Activision is suggesting that two of its flagship titles, Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, have become the best-selling console games in the US this year.
Based on retail sales data of console games alone, for the eleven months between January and November, Activision claims that Advanced Warfare sold better than any other title, while Destiny follows in second.
The estimation from Activision does not take into account sales data from December, nor does it measure digital downloads or PC sales. Destiny and Advanced Warfare were two of the few games that were released on both last-gen and next-gen consoles, giving both an installed-base advantage.
However, Activision says Advanced Warfare was also the individual best-seller on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
The publisher has not stated whether Advanced Warfare sales have outperformed its previous entrants in the Call of Duty series, such as Black Ops or Modern Warfare. Some analysts believe the series is past its peak.
With regards to its critical response, Advanced Warfare has performed well. GameSpot's Advanced Warfare Review was particularly positive, praising its "deluge of action-film bravado."
