Two-dimensional tank games have been around since the nascent days of IBM's DOS operating system, and Snowblind Studios will be updating the classic gameplay with Death Tank for the Xbox Live Arcade. The action game will be available through the Xbox 360's online storefront this week for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15).

True to its name, Death Tank offers action-oriented combat in which up to eight tanks enter a last-one-standing scrum. Players are afforded a variety of different tank types and weapon loadouts, and the game accommodates both single-player and online multiplayer modes. The downloadable game also features eight different destructible environments in which terra firma deforms as matches progress.

Death Tank will be accompanied by a free demo when it launches later this week. Snowblind didn't lay out the specifics of what the sampler will entail, though it did say that online multiplayer will be included with the trial.
