Destiny Trophies and Achievements Revealed; Get Ready to Kill a Lot of Enemies

Pew, pew.

Developer Bungie detailed 40 Achievements and Trophies for its upcoming shooter, Destiny, in its weekly update today. The full list involves a diverse array of different tasks, from completing missions certain ways to customizing your ship.

There are four main enemy types and three character classes in Destiny. Trophy and Achievement hunters will have to kill all of them many, many times to get all the rewards.

Some of the more memorable Achievements and Trophies include:

  • Triple Play -- Kill a Warlock, Hunter, and Warrior without dying in a single player vs. player match
  • Suited for War -- Get fully equipped with Legendary or Exotic weapons and armor.

Although most of the Trophies and Achievements are straightforward, there's some mystery with the Dragon Slayer accomplishment. To acquire this one, you must "kill a champion of the Dark." This could mean fighting a high-level enemy that comes from the Darkness, the most powerful opposing force in Destiny.

You can see the full list of achievements on Bungie's website.

Destiny launches for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 on September 9. We thought that the game looked promising when we got our hands on the alpha build earlier this month.

Do you still try to get as many trophies/achievements as possible (like the guy who got 1,000,000 Gamerscore), or do you ignore the list entirely and just play naturally?

Multiplayer trophy/achievement SUCKS because in the end when they close down the server you can't do crap. That is why developer should stick to offline trophy/achievement. Also not to mention the server connectivity problems, when playing you'll get dc or not being able to start a match. One more thing to add, some game is region lock, so you won't be able to find a match at all which means no multiplayer trophy/achievement for you.

One thing I hate about Bungie are their MP achievements...they always make them to skill based that not everyone can do.

Between my PS4, PS3, and my Vita,  I have so many 0%-5% on my trophy list that I don't even care anymore.  I blame PS+

When the title stated, "Get Ready to Kill a Lot of Enemies", I was thinking in the thousands at the very least. I guess that is my MMO mindset kicking in.

I don't think I have ever attempted to get an achievement in a game. I do however like to try and get 100% completion on the games I like the most (Assassins Creed series, Any Rockstar Game).

I have become a bit of a trophy whore, but not to the point where I'd be looking to pick up a bad game if it meant an easy platinum. I don't mind having to work for them, but it's a bit trivial when you have to perform the same actions in different circumstances in order to get a few trophies, like a couple of these appear to be.

I can honestly say I have never looked at achievements in a game and I don't find them enticing or rewarding at all. The only time I even think about them is when I get a pop-up in the middle of a game saying I've unlocked some achievement, and I find that distracting and slightly annoying (especially on Minecraft - I'm always uninstalling and reinstalling that game for updates and mods, and I must have "got wood" a thousand times already.)

I'm wondering if this is something to do with the fact that I don't play Xbox Live. It seems like Microsoft were pretty successful in getting people interested in achievements with the public gamerscore.

PS4 is the lead platform for the game, but MSspot still lists Xbox first :)

Ok...I gotta admit I take sneak peak at the achievements before I start playing. :)

As long as there aren't too many online multiplayer achievements I'm totally fine. I don't mind grinding for achievements or simply playing the game but most of the multiplayer achievements are more luck than anything.

Still haven't got that 10 player kill one from Halo 3 for this reason. Or the kill two people on a ghost using the laser thing. You have to be in the right match with the right people and have them set up in exactly the right way that might happen once every month if you play a lot. Pointless.

I got the one where you have to kill someone with a mongoose in my first match on Halo 3 by complete coincidence. I've never been able to do it again since.

they need to sell more than 10 million + unit to generate back money that they spend on creating this game, so far nothign special :)

So looking forward to this game! Can't wait to tackle these trophies.

I really only go after trophies if either I enjoy the game a lot, if I buy a HD rerelease or if it is from a series I really like. At this point only a few managed to get an impressive amount of trophies / achievements and at this time it is pretty much impossible to ever catch on to them

Wait, there is killing in this game? Now my mom won't let me play it!

Attempting all of the achievements in a game is usually done after I've completed the SP part of the game as far as I either can or choose to.

I used to play bad games for the gamerscore, but I've slowed down since then and try for ones that help me play the game in ways I might not have otherwise i.e. stealthy achievements.

Not surprised playing the alpha gave players a lot of hints towards trophies so seeing this info makes sense really.

