Deus Ex: Human Revolution DLC priced, dated

Square Enix's Missing Link add-on for cyberpunk action adventure coming next week for $15, brings three to eight more hours of action/stealth.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a game that critics have pegged at delivering 20-plus hours of gameplay, is set to get even more content on October 18. Coming in at $15 on the PC and PlayStation 3, and 1,200 Microsoft points on the Xbox 360, Missing Link is set to fill in a three-day gap in protagonist Adam Jensen's adventure.

The mystery behind Adam Jensen's blackout will be revealed, for $15.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD

The Missing Link follows up on events that transpire during the full version of Deus Ex, in which Adam Jensen goes mysteriously AWOL for a three-day period. Square Enix describes this episode as a time when Jensen has lost his augmentation powers and must escape a freighter using only the abilities nature gave him.

The Missing Link introduces a handful of new characters and enemies that play into the game's storyline. Square Enix also played up the add-on's opportunity to rebuild Jensen's augmentations from scratch.

END SPOILERS

Missing Link is the first piece of paid downloadable content to be offered for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. For more on Dues Ex: Human Revolution, read the recap of the Game Developers Conference Online session and check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

@Mortilla Forgive me, but I am not as naive to really believe that at all, even if its coming from the devs themselves. Since when have devs been 100% credible? They can lie too you know. Rushing this game is only an excuse to put already developed DLC for more money. If you make a comparison to Rockstar's GTA 4 expansion episodes to this, you can see which game is the more complete game. Again Deus Ex: HR is an awesome game, but when you look back at the awesome early trailers and how it was truly going to shape up, you can't help but notice that Eidos and SE are tryin to grab as much extra money as possible from a good franchise that hasn't been in action for years.

Spoilers? They left out the part where Adam has a steamy sex scene with a woman that he meets; this explains how he is able to get over his old girlfriend Megan.

@mrboone01 Thanks great site, with real good prices and you can trade games, Deus Ex HR $37 , Batman A/City $42.I'll keep a eye on them, maybe they'l be 1st to discount Missing Link.

I was going to buy this game this week but this DLC news just convinced me to wait for a much better deal later for it.

@Mortilla Thats good that you support games , I do as well but I buy from the cheapest retailers. My main gripe is with greedy retailers in Aus who don't pass on the benefit of the high aus dollar to its customers.(you should read my blog). RE.... L.A Noire .The mostly likely story is that a bunch greedy or incompetent exec's screwed over the share holders and empolyees.I bet they all got their pay checks and bonuses. But in the end the choice is yours to buy full price , sale price or pass.

@Arch-Stanton - Honestly, I have no issues with spending a little bit more just for the developers who spend YEARS of hard work on a game. If you think games will become cheaper over time, then you're mistaken. Better visuals + Longer games = higher development cost. Look at Team Bondi. They spent a tremendous amount of money on making L.A. Noire. What happened? They couldn't cover development expenses, even though it sold pretty well. So Team Bondi shut down -- or will shut down. If a game is good, and it gives me days of entertainment, I would even go so far and say that $60 dollars for a game is pretty cheap; considering the reality behind game development. Having that said, 15 bucks for 3-4 maps is absolutely INSANE. There is a clear line between being cheap and being reasonable. --- @SolidTy - There are already reviews out there, who very much favor this DLC. PC Gamer & Joystiq have both published their own review(s). @Mortilla The corporate suits love the mindless cod addicts that you mention that will fork out $15 for some crapy over priced maps, and people like you, who'l pay extra for phoney over priced collectors editions.I hope you don't have a cabinet full Bradford Mint collectables. So I guess the suits are banking on D/ Ex players to do likewise. Wise Old Saying " A fool and his money will be soon departed"

15 bucks for 8 hours of adventure? that is much for an RPG. may be worth it, but i will wait until it is xbox live's deal of the week in a few months. heck, i am not done with deus ex now! i cant buy this and i am not done. so for you folks who gripe, thats the tip: IF YOU ARE NOT DONE WITH THE GAME, WHY BUY? that is like wearing a new pair of under when the ones you are wearing are still clean!

I made my decision on DLC some time ago. I'm not paying $10 for Dragon Age 2's two-to-three hour DLC adventures, so I'm not paying $15 for similar-timed Deus Ex DLC, either. Come back to me when you're 9 hours with a compelling story and new environment like Fallout: New Vegas' "Old World Blues."

