Atari has released new information on the PlayStation 2 version of Deer Hunter that was announced last month. The game, which is currently in development at Coresoft, will let you hunt in a variety of locations, including Montana, British Columbia, Maine, Idaho, Mexico, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Colorado. In addition to four different varieties of deer, animals liable to find themselves staring at the dangerous end of your chosen weapon will include mountain lions, goats, pronghorn, big-horn sheep, moose, elk, and bears of the black, brown, and grizzly varieties. Smaller in-game animals will include raccoons, turkeys, wolves, and squirrels.

As we've reported previously, the game will feature a number of multiplayer options, including a split-screen cooperative mode and online play for up to eight players in tournament mode. If you're playing solo, you'll be able to opt for a daily hunt or track your progress over multiple hunting seasons, during which time the deer will grow from fawns, to spike bucks, to world-class trophies. The game will also feature a number of mission-based hunts to unlock new areas, although specific details on what these missions might entail aren't available at this time.

Deer Hunter will also allow you to take control of a number of different off-road vehicles, with those confirmed to date including ATVs, snowmobiles, and boats. For more information on the PS2 version of Deer Hunter, which is scheduled for release on October 7, check out our previous coverage of the game.
