Deus Ex movie in the works

CBS Films picks up rights to make movie based on 2011 game Human Revolution; The Departed and Hitman producers on board.

Square Enix's action franchise Deus Ex is heading to Hollywood. GameSpot parent company business unit CBS Films announced today that it has secured the rights to make a movie based on 2011's well-received Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Adam Jensen is headed to Hollywood.

The untitled Deus Ex film will be produced by Roy Lee (The Departed, The Ring) and Adrian Askarieh (Hitman). John P. Middleton, who is working on a number of upcoming films, including supernatural horror movie 7500, will serve as executive producer.

CBS Films is also working with Square Enix and developer Eidos Montreal on the project.

"No one knows Human Revolution like the team that created it and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the Deus Ex name," said CBS Films co-president Terry Press.

A director for the Deus Ex movie was not announced, nor were any cast members. For more on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, check out GameSpot's review.

Watch Equilibrium. Unquestionably, Christian Bale would make an amazing Denton or Jensen. However, I'm not sure he'd be interested in the project.

i dont know much about the story of human revolution, the game felt like a very bad and poor ported console game and i only played a2 hours or so. However they should have made a deus ex movie based on the story of the first deux ex and also 10 years ago - The Story was just great and i dont think human revultion is better or even close to the story of the denton brothers. Maybe a good way to see what happens in HR, but as bad as the game was i dont expact much.

Oh please, not Keanu Reeves! And do keep Uwe Boll away from this, if it ever truly hits the fan. I don't have any idea about the actors nor the directors, but IMHO, if they want to make a movie out of Deus Ex universe, I think they should focus properly on the Denton brothers plots and storyline. Perhaps starting from the death of Adam Jensen.

Only one person comes in mind when it comes to Adam Jensen...Keanu Reeves!

I never asked for this.... no, really... I love Deus Ex but this sounds horrible. The biggest strengths of Deus Ex are only relevant in the context of player control!

Will I be able to watch the whole movie without killing anyone, like when I play the game?

Ryan Gosling? Dude serious.

They shouldn't cast a mainstream actor for the part of Adam Jensen But rather a upcoming fresh face with a strong cast to support him.

I still would prefer a anime of the series tho

All we need now is the minesweeper game movie with Michael Bay as the director so we can have those explosions, and we can have Kristen Stewart as the yellow face... I think this would be awesome

i hope the music is going to be good as in the game. its most obvious that it will be an action movie. Hey wait the movie idea is only in extreme early stages and it may not surface.

Jesus, just because they buy the rights to it doesn't mean that they're gonna make the film. They're just keeping potential film ideas open so they don't have to pay a writer a large sum of cash to whip up something original.

Many video games get their rights bought, less than 10% become films.

Nobody here can predict the future and that is how it is meant to be.  When the movie comes out we can talk, but at this point we know near to nothing about what will come of this movie.  So let's all be friends and wait to see if this movie will be a total game changer for games turned into movies or if this will be another one of the games turned into movie failures.  (^____^)

What happened to THIEF4?  Deus Ex is defiantly a good game. I loved the first one so I got this one.

Finally a game worthy of a movie.  It's sickening how many movies based on video games that have come out all of which are horrible.  Doom, Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat, Prince of Persia etc YUCK, they have all been so awful.

A Deus Ex movie, if done properly, could be great, mainly because most people won't even realize it a move based on a video game.

"What if a A lethal pandemic known only as the "Gray Death" ravaged the world's population and there was no cure. A vaccine, "Ambrosia", manufactured by the company VersaLife, nullifies the effects of the virus, but is in critically short supply. Because of its scarcity, Ambrosia is available only to those deemed "vital", and finds its way primarily to military personnel, the rich and influential, and the intellectual elite. With no hope for the common people of the world, cities, towns, and nations slowly slip into decay and chaos, with riots occuring worldwide, and a number of terrorist organizations have formed with the professed intent of assisting the downtrodden. Only one man can defeat the terrorists and restore worldwide order. JC Denton. Deus Ex. Coming this fall! Starring Shia LeBouf and Jessica Biel. Directed by Michael Bay. Rated R for restricted children under 17 not permitted without adult supervision."

This will be awesome!!! Thanks!! I've been talking of this since the game went out, I mean, my parents hate when I play games and shit but if they see how amazing the idea is... well I hope they don't screw it up :P

No, please don't make this. The medium's do not transfer at all. This will be awful, no matter who makes it. I never asked for this.

If someone like Ridley Scott or Christopher Nolan make it, it'll be superb. Human Revolution was a fantastic game with a brilliant storyline and lore to go with it. Getting the director of Blade Runner to do this movie would be incredible, especially as they share a hell lot of cyberpunk themes.

I just hope they make it as brutal and as mature as the game itself. After all, the story doesn't have light elements that make it so well done.

If they get Ridley Scott to direct it, then I would start paying attention. Hes the one that directed Blade Runner one of my all time favirote cyber punk films.

The selling point of the Deus Ex series is the choices that you make and the open-end outcome. Now, how do these people intend to achieve that?

I always thought this game would be turned into a movie. The storyline and characters were an easy fit for hollywood.

Though I'm not a fan of film adaptations of video games (I haven't seen a good one in fact), I just hope that this turns out well. Considering that majority of mainstream movies these days tend to focus more on emotion, story and character development instead of flashy special effects (gotta thank Christopher Nolan's influence for that matter), I think that there's still hope that this will "click" to audiences and critics alike.

So it's now DEx, Castlevania, Halo, Gears Of War, Assassin's Creed and God only knows what else. Seems to me there is still some room in developement's hell.

I remember there was an attempt to make a movie based on the first Deus Ex years ago. Hoping this turns out well.

Forget a movie, they should make a anime of the DX series.

That would be awsome!

loved DX:HR but I have no doubt this movie will suck. The film industry has no idea how to properly portray video games, let alone ones that deal with serious material.

So this is the going to be the only video game to movie adaptation that they don't screw up? Wateva.

 @adrian_cortez94

Excuse me, sweetie pie, but what movies have you been watching? 85% of the movies that come out nowadays are ANYTHING but emotion, story and character development. Have you not seen Battleship? Nothing but atrocious CGI and no substance. Please, point me in the right friggin direction because I wanna see the movies you're watching.

Hugz n kisses

solid_snake1461

@made_u_look Well, I know about that. My point is what make Deus Ex "feel" Deus Ex is the option that you make and how you affect the ending. So, if they want to make a Cyberpunk movie but can not replicate that "feeling", then they better off create something of their own rather than rely on the name Deus Ex to sell.

@samantha_sneez i don't know, but ever since the dark knight came out, most of the movies i watched have been more mature and story oriented. but hey, it's just my opinion. :) .and I'm hoping that this movie won't fuck things up.

@samantha_sneez You may have been being sarcastic but Shia LeBouf as JC Denton would be a horrible idea he is just so wrong for the part.

LOL I was going to say Uwe Boll, but I already abused his name for the Assassin's Creed video game to movie adaptation.