@Arch-Stanton - Sure you can. You can also download an illegal copy of the game. It's very easy, however, it doesn't come close to the original. Personally, I never sell my games -- I collect them. As for the DLC, it's looking really, really good. PC Gamer: "It's rare for DLC to live up to a great game, rarer still for it to fix that game's biggest flaw." Joystiq: "The Missing Link could be the opportunity to experiment with Deus Ex in way that you couldn't in the main game" OXM: "as DLC episodes go, it's SOLID gold." Certainly sounds promising to me... And yeah, Gamespot should really make it more easier for the user.

*Spoiler alert.* *No, for real, spoilers.* I was wondering how they were going to do DLC. My character nuked the station and killed himself and all of the major NPCs at the end... it was gonna be hard to follow that up. Unless Jensen would be playable as a ghost - think of the stealth opportunities! *End spoilers.* Anyhow, it's a good game, not great, and I think I'll pass on this. People gotta cool it with the 'they cut it out of the main game!' crap, though. It's a really tired meme that is almost never true, IF ever. (Well, okay, it was true in Beautiful Katamari....)

Arch-Stanton
Arch-Stanton

@Mortilla I hope you did not buy it as a collectable item that you will sell in the future for a profit.I've never seen any collector edition game sell for more than it's original purchase price. I could upgrade my version to the Aug Ed by buying the Tactical Pack from Steam for $1.99,rip & burn the sounds files from the install files and download the extra artwork / comic. My point being you should try and get some value for money instead of getting ripped off by over priced retailers and phoney extras.( & over priced DLC) I'm glad you fixed your paragraph problem. "it's irrelevant & meaningless" It alway is.

Mortilla
Mortilla

@Arch-Stanton - The Augmented Edition will obviously be a bit more pricey, because it's basically the Collector's Edition without the figurine. I'm sure I could have gotten it through second hand, or some other way cheaper, but I really didn't need to. If you don't want to get it, then don't. It's easy as that. No need to cause a debate over it, because ultimately, it's irrelevant & meaningless.

@med12 "some content that was INTENTIONALLY removed to be released as a 'DLC' later" I think thats what they done with Red Faction Arm... Path To War DLC, the dialogue gives it away.(I guess Karma got to them as it was not a big hit)

$15 for a minor patch's worth of content when the whole game can be bought for 38$ right now? LOL. Pass.

KoolzKatz

@Frame_Dragger Ha ha, i dont need to go back and collect stuff if i dont feel like it. U missed my point, which was the concept of price and value these days and everyones obsession with game length. I used Limbo as an example of said game, and I ll play a great short game over a 20 slog anyday. I loved Deus Ex, i love that theres more content on the way and I will be buying because I dont obsess over length and price like others do

Sorry fellas. I love this game and haven't played it for the last time, but $15 for a three-hour trip reeks of testing the waters to see what they can get away with in pricing future DLC. Yeah, yeah. I know senior V.P.'s of marketing have gotta eat too and games don't make themselves, but I'd consider myself pretty naive if I didn't think the execs of this industry count on our gamer-junkie ways when they roll out sketchy pricing.

Mortilla
Mortilla

@Arch-Stanton - So, you got it for a decent price? Great. I paid about $65 for the Augemented Edition, and you don't see me whining about it, do you? If you're unable to get it -- due to economical difficulties -- then by all means, don't. Have to love the irony in people purchasing Call of Duty MAPS for 15 bucks, yet when it comes to actual worthy content, they whine about it. By the way, how do you create new sets of lines/paragraphs on here? I keep pressing enter, but to no avail. Anyone?

PumpkinBoogie

@NoLifeGamin, Well said. It's just as I said, too, it's all a matter of personal perspective. Just as there are those who wouldn't want to pay for this, there are equally as many who wouldn't mind. Everybody has their own take on what something is 'worth' to them.

noigel
noigel

No thank you. I played, the game, I enjoyed it (except the bosses, I just felt they were...patched in), I felt the story was... well, good enough, so I'm not going to download something that "for the sake of gaming" (my a$$) messes with the main story, rips off all your powers and makes you start over again. This DLC in particular just doesn't fit in... the approach is just too forced... so as far as I'm concerned (spoiler alert) Jensen spent 3 days sleeping in a container in that ship...

KoolzKatz
KoolzKatz

This whole concept of value and price is so ridiculous. For example I paid $15 for Limbo, i beat it in one sitting, should I complain that i didnt get enough gameplay for the money I spent playing one of the best downloadable games ever? Loved Deus Ex, looking forward to more content.

Arch-Stanton
Arch-Stanton

@Mortilla "Eidos? Greedy? Hell no" Hell Yes !!!. I paid $35 for the main game, and now I got to pay $15 for the DLC.Does not equal good value, i'l just wait for sale.