@gunnmetal  The game has Halo game mechanics such as running and jumping, with borderlands hit indicators and damage meters  in a Star Wars like universe.  All of which is very cool.

timmzy27
timmzy27

@gunnmetal It is often described as Halo meets Borderlands with a Star Wars theme, which having played the Alpha I would with that description.

The-Neon-Seal

@DEATH775 They also particularly suck in Bungie games because you need a ton of friends who all play the same game to get some of them. If they were multiplayer achievements/trophies you could get solo it wouldn't be so bad.

@Lord_Sesshy Achievment: Something accomplished successfully, especially by means of exertion, skill, practice, or perseverance

So what you're asking for are door prizes, handed out to everyone who picks up the game and plays it.  Those aren't achievments!  Get good, and/or stop whining about difficult "achievements" because that's what makes them worth earning...  though I pretty much ignore them, they are meant to be something you can brag about or show off... not something EVERYONE can easily attain.

Nightflash28
Nightflash28

@Lord_Sesshy But that's exactly what achievements should be. What's the point if they just get handed out to you? You didn't achieve crap. Work for those thingies.

@gregbmil True that! Ofc, my 2% in Demon's souls is also PS+ fault, not mine (fcking mindflayers...)

@TheEternalGamer I was thinking "oh, great, get encouraged to grind for an achievement, when there is no reason to grind, like in an MMO". I guess I was wrong in that assumption, but it doesn't make me more interested in this game. It still seems too much like a competitive MP game and I never play to compete or challenge myself, I just want to visit another world, do some quests or kill every freakin' thing I see with wild abandon. The usual stuff.

Hurvl

@jellyman68 I know playing games can be arousing, but getting wood? There must have been lots of traffic in your pants if you got wood a thousand times already :P.

Devils-DIVISION

@jellyman68 I look at trophies/achievements as a kind of side mission. It adds replay value for me and some of them are fun to hunt--though sometimes I wonder why I even bother with the frustrating trophies.

Devils-DIVISION

@Dannystaples14 Absolutely loath multiplayer trophies/achievements! One that comes to mind is Assassin's Creed with their tack-on multiplayer, which I've never played. As soon as I saw "Reach Level 60 in MP" I straight away ignored it.

Carpetfluff

@Dannystaples14 The worst multiplayer achievements are the ones where you end up in match after match with people doing things they wouldn't in normal play over and over just to get them.

@wexorian I agree with you. It looks great, but I keep getting Halo mixed with Borderlands. Also. all the buzz words they use has actually done nothing for me. This is Bungie, so it might turn out great.

I really hope there are more mystery trophies though. Kind of how Rockstar does it with their games.

Carpetfluff

@BlackBaldwin Yup, sounds like a lot of these will just come organically just by playing, unless you actively avoid precision (head) shots.

hastati4
hastati4

@nl_skipper While I do agree with you that they should be challenging and not handouts, the ones that bug me are trophies/achievements that rely on some form of luck in a MP match, or requiring the player to do something that they would never attempt to do otherwise.

For example, in BF3 I think there was an achievement where you needed to get a kill with a jet, tank and assault rifle in one life. This then requires the player to abandon powerful vehicles for the sake of a trophy. Presumably you'd start in the jet, get a kill, bail, get an assault rifle kill, and then try to find an unoccupied tank. Personally, I would never bail out of the jet, as they are in limited supply and extremely powerful in the right hands.

Long story short, I agree it's moronic to just hand these things out, but MP achievements are often quite ridiculous in terms of their actual content.

wexorian
wexorian

@Shango4 @wexorian you mean appeal to everybody else, "COD" model :)

Devils-DIVISION

@donjuancorleone

Yes! But not those impossible one's that you'd never know about unless you had to look 'em up. I like unlocking hidden trophies on my own.

Karlinel

@hastati4 @nl_skipper Achievements are vanity badges, don't affect your gameplay experience, so it's reasonable that they get as ridiculous as devs can imagine.

Hurvl

@TacticaI @Hurvl @TheEternalGamer I might be wrong, but my current view of the game is that it's not SP-y enough, or "don't have to care what other people are doing"-ish. We don't seem Destined to like each other, this game and I.

pezzott1
pezzott1

@wexorian Actually... Battlefield does more to appeal to everyone than COD does. (Large maps, small maps, infantry only, air only, tanks only, CQC, team deathmatch, squad deathmatch, domination, capure the flag... etc)

COD has always been the same ol sh!t and thats their problem.

;)

TacticaI

@Hurvl @TacticaI You should invest some time in the beta. I played mostly with a friend, but we're definitely optimistic about the exploration when the full game is released.
