Diablo III PS3 spotted on German retailer

E3 2012: Listing for Blizzard's role-playing game spotted online; no confirmation from Blizzard.

A German retailer has posted a listing for a PlayStation 3 version of Diablo III.

Diablo III on PS3 spotted on German retailer.

According to the retailer's online site, the console version of the game includes a "brand new feature."

The product listing shows the game has been classified by the USK (the German abbreviation for the Entertainment Software Rating Board or ESRB) with a rating of 16 and over. It is listed with a price of 66.66 euros ($83.27).

Speculation of a console version of Diablo III has been circulating since the game was first announced at BlizzCon 2008. At the time, company representatives confirmed the title only for the PC and Mac, quickly followed by a teasing "for now."

In November last year, Blizzard began a search for console lead designers for the game. However, last month Diablo III game director Jay Wilson said Blizzard is not presently working on a console version of the dungeon crawler, saying the company is not sure whether "it will work."

They would probably have to nerf inferno for a console version. I can't see the controller being as smooth as a mouse and board in terms of controls for this game. Alot of the skills require aiming which would require use of both analog sticks. The "pointing" control would be sloppy, but the movement and skill slots would be smooth. The aiming is extremely important though.

YES!!!!!! There is hope!

If it comes to console, i sure as hell hope it will be posible to log in whit 2 acounts, so you can play local-co-op, all who did play Champions and Buldur`s gate now that this is the most fun. And controls can work just fine.

I still don't understand the appeal of Diablo. I mean if you enjoy it keep on enjoying it but I was bored out of my mind when I was playing it. Played for about 3-5 hours and I just couldn't keep on going it was just to damn boring. All my friends went nuts over it, maybe its just me but the entire dungeon-crawler genre is just completely unappealing to me.

Sure would work. I'm not sure how they would handle the online aspects though, specially the auction house. PSN is also pretty fail as an online network and Blizzard would have to deal with that.

Seems that no one here has ever played Champions of Norrath on the PS2.  The controls worked pretty well there actually...

PS3 can support a mouse and keyboard.  So it is plausible.  Frankly  I don't see why not.

And ArmA2 has had a "360" page up since 2009. Still no port.

Not hard to port Diablo  3 its not a very complicated game control wise.

Apparently a lot of people on this board are either casual gamers or ten years old. A port is pretty easy to do and controls will not be an issue. Why? Because Blizzard has ported at least 3 titles previously including Diablo I, which I own and its at least as good as the pc version. They also ported Warcraft 2, and starcraft. I think since then technology has improved, and lets not get crazy here folks, diablo a top down point and click rpg, from a graphical and gameplay standpoint it pales in comparison to something like Skyrim. And yes the PC version has bugs, so do fallout, skyrim, and pretty much any other game that has online component to it. Its the cost of having the breath and scope that these games try to offer. If you have issues with them, go play a sudoku in the local paper, at least it wont lag on you ;).

Really love to see Diablo 3 for consoles, low graphics laptop can't handle those games anymore. :(

the PC releases is simply the beta for the console release.

"Diablo III game director Jay Wilson said Blizzard is not presently working on a console version of the dungeon crawler, saying the company is not sure whether "it will work.""

What's he talking about?  It doesn't work on PC let alone a console!

It's like Blubadox said. If you're familiar with Diablo and Diablo 2, you know that the controls have been scaled way back in Diablo 3, as if to make it easier to port to console.

Mistaken report I'm afraid. If you go to usk.de and type in Diablo 3 under "Titelsuche", you'll see that the USK has issued no rating for the PS3 version, only the PC version. And that supposed link brings me to some blog.

Since the PS3 supports keyboard/mouse, I can see this happening.  Just look at Unreal Tournament 3 for the PS3.  It supported keyboard and mouse.  Too bad more games don't provide that as an option.

The issue isn't button placement.  It's also very feasible to allow them to be moved by the joysticks.  The problem lies in how to make them properly aim their skills/powers, picking up dropped items, moving items in and around your inventory and other customizing areas.  They could make one joystick move, and then one joystick be a mouse pointer (even if only temporary at times), but it would be horrible either way.  It would be extremely bogged down.

I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard is working on a console version of the game, but if you know Blizzard, you know that it doesn't necessarily mean that they will ever actually release it.  Blizzard has no qualms with spending time and resources on a game and then deciding to just junk it if it didn't work out to their expectations.

D3 features are stripped down to fit consoles.  Action Bar (XYAB),  Primary and Secondary (RT and LT).