Is it going to be on Steam? If so, I'll wait till the price drops. I am pretty much done with DLC thanks to too many bad Dragon Age: Origins DLC's. Plus, all the other nickle and dime dlc's that have popped up in games like the Total War series and a lot of other games.

Rocker6

@SY_shoot Money is not the problem here, the content it will get you is.And here, you are asked too much money for too little content. For most Gamespot users, including me,I would say 15$ isnt a big deal. But if you waste it on wrong things,it is a big deal. For example, for 15$,I could get many great games on Steam, like Crysis,Stalker, etc, just to name a few. There are many more.

Mortilla

@datbush - They said that the single-player will be up to 4-5 hours long. Now, about Rage allegedly being 20 hours long. The Devs meant exactly what they meant with that... Except, according to Creative Director Tim Willits @ Rage, the story-line takes about 15 hours to beat. Obviously, it differs slightly person to person. But 15 hours is the 'general number'.

JamilAhmed1994
JamilAhmed1994

@datbush Eidos Montreal said that you can beat Deus Ex: Human Revolution in around 20 hours. I completed it after 33 hours.

@EmilSda They are not the same ppl.I know many ppl here on Gamespot who say they wont buy those map packs, and they dont buy them. Most CoD map packs come from ppl outside of Gamespot, who hear about CoD everywhere,on TV,random Internet ads,and even FOOD! Dont forget,Gamespot doesnt represent every gamer on planet,do you think most of those brainwahed CoD kids who scream on mics actually care about Gamespot and gaming in general? I met many users here who use their own head, who dont let hype control their minds,so your comment is mostly invalid,go blame masses of brainwashed audiences, not Gamespot users!

Mortilla

@WR_Platinum - This was planned from the beginning, I recon. They've already mentioned the stuff that they had to cut in order to fit the dead-line. And the 3 days of Jensen being AWOL was not one of them.

datbush
datbush

do you really think it will be as long as the devs say it will? they said rage was going to be 20 hours...finished with out rushing in 11, the fear 2 dlc was said to be 2-3 hours...finished in just over 1 again with out rushing. now i could be wrong but im will to bet it will be 2-4 not 3-8. I very rarely buy dlc and usualy just single player add ons but if it does live up to what they say, then i might pick it up.

Maybe this Christmas sale, Steam might make it 60-80% off, which I might alright with paying depending on the how good the dlc is

I almost never trade in games but with a $15 DLC coming (and I'm guessing this won't be the only DLC for this game), I'm definitely trading in this game and I'll put that money towards the ultimate/GOTY edition whenever it comes out.

WR_Platinum
WR_Platinum

I love Deus Ex, but $15 just for what happend in between those three day AWOL is a bit pricey. This is not an expansion, but more of a fill in the gap that should of been in the main game. And all of you if not, most of you know that this game was rushed to get out to the public, regardless that it looks nice and polished.

Wait a year and you can buy the game + DLCs with one cheap price. ;) Yes yes you have my permission to thumb this down as much as you like.

Mortilla

Eidos? Greedy? Hell no. This DLC is a big one, folks. It contains up to 5 hours of story-line. Yes, by just looking at the amount, it is pricey. But 15 dollars is actually quite reasonable -- looking at both the length & content. In the end of the day, people will always complain. This, however, is a must-have for all the Deus Ex: Human Rev. fans. I hope for more DLC's in the future. :)

Arch-Stanton
Arch-Stanton

If don't suffer from the "I want it now" syndrome, you'll get it cheaper if you wait for a sale.80 % of the DLC's I've bought, I,ve usually finished in about 4 hours and I do take my time to look around,so I can understand that most gamers hesitate at $15.

Brokenhope69

Definitely getting this. Given this is the slow period of the year for me, this will make a second playthrough even more awsome.

NoLifeGamin
NoLifeGamin

Get real people. If any of you actually paid attention to this website, you probably have seen the article about Skyrim being beaten in 2 hours. So just because something CAN be beaten in a short amount of time doesn't mean the actual content is that long. Who knows, this DLC can actually take you way longer than 8 hours to complete, whether or not you're rushing through(idk why you would, this game is amazing). But hey, your money isn't my money, you have the freedom to do whatever you want with it, just like how you have the freedom to do whatever you want while playing this game and taking your time.

Lol, people are complaining about this DLC is too expensive, and yet they're also spending 15$ for a crappy CoD map pack.

Thank all the sheep that purchased $15.00 crappy map packs for COD. They sent a clear message to all game companies, It's OK to rip off consumers and charge $15.00, $20.00, or even $30.00 for dlc. :(
