelligence altered, and the physics tweaked.

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is rated T for Teen and will retail for $59.99. For more on Modern Combat for the 360 and what makes it different from the PlayStation 2 and Xbox current-gen editions, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
