Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls release date confirmed

First Diablo 3 expansion coming to PC/Mac in March.

Diablo 3 expansion Reaper of Souls will be released on March 25, 2014, developer Blizzard has announced.

The expansion will launch on PC and Mac, with the standard edition of the expansion being available for pre-purchase now at $39.99. A copy of Diablo 3 is required to play the expansion.

A digital deluxe edition will also be available for $59.99, which features a set of helm and weapon recipes exclusive to the edition, alongside a Spectral Hound minion and three extra character slots.

Buying the digital deluxe edition of Reaper of Souls will also get you an in-game Treasure Goblin companion pet for World of Warcraft, and Crusader-themed Battle.net portraits and Melthael decals for StarCraft II.

The retail collector's edition, which goes for $79.99, will feature the digital contents plus a Malthael mouse pad, a hardback art book, and a behind-the-scenes Blu-Ray/DVD.

Reaper of Souls introduces a new character class, the Crusader, and a fifth act to the game. The expansion will also be a part of the Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition when it launches on PlayStation 4, though Blizzard is yet to date this version.

The game's controversial auction house, which has dogged the reputation of Diablo 3 since its announcement, will be closed on March 18.

A closed beta for Reaper of Souls is currently underway.

I love how people confuse "expansion" with "DLC"...  ¬_¬

That is only the first official release date. I'm not even taking it seriously until they release the official 11th pushback date. 2016, fingers crossed!

$40 to add only 20% more content? No thanks.

Not wanting to spend money that almost equals a new game on shitty, cheap expansions: cheapo.

40 BUCKS really thats steep, it better add something legendary awesome, and takes longer than 1 hour to beat..

$40 is a little steep, and that is coming from someone who logged 200 hours in D3. I do like that they are getting rid of the auction house and changing drop rates. I hope what we get is a little more like the previous Diablo games because of that. It took me 120 hours to find my first legendary. Worst luck ever.

I pray the always online portion is nixed, me and two friends jumped into the game - laggy with all of us in the same room. But what was worse was the constant messaging to power level or run us through dungeons. There were epic rares and gems on the AH for less then items you could buy from NPC vendors. I sold a crappy rare for 1.5 million.

I do not want a game that is glitched.

The DRM always online was not to fight piracy it was a money making stint tacked on as an after thought. Ruined the game for me.

I really hope they allow single player off line.

Unless this has the same amount of content as the original game there won't be many people buying this.

That is a big price tag for a game that released long ago with many people finished playing it.

Man I fucking hate it when they do deluxe editions with bonus in-game content and shit like that. Way to squeese every single cent out of us blizzard, you can kiss my ass. I won't support this kind of crap.

What about an Xbox One version?

You lost me at $40 for one act and a new class. An act in Diablo isn't really a big addition, nor is an additional class. Definitely not for $40, at least.

I still regret buying Heart of the Swarm for SC2...$50 for a couple hours' worth of mediocre new gameplay, and I haven't touched it since.

Gazdakka

$40? Does it come with offline mode so I can play the game the way that every console gamer can and more than half your fanbase wanted the first time around? No? Well then bugger off, because I still haven't bought vanilla D3 and I sure as hell don't plan to.

Let me know when Deckard Cain's Ultimate Foreskin Edition is announced...

$40.00 is way too much. should be free, but at most 20.00 They owe everyone who bought the Beta for 60.00 2 years ago at least that much.

. o O (  If you play 400 hours on a 40$ games, it makes playing the game less expansive then sitting and chewing gum. )

@Xirtahm 40$ for an extra class and 4-5 hours of flawed gameplay, sure sounds like an Overpriced DLC to me.

RELeon

@Toysoldier34 I agree. Quite a bit of money for one act and one new class. But that is Blizzard for you nowadays. Break every game into 3 smaller games and charge full price for each.

@Gazdakka dude you know why they dont make off line game because of piracy dont like it wait for consoleversion lol

jenovaschilld

@angelofbeast198 @Gazdakka The D3 always online DRM has nothing to do with piracy, it is about money. Everything from advertisements, AH transactions, and the collection/selling of meta-data about each account - makes them money. Do not get me wrong, I know a company needs to make a profit, but at the cost of ruining their product and inflicting needless burden issues to its customers is anti gamer not anti piracy.

Well as a consumer the easiest way I can let the seller no - is by not buying their product. Matter of fact i am sending a selfie of a 'do not buy sign' over my local walmart display.

Gazdakka
Gazdakka

@angelofbeast198@Gazdakka Rubbish. Starcraft 2 allowed you to play the campaign provided you had the updated version of their game downloaded. They wanted Diablo 3 to be online-only so people would be further inclined to make use of their devillish real-money auction house scheme, which has since been discontinued.

Don't try to brown-nose them over this one. It was well within their capacity to make an offline-based version, in much the same way as Simcity could have been.

Gazdakka
Gazdakka

@AzatiS@angelofbeast198 Totally agree. Some people will just lick the orifices of their favourite developers no matter what's raining down on them. Who needs to be smart about the way they buy their games when your mother pays for them?

Gazdakka
Gazdakka

@angelofbeast198@Gazdakka How appallingly elitist of you. This "you-connect-to-the-Internet-every-day-so-why-not" attitude is atrocious. The Internet is not always 100% reliable, and that's not factoring in any server-side problems, bandwidth limits or ISP errors.

With the PC version, you're not buying *the game*; you're buying permission to access Blizzard's servers.  This means that if you want to play this game out of nostalgia say, 10-20 years down the road, you're entirely banking on the premise that Blizzard will keep those servers open for the duration of your lifetime interest.  Because once those servers are gone, your game is useless and all of the time you've spent playing it accounts to nothing. Congratulations: you paid full price for a placebo, hope it was worth it.

If you want to go down that road, that's cool, buddy. I'm more interested in not having to take a leap of faith with Blizzard and instead own a game that can function whether or not the Internet decides that it wants to give me the time of day.

@angelofbeast198

So whats your problem and you bitching over others that at least they got a valid reason to bitch ?

Wasnt Jay Wilson saying again and again that  Diablo 3 cant have an offline mode because game build from ground up to be an online ? Then suddenly console version = offline.

Some fanboys bitching way more than actually anyone else . And they bypassing all the facts just to favor their game... pathetic

angelofbeast198

@Gazdakka @angelofbeast198  we are in century were every one have a pc in each room have ty in each room have a video game system in each room and ppl crying about online required

angelofbeast198
angelofbeast198

@Gazdakka @angelofbeast198 don't really matter the point is stop bitching about off line mode is not like you don't connect to the internet every day and starcraft is way different to diablo way different