 @ecs33

What you say is true and i agree to an extent. That said, i think that the PC version of Torchlight transitioned pretty well to the Xbox 360. I'm sure similar issues arose with the aiming. That would make it difficult but not impossible.

damion_silverbr
damion_silverbr

@ecs33 Blizz could also recommend that players use a usb keyboard and mouse to play the game, and make the controls like they were for D1 on PS1. People would go for the keyboard/mouse combo for sure.

@vault-boy Much Much Much loot. BTW can't wait for Borderlands 2.....humming "Ain't no rest for the wicked......bills to pay......"

Drahk1

@vault-boy I can see people getting bored of it.  The hack and slash aspect of hack and slash games is extremely repetitive.  But wanting to see how the story unfolds and collecting better loot to make my character stronger is what makes it fun.  I actually get bored with about 95% of games out there these days, but this genre really holds my interest.  Can't wait for Torchlight 2. :)

@jdookee Baldurs Gate, Champions of norath/return to arms, Fallout brotherhood of steal, all good games all worked well

@kambion313 Mouse and keyboard don't matter. The controller is more than enough. Plausible is an understatement, the PS3 is well ahead of its time.

kambion313
kambion313

@linksfire except for you can't aim well on PS3, and a lot of the skills require good aim and twitch reflexes. ALSO if it is on the PS3, the ONLY reason it is there is because PS3 can support a mouse and keyboard, the same way it did in Unreal Tournament.  The button layout on PC has nothing to do with preparation for a PS3 release, to assume so would be silly.  In fact, the reason you have that limited button layout on PC is to restrict the amount of skills you can use, thus creating unique builds (since all characters get all skills/runes), no other reason.

@shooters125 No way. PSN is very unsafe. screw that theres enough hackers already.

@kiramasaki What does being a casual gamer have to do with anything? You're also comparing titles ported 10 years ago to the complexity of today's hardware and saying it's quote "pretty easy to do". I'm all about more options for good games, but they couldn't get Ghost off the ground after years of trying, and your primary examples in regards to ports are from two (2) generations ago as if it's a weekend task. You end by taking a cheap shot as if sudoku or similar games are meant for people with lesser minds than yours...

Vlad_an_impaler

@pedrobruel It's why I wait to see the community outcome of these "games". I won't pay for a game who won't support me "the gamer".

@Darkreaper_1 Lol exactly what I was about to say.  PC version does not work.  I had it for about 3 weeks and finally decided to ask for a refund because the lag spikes where unbearable.

@Fanible They did it with Dungeon Hunter: Alliance (Diablo like clone) and it worked just fine.

 @kambion313

There's actually 6 slots. The first two are the right and left mouse buttons.

Morphine_OD
Morphine_OD

Yeah, keep believing that. Exactly 4 skills was chosen because 4 is a magic number, not because 4 is a number of buttons on the pad. And certainly twitch doesn't work on consoles. In the end there's no Modern Warfare there right? Oh wai~

vault-boy

@Runock Wow, their are still people bitching about that? I thought that everyone had, you know, grown up a little in the last few years.

@xJackelx ghost was poorly designed. Believe me, there's nothing difficult in porting as long as you get the resources.

@markvons That's a shame.  I preordered to get mine on launch day, was away for two weeks on my honeymoon, I've been back for almost two weeks and I haven't been kicked off for days.  They've since released patches and the lag has really been pretty minor, and I'm on a laptop that isn't even state-of-the-art, so...

Sorry your impatience made you get a refund.  Too bad...

jubeio
jubeio

@kambion313 You can't base how a game would be because it was on PS1, games similar were onm PS2 that were good, for PS3 they could easily make it as fun

Morphine_OD
Morphine_OD

@kambion313 We're talking about twitching technique that works pretty good in CoD. And nope, not fail, because they can introduce a great amount of auto aim as well. LOL haven't you though about this?

kambion313
kambion313

@Morphine_OD CoD and Diablo are completely different.  Diablo has been on a controller, and it was horrible (it was on PS1) ALSO CoD has massive amounts of auto aim (not on the PC) so... fail.

markvons
markvons

@cardinalphoenix I've downloaded their patches, done every thing suggested in the troubleshooting guide, submitted trace routes and diagnostic reports and Blizzard said everything looked fine yet the game still wouldn't run properly.

Don't feel sorry for me I took my refund and got Max Payne 3 with... now that's what I'd call a good game. Funny I can play that game flawlessly single and multiplayer on the highest settings but Diablo 3 wouldn't run smooth no matter what I tried.
